Roach wants Pacquiao to shut Marquez up

By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s) has struggled badly in two previous fights with Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KO’s), appearing to lose both of them in the minds of many boxing fans, including this writer. Now, Marquez is old, nearing 40, and fighting out of his weight class in his upcoming November 12th fight against Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It seems pretty ludicrous, like saying that just because Pacquiao beat an old and past his prime Shane Mosley and Oscar De La Hoya that it translated into Pacquiao being better than those guys in their primes. You can’t say that because there’s no way of knowing how Pacquiao would have stacked up against them. We already know how Marquez did against Pacquiao while he was still young and he appeared to beat him twice. Now the results will be different, of course, with Marquez almost 40 years old and clearly on the downside of his career. How Roach can get something from a win over Marquez at this point is unclear.
“It’s a fight I want,” Roach said in an article at ESPN en espanol. “It’s the one were asking for cause we want to shut them up and to prove they never get robbed.”
Things are much different now than they were three years ago. Marquez is a lot older, not the same fighter and isn’t a welterweight. Pacquiao isn’t going to be meeting Marquez at his weight or even half way. The fight is basically taking place at welterweight and Marquez has already proved that he can’t fight at this weight. It’s sad that Roach is going to try and crow after this fight and use it as basis for saying that Pacquiao was better than Marquez all along when the variables have completely changed in this fight compared to the last two. Marquez is a lot older and nearing the very end of his career, as Mosley was in his recent fight with Pacquiao, and he’s not a welterweight.

Oh please, I do not want to hear anymore about Martinez. All he wants is for Floyd and/or Manny to come up and fight him but he would not even fight guys at 160. At least Manny and Floyd went up and fought bigger guys, he wants to make a name like Hopkins by beating up on smaller guys. Give me a break.
I believe Martinez is a decent fighter but I cannot see this being a fair fight because he is too big. If they drag him down to 147 he will be too weak. If he drags them up to 160 he will have too much strength and size.
If they meet at catchweight one side will claim he was at a disadvantage, bloated or drained. I think that they both beat him at catchweight because they are special. I think Floyd has lost some heart and cerdibility lately but he is special too. Let Martinez clean up 160 and then challenge himself at 168. If he does that i would call him #11 P4P. he does not have to beat them to get it. E.G. If Donaire beats up all the top guys in his range very easily he could be seen as #1 P4P.

I have to say I admire your love for Pacquiao. I can also tell that all of you are young and naive when it come to boxing. If you never boxes before at least learn about the history. There were way too many great fighter before Pacquiao. Pacquiao would have never beaten Sugar Ray Robinson or Roberto Duran. Please, before you start to retaliate at least read the history about these two great all times boxers. I only named to great warriors but there are many more. Lets give credit to Pacquiao for some of his acheivements. But lets be real when the last time fought against a fighter on a winning streak? How can people give him credit for winning the jr middleweight tittle? Margarito was a welterweight who was knock out by Mosley, suspended for a year and fought one time against a nobody. How did he manage to fight for the tittle against Pacquiao. I tell how Bob Arum, his money and the boxing organization. How come Pacquiao did fight for the title against one of the ranked jr middleweights? I have to tell you Pacquiao is an exacting boxer but the only reason he look great is because Bob Arum careful selection of opponents. Old and shot fighters. Are you guys following Bernard Hopkins career? Are you aware of his achievements. Lets talk about his lates achievement outboxing a good fighter half his aged. Why come down in weight from where he was? Marquez needs to prove that he is the better man against Pacquiao coz he is the challenger. Pacquiao doesn’t need to fight Marquez, he beat him twice already considering on their first fight that was a draw was a mistake of one judge. When Manny Pacquiao was trying to convince America somehow that the Mosley was going to be any good at all, he came to the White House to visit me. I told him to not fight Shane because Floyd already exposed Shane’s weaknesses and to fight some young guys that have actually won a fight in years. I told him that Americans are tired of him fighting old, shot, past there prime fighters. I am now going to have to take away his visa to work in the U.S….Now he is fighting yet another old guy. I am going to have to hold a press conference to tell fellow Americans to not watch this fight. It would have been better years ago and NOT at a catchweight.

If Manny concentrated 100% of his time to boxing he would be incredible. He now spends more time on his political career than he does on boxing. He spends a lot of his time doing charity work and also a lot of his time goes to his singing career. If he just focused on boxing there would be no one and I mean no one that would go close to him.

Im tired of hearing pacquiao only fight old and drain fighters. If that the case can you name a worthy opponent who is not old and drain weight, of course beside mayweather.
