Roger Mayweather thinks Cotto would be a good tune-up for Floyd

By Chris Williams: Roger Mayweather, the trainer and uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr., thinks that Miguel Cotto would be a good tune-up for Floyd as he gets ready for a bout against Manny Pacquiao. Roger figures that Floyd needs at least a couple of tune-up bouts before his mega fight against Pacquiao. One of those tune-ups would be against Cotto if his promoter Bob Arum allowed him to get the fight with Mayweather.
Speaking with the examiner.com, Roger says “He [Floyd] could fight Cotto. He could fight a whole bunch of guys.” Cotto would be about as easy as the rest of them. It wouldn’t be a tough fight because Cotto is vulnerable and Mayweather’s speed and boxing ability would be too much for him. Roger say “He [Floyd] can get a couple of tune-ups fights and fight Pacquiao. He whips Pacquiao’s a** and he don’t got to prove nothing else.”
That’s true. Once Mayweather beats Pacquiao, there’s no other opponents out there for Mayweather to beat. He would have already fought Pacquiao last year if Pacquiao had been willing to agree to the random blood testing that Mayweather wanted. Mayweather wanted testing to stop a minimum of two weeks before the fight, whereas Pacquiao wanted at least three weeks. I suppose Pacquiao must of thought it would be easy to put together a fight with Mayweather at a later date. He must be kicking himself now for not agreeing to the textbook version of random blood testing so that the fight could be made last year.

Just recently Bernard Hopkins (Golden Boy Promotion stooge) was asked to take a blood test. Just a blood test, not Olympic style test or random. His response was he will only take whatever governing athletic commission requires. Hypocrits! And you still ask what right does a figher have to make such a demand? Serious?

If Floyd fights Miguel Angel Cotto, he can beat him as bad or worse than Manny did. And Cotto will not be able to hit Floyd as much and as hard as he did Pac. One thing’s for sure, those who said Pac fights Floyd leftovers can’t say the same anymore.
It will be a good fight. Cotto is a very good pressure fighter and Floyd always had problems with pressure fighters. But I think it’s the other way around. He is doing what Pacquiao has done. But I don’t think he can outdo Pacquiao in this area. He will just be contented in a points decision against Cotto. But I just have some doubts he ever will fight Cotto…They must meant the other Cotto!

Having an undefeated record is not an indication of greatness. Just look at the long list of the greatest champions in history who have losses on their records, such as Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Pacquiao, Hatton and numerous others. Having an O on your record may only indicated that a given figher has managed to dodge the best fighters when they were on their prime. It is univerally agreed that Ali and Tyson are two of the finest, but what they had in common is their desire to fight the very best in their prime. They were willing to test themselves and put all the marbles on the table to gamble everything by fighting the best, something like Ricky Hatton was famous for.
I think they have all the right to ask for rbt i ive seen all of all of pacs fights over the last 6 years and to struggle in and lose in the first fight with eric then fight him at a catch and look sluggish then jmm still couldnt knock him out or hurt him then and agian looked sluggish with stamina issues but all of a sudden u move up in weight gaining stamina and power brutalizing the welterweights when just a year ago or so u could not knock out a lightweight and i mean big cotto,del,marg. Imagine the arrogance. Cotto as a tune up fight? That is an absurd statement when you think that Ricky Hatton was ahead until round 7 on points against Mayweather and Joe Cortez. And it can be said that Cotto and Hatton are comparable champions.
I think that Cotto would knock out Mayweather in this so called tune up fight. Cotto does not turn down any fight against any top fighter.

All the mayweathers do is talk smack. All talk and have nothing to back up what they say. One thing I hate about them is they think too much statistically. If Floyd ever talks about an opponent he will look at theyre record and say “this guy was beaten already” and compare it to his zero loses that he will protect forever. Floyd is a fighter and he should know that anything could happen in the ring against an opponent. Floyd will never fight cotto and we will never see floyd fight more than twice a year, so if he wants these tuneup fights, the fight with manny would not happen until 1-2 years maybe unless Floyd decides to retire again. If Floyd does choose to come back which I highly doubt, he will most likely face light welter weights for tuneups. At this point all this talking from them is trying to keep mayweather still relevant in boxing. Floyd has to understand that he is replacable and though he claims he is the best, not fighting manny is what he will be most remembered by.

We all know how Bob’s judges scored the fight, that is old news that we do not need to look up. Public opinion is what really counts in boxing. I was at the first Pac/Marquez fight at the MGM and most if not all fans thought that Marquez got robbed. I know, I know the knock downs. Juan clearly out boxed Manny the rest of the fight easy and won the fight! That is why Pacquiao has stayed away from great boxers as of late and fought these brawling statue types because they are easy to hit.
Floyd wins 12 solids rounds against the slow and stamina issue Cotto. Cotto can’t out box Floyd to win a couple of early rounds and in the late rounds he would get tire and get eaten alive by Floyd superior speed and technical abilities. It would be ugly.

Anybody Pac has fought from 2008 on would be a tune up for Floyd at this point. Clottey is a Top Rank never has been. Cotto was destroyed well before Pac ever got in the ring with him (at a catchweight for a WW title) and Margarito was exposed for having no power once he was busted for using plaster. Plus he was destroyed by Mosley 2 years ago (well before Pac got in the ring with him at a catchweight for a vacant JMW title).
