Robert Garcia believes Ortiz can knock Berto out if he doesn’t quit first
By Jason Kim: Trainer Robert Garcia is giving light welterweight knockout artist Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KO’s) a punchers’ chance of beating WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Machintucket, Connecticut. Although Garcia is giving Ortiz a chance in this fight, he’s less than confident that the 24-year-old Ortiz can pull off the upset.
Speaking with examiner.com, Garcia said “Victor, he’s got a puncher’s chance but Berto is a good, solid world champion. If Victor doesn’t quit, quit like he did against Maidana and several times in the amateurs when he dropped his hands and gave up. Well, then he has that puncher’s chance. We’ll see which Victor shows up. Will it be the Victor who gave up in those fights?”
Ortiz can be very dangerous when he’s fighting with confidence and aggression. However, as we saw in the Maidana and Peterson fights, Ortiz seems to go to pieces mentally when he meets some adversity and starts getting hit hard. Berto has a real advantage in this fight because he’s going to be looking to make Ortiz quit by putting his punches together early in the fight and hitting him with some hard shots like the way Maidana was doing with him in 2009.

I WANT 2 C A BATTLE IN THE RING,MAN I CANT WAIT 4 THIS FIGHT!!
@John
When was the last time you were in a boxing ring fighting?
If not, don’t come here questioning Ortiz heart. It takes a tough guy to be in the boxing profession and get as far as Ortiz has gotten.
el boricua:..even if ortiz didn’t say anything like you say about the wrong words, his actions speak for themselves
Any fighter who can hit hard always has a puncher’s chance. That’s old news. I think Berto had a good learning experience in his fight with Collazo who is capable of giving anyone a hard time. I also thought Berto was being nursed along but over his last couple of fights I’ve changed my view. He’s good and I think Ortiz is gonna find that out real soon. I expect Berto to beat Ortiz readily and easy. But he still won’t get the credit he deserves.
Hope Ortiz pulls it off, Berto, doesnt float my boat at all, bit of a wasted talent, and needs to step up fast or get left behind.
lee
Ortiz!!
Everybody is bashing Ortiz as a quitter but he is not. It’s sad that GBP is giving up on him or so I think.
The kid used the wrong words to describe his loss to to Maidana everybody jumped on him.
Come on Victor bring it on. You can do it !!!!! Ortiz in 7 by KO
Garcia has it about right.possible, but does not sound too confident ,other than he could have a chance.
berto gona be too fast…quitter will fade in the last rounds..
The problem I have with his trainer saying that is, if that’s your fighter, shouldn’t you know where the guy is mentally? Does not sound confident in his product. Berto in 7, but Ortiz won’t quit, he will be forced to quit.
well said
first is heart
skill is second
