By Scott Gilfoid: We’re less than a month away from the Super Six semifinal tournament fight between the talented WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) and his struggling opponent Arthur Abraham (32-2, 26 KO’s) as they fighting it out at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The loser of this fight has to go home and lick his wounds to try and figure out what he’ll be doing with his career.

The winner of the fight will move on to the Super Six tourney final to await the winner of the June 4th bout between WBC super middleweight champ Carl Froch and Glen Johnson. That fight is going to be a brawl between two sluggers. Ward will be showing his master skills against whoever crawls out of that fight. The winner of that fight is going to be badly depleted and easy pickings for Ward to clean up on and easily.

As for Abraham-Ward, Abraham doesn’t much of a chance here. He’s a one punch at a time fighter that can no longer throw combinations for more than a handful of seconds in each round without gassing out. He’s good if you’ve got a weak chin, poor defense or if you choose slug with him. But if you’ve got talent like Ward and Andre Dirrell, Abraham is as harmless as a kitten. He’s like a Ferrari on a jam packed freeway. He’s got the power under the hood but he can’t use against the superior talents in the Super Six like Dirrell and Ward.

It’s going to be interesting to see Abraham giving it his best shot. He doesn’t want to lose and will be going all out in this fight to keep from losing his third straight fight. Abraham realizes that if he can somehow pull off a huge upset, he’ll be right back in the thick of things with his past defeats almost forgotten. Even if he were to turn around and lose in the finals of the Super Six, his win over Ward would be a big enough feather in his cap that Abraham could go back to Germany a minor hero for having accomplished that task.

Abraham is probably the only guy left with any chance of beating Ward. Unfortunately, Abraham only has a puncher’s chance in this fight and can’t win other than by knocking Ward out cold. He won’t, believe me. I see this as a shut-out 12 round unanimous decision win for Ward as he cruises into the finals in style.
