Judah vs. Juan Manuel Marquez a possibility for July

By Chris Williams: IBF light welterweight champion Zab Judah (41-6, 28 KO’s) has reportedly started negotiations with lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KO’s) for a bout that will be taking place in July at light welterweight. It will be the 33-year-old Judah’s first defense of his International Boxing Federation title that he capture last March with a 7th round TKO over South African Kaizer Mabuza.

Judah has been eyeing a fight with Marquez ever since Judah won the IBF title, and it looks like he may finally be getting his wish to fight Marquez. However, there may be some competition for Marquez because the recently beaten Erik Morales is still interested in fighting Marquez.

No doubt Morales didn’t help himself by losig his fight last weekend against Marcos Maidana, but it was an impressive enough performance by Morales to make a case that he should have won the fight. Indeed, many boxing fans felt that at the very least Morales should have been given a draw. That’s pretty impressive given that he was fighting what many boxing fans feel is the biggest puncher in the light welterweight division in Maidana.

If Marquez does fight Judah, it would likely only be to capture his IBF paper title so that Marquez could win a 4th world title. That would be the only real benefit to fighting Judah, because Morales would seem to be the bigger fight for Marquez compared to Judah, who doesn’t have much of a fanbase due to his inactivity and many losses in the past five years.

  • wtf_isgoinon says:

marquez should wait for pacquiao instead of fighting judah. this is his big chance to get revenge against pacquiao.

Arum indicates that marquez is the next big money-generation bout for pacquiao. Who else?

  • sropium says:

I hope they fight in the prudential center in jersey so I could get cheap tickets to watch these washed up guys fight .lol

Marquez will not let Zab rest, and most likely stop him late.

Marquez Vs Maidana ??? Talk about a war. Morales eye got pinched shut after one good shot. Morales time has passed. Let the new guys get some shine.

Judah and JMM is a great fight they fought everybody put in front of them win lose or draw… I give Judah the edge tho. JMM has problems with southpaws or crafty fighters. i.e. Floyd and Manny

  • Yup says:

I wanna see Marquez vs Roberto Guerrero!

    Guerrero aint no joke!!!!!

  • Anonymous says:

i will watch it just to prove my point judah is fairly washed up.he will get KOD.

  • Power VCT says:

Judah has a great shot of winning! Both are older and much wiser! Judah has the better skills and JMM has the determination! Too close to call here!

  • BIGMOFF says:

judah will loose, probably by k.o in the later rounds! the ibf was the easiest option for judah and if he wnts to keep it he needs to fight bumbs! end off

  • the professor says:

This is for all the Zab haters out there. Zab vs JMM would be a great fight to see on HBO or Showtime. Both fighters are Warriors and they both fought the best in the world. So a fight should happen between these two. Zab vs JMM is a MUST.

  • PLAYER says:

SEAN, You still think Marquez can match PAC’s Power and speed, if your gauge is the past fight, you don’t know boxing, you’re absolutely wrong, do you think Marquez is better than Cotto, Clothey, Hatton and Margarito. Or even Shane Mosley. And do you
think PAC’s style is the same as before ??? You’re dreaming, or I may agree on an upset and pure lucky punch. This should be the pure analysis.

  • sean says:

The Paq fans screamed for him to fight someone in a heavier class to prove he can compete. What’s the problem with the fight?

  • Gamboap4pbest!!! says:

Bad fight!! JMM Vs Amir Kahn at catchweight!!!!!!

  • voz says:

it will be a boring fight marquez vs judah or vs morales. they all need retirement. they are old like shane. better sleep and jack off

  • vince vegas says:

I would like to see JMM / Judah & a rematch between Morales / Maidana.

The winners meet each other. My bet is it would end up JMM VS Morales, with JMM coming out on top.

  • Isaak says:

Marquez is vulnerable to southpaws with fast hands.Chris John,Manny Paquiao beat Marquez. And Floyd Mayweather and Michael Katsidis both dropped Marquez with a left hook as Marquez was throwing his right hand.Zab Judah has a good chance of beating Marquez,And Marquez is avoiding his mandatory challenger Robert Guerrero who is also a southpaw.

  • Caribbean Cool says:

Zab Be Careful What You Wish For Because You Might Get It! And I Don’t Know Why Marquez Wanna Waste His Time Fighting Judah I Would Love To See Him Fight Marcos Maidana That’s A Better Matchup For Him That Fight Makes More Sense And Alot More Pay Per View Buys!

  • Bernie8306 says:

    Why does everybody want marquez…

  • kingflipp says:

judah gets schooled by marquez, i cant stand fighters who believe that they can reach a level that other fighters can, i much rather see katsidis and judah, and again judah would get dropped.

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

JUDAH DONT DESERVE MARQUEZ BUT THEN AGAIN IF THEY FIGHT I HOPE MARQUEZ PUTS HIM OUT OF HIS MISERY.
