Khan working with Ariza again

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan and his former strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza appear to have patched up their differences and are once again working together. Khan said this on his twitter page: “Me and Alex Ariza are working together. We continue the work on Monday 6AM start.” The two had a falling out over payment issues in the past. Khan then hired a new trainer who helped him get ready for Khan’s fight with Paul McCloskey in April.

However, Khan looked exhausted by the 6th round in that fight and looked nothing like the fighter that had gone 12 hard rounds with Marcos Maidana last December in a fight of the year. With Ariza, it’s going to be interesting to see if Khan can get back to where he was before the Ariza break-up with his stamina.

Khan may need Ariza more than ever, especially if he takes on a good fighter like Zab Judah next. Khan got his easy fight against McCloskey, but now he really has to start stepping it up and keeping it there if he wants to become a star in the sport. Boxing fans have already see Khan take a bunch of weak and old guys since his 1st round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott in 2008, and they want to see Khan face solid guys from now on. Judah would be a good first step for Khan to show that he means business and is serious about trying to become a star in the U.S.
