DeGale wants Magee or Anderson for next fight

By Scott Gilfoid: Since George Groves isn’t interested in fighting James DeGale (10-1, 8 KOs) right now, DeGale is looking to go after two decent names in Brian Magee (34-4-1, 24 KO’s) and Kenny Anderson (12-1, 8 KO’s) for his next fight in September. DeGale is coming off a controversial 12 round majority decision loss to Groves from last week and he wants to get back in the ring soon to continue building towards a title fight.

Magee, 35, would be the much better option compared to Anderson, because Magee is a ranked fighter in the super middleweight division and is coming off a 10th round TKO loss to Lucian Bute in his last fight last March. If DeGale was to pick Anderson, DeGale would be getting one of Groves’ leftovers, as Anderson was stopped in the 6th round last November by Groves.

It wouldn’t be interesting to see DeGale going over ground that was already explored by Groves. The only thing good about DeGale facing Anderson would be to see if DeGale could do a better job in beating Anderson compared to how Groves fought him. Groves was dropped in the fight by Anderson and hit an awful lot.

In an article by frankwarren.tv, DeGale said “It was a close fight, a controversial fight, and I thought I won it… I don’t think he wants a rematch, because he knows what will happen. If I started faster I’d have probably had him (knocked) out…I want an American name that someone knows, or Brian Magee who fought for a world title and is European champion, or Kenny Anderson.”

I’d prefer that DeGale fight neither of these guys because it’s not interesting to see DeGale fighting guys that are coming off of a loss. I’d prefer to see DeGale take on someone like Peter Quillin, Kelly Pavlik, Allan Green or Aaron Pryor Jr. for his next fight. Those guys would give him some rounds and help DeGale grow as a fighter.

    Sutherland was irish not british.
Magee might be too early for degale, anderson would be a good comeback for him.
This fight would also be allowing anderson a chance to prove himself.

Groves doesn’t see the point in fighting Degale as he’s already beaten him twice. It’s not a best of 5 contest!!!

I’m hoping this loss to groves serves as a lesson to James DeGale a loss can be a good thing to bring some one back down to earth, he should tone the insults down and get on with he’s boxing and let he’s obvious talent shine through, I think Brian McGee wood be a great name on James cv, good luck to George and James wood love to see the pair fight for the vacated WBC title wen Carl froch moves up to light heavy

Magee’s a good test for Fliunky but if James hasn’t dumped trainer Jim McDonnell by then it could go either way. McDonnell is a bit of a joke let’s face it. No way should a guy like that be training an Olympic gold medalist and hot prospect. No wonder Degale performed poorly against the Saint, McDonnell is clearly no motivating force. And Adam Booth had the tactics to beat Jimbo anyway. What is Defail thinking? Get rid of him James. Fast. Kenny Anderson would be an interesting fight, but it was the old version of George Groves who fought him last time, so even if Flunky beats Anderson inside one round it wouldn’t tell us much about how Groves and Degale compare; if the Saint fought Kenny tomorrow it would be a different fight to the first one. I wonder if McDonnell is quivering at the prospect of losing his meal ticket. Does Flunky have the mental toughness to tell Jim that it’s bye bye? Possibly not. What a comedy we’re witnessing.

It all depends on who you want to see smash another hype job in Quillin.

  • Hand Punch says:

Degale-Quillin, Groves-Magee or the other way around, these are good matchups on paper.

groves isnt interested in fighting losers and im not interested in watching or reading about them. not when they talk them selfs up the way degale does maybe now he will shut his big fat chunky mouth and get down to work he could be great but he needs to learn to have a bit more respect for his fellow man. thats why everyone boos him when he comes to the ring he is a p***k and groves had his number

  • 4-1 says:

got to agree with you but i wanna see him get beat again

  • steve says:
