Floyd Mayweather Jnr vs. Prince Naseem Hamed: What do you think the HBO 24/7 would be like?

By Saqib Khan: I know boxing fans say Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao is the biggest fight, which I agree, but in terms of building up to a fight this would be the mother of all fights. The press conferences the stare downs the tension would be crazy.
The episodes would be full of drama, each fighter trying to get one over each other. HBO wouldn’t need to market this fight as both fighters know all the tricks in the book; the pay-per-view numbers would break all records.
One thing the prince would have over Mayweather would be the ring entrances; he would certainly do a ring entrance that would outshine Mayweather. Naz coming in the ring in jumbo jet or something stupid and Mayweather in a spaceship it’s crazy the possibilities, this fight could be billed as the battle of entrances.
At the end of the day, the business would be dealt in the ring and there would be one winner and that winner would be Floyd Mayweather Jnr, he would probably outbox Naz for twelve rounds, he would encounter problems in the fight as Naz was a big puncher at feather weight.
I think boxing is missing sports personalities like these. Fighters like Marco Antonio Barrera, Pacquiao, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez don’t do enough talking but do their talking in their ring that’s good but we need characters in boxing which can cause excitement and controversy. I wish these boxers were around in the same era in the same weight class a prime NAZ vs prime Mayweather. What do you think?

Would have been an interesting contest, the pre fight hype, would have been won hands down by Naz. In the squared circle, technically Mayweather would have been the better boxer. To give the ‘prince’ credit he was a gifted fighter, with fast hands quick reflexes and a devestating K.O punch.
Mayweather would have outboxed Hamed over 12 rounds taking a majority decision, I do believe though if it was a prime fully focused Hamed under Brendan Ingle, it could have been a tough night for the ‘pretty boy’. Had Naz at any time in the fight detonated a trademark blow to Mayweathers head, he would have most definately finished him off.
Mayweather only started becoming flashy and creating a “money” character only after his career was in full-swing. His showboating is not genuine at all and he does it only because nobody has shut him up yet. Hamed was doing all that stuff from the amateur ranks. His early entrances and ring antics were there from the very start. Mayweather even stole Hamed’s entrance for the Gatti fight being carried in. Hamed did that years before Mayweather.

Agree with the writer would have had epic build in terms of personality clash.disagree with the guy on the bottom saying hamed was arturo gatti.hamed was a very talented fighter who depended on reflexes sadly his lack of techical skills was what led barrera to beat him.must say hamed had some of the best footwork I had ever seen.it would be a good figh.hamed would be the fastest guy mayweather had fought in his career.mind says hamed would lose via his techical skills.but hamed was a big puncher so he could land a shot to ultmateily change the fight.one of thos great fights.that never happened.
This is just an unnecessary wishful thinking by writer who is possibly a day dreamer. Indeed,we do not need these type of acting in business. If they want to be a clown, they are much better off doing it with the Ring Brothers Circus with oither clowns and animals. But not in boxing, please!

I think the writer has made an error. I think he meant to say this fight WOULD have been a huge fight back in the day.
And it would have been back in 1999/2000. Hamed was a bigger star than mayweather in those days, which is why mayweather wanted to fight him at a catchweight, but the fight never got made. Would have been a cracking fight. But this goes into the list of fights that never happened

Mayweather and Naz were close to negotiating a fight after mayweather beat corralles. Would have been a brilliant fight, but I think mayweather would have won. But Naz will always be MY favourite fighter of all time.
