Hatton offered comeback against Erik Morales?!

By Lee Elford: Ricky Hatton has reportedly been offered the chance of making a sensational u-turn with his retirement plans by taking on Mexican tough guy Eric Morales. In an article by Ed Sheeran in Sunday’s ‘News of the World’ UK paper, it is claimed Oscar de la Hoya offered the popular Manchester fighter this mouth watering head to head last Thursday evening (14/4/11). Hatton’s Lawyer was also present at this ‘meeting’ and is quoted as confirming this offer has been made, and the ball is now in the Hitman’s court.

A Hatton – Morales fight would potentially sell over a million in PPV sales worldwide and would no doubt be a sell out within days at its allotted arena. Mexican fireball Morales showed the entire boxing world that wear and tear just makes you tougher in his incredible fight against Marcos Maidana recently, falling agonizingly short in a decision which would have defied boxing logic. Ricky Hatton has been dismissed in general for being a ‘shot’ fighter who’s diet and leisure time outside of training has numbed his sharpness and punch resistance. It is feasible that Hatton could well be inspired and motivated by the Mexicans recent performance, knowing that Morales has also fought 58 fights (12 more than the younger Mancunian) and undoubtedly several more all out wars than Hatton.

Ricky Hatton is a confidence fighter, not a beaten fighter. To let down his masses of fans takes more of a toll on him than losing a fight. I believe a decent coaching staff and a training camp without the media circus which surrounds him could well refresh the Hitman, who recently claimed he is finished with fighting, into getting some belief back. Could this be the perfect fight against his Mexican ‘mirror’ to prove to himself and his fans he still has it in the locker?

U kidding morales will woop his ass he should of drawd wit madaina if not the win but hatton is done for good he way outa shape plus he suks

  • BLUE DOG says:

SURE, LET THE WBC PUT HIS LIGHT WELTER DIAMONDBELT, THEN MORALES WOULD KO HATTON INTO RETIREMENT FOR GOOD

  • Hattonboxing says:

Very intriguing, I must admit, I really do fancy this…

  • TOP FIGHTER says:

    Morales would kick Hattons ass!!

  • o210 says:

why do you think the mafia GBP would like hatton to fight morales. its all about moolah.. dinero…benjamins !!!they dont give zhit about boxers getting brain damaged. eat your balls oscar.dont screw us fans!

  • smilingjoe says:

Ricky Hatton the lineal champ of Jr. welter before Pacman retired him.

  • lee b says:

Yeah Anonymous but did you ever and do you now think JC could beat Chad Dawson. Even now, after Pascal, i reckon you would still say no. But lets get this straight so i can go off and watch a film in peace… you are saying JC would beat Andre Ward?? But would Carl Froch ?? I think we all know the answers to those questions . signing off for good.

  • Flouch says:

A prime hatton ko’s maidana, destroys alexander, ko’s khan. But floyd and PAC will always win. Hatton was a great fighter in his prime and for 6 rounds he gave floyd kittens. Cortez had a bit of an affect on the fight. The real issue was the hatton lost his composure and started lunging in and got caught. The same happened with PAC, he lost his discipline and got ko’d.

Good fighter just not as good as the very best.

  • lee b says:

elboriqua , i dont understand any of that, but you obviously think you know more than you do. For your information, Castillo WON the rematch with Corales .. so why and how was he finished when Hatton retired him?? ? Typical Yank rubbish trying to alter history .. is there another Platoon going on here?? Signing off

  • elboriqua says:

Hatton fought Castillo when Castillo was a shadow of his former self. This was a Castillo who have been through two wars with Corrales and both fighters were ruined.

Hatton did not beat anywhere near the Castillo who fought Floyd. Hatton can beat sugar ray leonard today…does that mean he is any good…

Is not who you beat, but rather when you beat them.

Hatton can beat MAB today…Amir Khan beat Barrera….does it mean anything.

Know your boxing before taking BS.

You guys ?? Anonymous this is an anti British thing that you have .. let it go mate. Brits support USA boxers all the time. Ok what fight has Joe Cortez refereed since the FMJ / Hatton fight, and was it without controversy ? I saw one the other night involving one of your country’s, shall we say, overhyped fighters, and he appeared to be wrestling on the floor trying to keep James Kirkland down. The guy is a brought member who you would not trust as far as you can throw .. dont get me wrong, it happens everywhere and all the time, but that fight [Hatton FMJ] was ruined. As for the Castillo fight, well nobody could help him, despite him being good enough to beat the hell out of FMJ in their 1st fight. Take down the star spangled banner mate, coz i aint got the x of St George on my wall. I’m just talking boxing

  • lee b says:

Anonymous you are obviously a Yank, and one who refuses to believe that Hatton was top of the 140s for 5 years .. he was beaten by 1 Welterweight and 1 once in a lifetime .. but you would probably not agree with that as Pacquiao isnt American, so your only argument is FMJ .. well we all know what happened in that fight, didnt Joe Cortez [who has controversy surrounding every fight he has refereed since] actually warn Hatton for just hitting FMJ at one point, and Hatton turned around and pretended to bare his ass? Yeah course mate, Castillo was finished, Urango beat him up .. cloud Cuckoo land buddy. If you really want to hate someone, you will find excuses to make it happen. This describes you Anonymous

  • elboriqua says:

Castillo was a have been and Kosta Tszyu was taken out of his game by a referee who was bought.

It was grappling hit, and hold and hit by Hatton. It was the only way he ould have a chance against a Tszyu who have not been fighting for almost 2 yrs.

Hatton held, hit while holding, hit low, hit behind the head. It wasn’t a fight, it was a Hatton coming out party and he wasn’t going to be denied.

Tszyu really quit because he knew he could win. Still some observers have the fight even going into round 11.

  • bayou says:

I’d rather see Hatton vs Berto and Morales vs Alexander

  • Unca Raja says:

    There’s still life after Pacman.

  • stuart croft says:

he should try his hand at sumo.

  • lee b says:

Ricky looks more like a super – middleweight now. I would say he could be in shape in maybe 6 months. To do it in less would be crazy against a guy like Morales. But if Ricky got back in shape i think he would give a good enough performance, which would, going on Eriks last fight, produce one of the fights of the year. Ricky is only 32. I say, go on.

  • elboriqua says:

Some said Hatton gave Floyd a “tough 12 rds”. I thought Floyd KO him with a check hook in the 10 rd. I could be wrong. I remember seeing the fight on HBO where Harold gave Floyd every round but the 2nd.

Dan Rafael of ESPN who is a Floyd hater gave Floyd every round.

I also remember Hatton’s fans crying about how Joe Cortez stole the fight for not allowing Hatton to hold and grab like they do in the UFC and MMA.

I actually think Hatton can win some MMA fights.

  • seanyc says:

How is ricky hatton not world class?he lost to 2 elite best of an era fighters!

  • Big ben says:

There is only ONEEEEEEEEEEEE Ricky Hatton, one Ricky Hatton.

No sure about this one champ, but we will support you whatever, you have given us some great fights, no matter what some losers may say over here.

There is only one rick hatton!!!

  • King Khan says:

Come on ricky give us one more fight one more there’s only one ricky hatton chant!!

  • jonboy says:

wouldnt say hatton gave mayweather an uncomfortable fight is was heavilly one sided from what i saw once floyd slowed hatton down with straight rights after the first couple of rounds. ricky is still a legend tho and should stick to promoting knowone wants to see him koed again. fighters like hatton have short careers

  • Anonymous says:

    * correction * you gave Mayweather an uncomfortable 10 rounds

  • Anonymous says:

Hatton’s star has not yet diminished and this is why it would be a great fight. So you got knocked out by Pacquiao, big deal, you gave Mayweather an uncomfortable 12 rounds and stole the heart of Kosta Tszyu.

Hatton would have no problem getting back to fighting weight but he has to want to. If he doesn’t then thats perfectly fine and completely understandable.

I would pay to watch Hatton v Morales.

  • king khan says:

Doubt this will happen, the other day he said hes now retired and liking being a promoter! Hes done his best as a fighter, id leave it at that

  • brittish guy says:

hatton is a legend done britain proud

  • Floyd's On Roids says:

This would be an interesting fight. With Erik Morales’s experience, if Floyd Mayweather Sr. trains Ricky Hatton for this fight, chances are, Hatton would get KTFO! We all saw the absolute best training Floyd Sr. had to offer, when he trained Hatton for the Pacquiao fight! All kidding aside, Hatton should stay out of the ring and enjoy his retirement just like Floyd Jr. is doing!

  • BIG G says:

as much as i love the hitman.i dont think he can get back to his fighting weight again

  • jonnyl says:

well considerin hatton just announced officially his retirement this must be bs. it from the news of the world which is renound for being full of s*it

  • bill says:

I really hope this happens. Hatton was the only fighter in recent years with down to earth roots. Khan, Haye etc very inlikeable and clearly money grabbing.
Hatton lost against the best. I really think this fight would be amazing. Their styles clashing would be unbelievable.

  • PAT PUMP says:

Leave Hatton alone…..Let him enjoy being retired. I hope he has saved his money and is OK.

  • andy says:

stick to promoting ricky u had ur time and only lost to the worlds best leave it at that. dont say same thng look wat duran did ( like with the putting weight on then getting it off etc ) ur not duran not even close mate, but ur a great guy and i didnt like to see you in that way after pacman ko`d you

  • elboriqua says:

Morales was drained at 130 and 135.

140 he still got a couple of fights.

Morales never really took a beating. Yeah he got KO 3 times by Manny, but he never took a 12 round beating.

  • elboriqua says:

This will be a good fight. Ricky vs Erik.

Both come to fight when not sniffing cocaine (Hatton) or eating a whole cow like Erik does.

  • KarlooosMexicaaan says:

He deserves this fight, but honestly i dont think he could win. Morales surprised the whole world, i thought maidana`s supposed to finish his career but morales sigue en el juego…

  • KarlooosMexicaaan says:

He deserves this fight, but honestly i dont he could win. Morales surprised the whole world, i thought maidana`s supposed to finish his career but morales sigue en el juego…

  • UNIQUE says:

RICKY WAS NEVER GOOD ENOUGH AT WORLD CLASS LEVEL, MORALES WOULD EASILY WIN, MORALES HAS THE HEART OF A LION, WHICH HATTON LACKS, MAIDANA WOULD OF KNOCKED HATTON OUT IN 2 ROUNDS, WHERE AS MORALES TOOK IT TO 12

  • English & Proud says:

Stay retired mate you have nothing else to prove, live your life and spend your money you deserve it.

  • Ozzie Bob says:

Stay retired Ricky! Be a trainer! Be a promoter! But know when enough is enough! No shame in being beaten by Mayweather or Pacquiao. Comebacks rarely end well!

  • salido boxing says:

morales too accurate, punches will definitely land on ricky’s chin. Goodluck ricky boy. No disrespect by the way.

  • astar says:

if hatton wants to fight then he should take a tune up fight and then see how he feels. It feels like ages since he fought. hatons got a good life now and he should be happy with what he has achieved and still achieving with his promo company. mentally it took him a lot to publicly notify us that is done with fighting. I don’t think it will happen and to be honest it shouldn’t happen. morales should target Ortiz, now that would be a top class fight.

  • dash says:

Wow The News of the World. It must be true because they never make up stories in order to sell newspapers.

  • liam says:

he’s out of shape.. but I can’t help wanting to see it. it could finaly be the end that hatton deserved.
and he could show khan how its done.

  • kirpal singh says:

ricky im a huge fan of yours, u dont need this fight uv only got 2 defeats against 2 of the worlds best fighers in ur division, let de la hoya fight him instead

  • punchy says:

what a great fight for the bull ring and hatton on form would be a great fight theres lots of other great fights out there for hatton but he has to wont them for himself dont come back for your fans come back for your self and show the world you still have it

  • john says:

    please take the fight!!

  • Anonymous says:

    TAKE THE RICKY!!

  • Anonymous says:

be a good fight that would

  • Illo says:

i am british but i never liked watching ricky fight. he was dull to watch with his constant clinching, and i am glad he has retired. he seems a nice bloke though, so i wouldnt wish to see him get hurt. the problem is if he were to beat morales, he might go for a shot at maidana or even pacquio again, and then he might get seriously hurt. stay in retirement ricky, boxnig is better off without you dude!

  • Matt says:

I would love to watch that fight, i think that would be a battle of two of the best lightweights and light welterweights ever, i think they should get it in. Ricky could have the fight in Manchester or Wembley Football Stadium would be HUGE over 100,000 people would turn up for that fight, They could have the fight signed by the end of the month, and Hatton do 16 week training camp. The fight could take place on August

  • roc.ant says:

    id watch it

  • World class boxing is shot says:

I hope not Ricky is out of shape and out of action for a long time. This is typical golden boy style trying to squeeze more money our of these comodities
