Did Maidana wreck Khan?
By Scott Gilfoid: In looking at how off WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (25-1, 17 KO’s) looked tonight in struggling to beat Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) by a 6th round technical decision you can only think of one thing: Could it be that Khan was wrecked by all the punches he absorbed in his last fight against knockout artist Marcos Maidana? I didn’t recognize Khan tonight. What I saw was a fighter who didn’t seem to have it anymore.
Maybe he took many head shots from Maidana and it messed up his gray matter? It might have been really bad for him had that beautiful head butt not occurred. That baby cut the fight in half for Khan, saving him from having to absorb punishment for six more rounds and have his chin and reflexes further tested by McCloskey. The referee pulling a quick stoppage might have been a game saver for Khan, keeping him winning for a little while longer until the Timothy Bradley bout.

khan was ok mcloskey’s elusiveness made khan look bad so who ever said that fighting Floyd now would be stupid is right but the Bradley fight makes sense ban needs to improve vastly b4 looking for Floyd
I used to be a Khan fan when he boxed but now he just seems like a watered down Pacman
Amir khan is cherry picking to the maximum…. i cant believe people can call floyd mayweather a cherry picker and support khan and pac…. its crazy
I think about my mum riding my dad when i’m cracking one off! I think my mum is dead sexy!
Saw the fight, had to turn the audio down because of the stupid Uk fans that kept blowing horns, feel sorry for the people that had to sit near them.
I want to tell you a story. I was searching the internet the other day and all of a sudden I came across a site called boxrec. If you’re not aware this site contains historial information about the all professional boxing fights. After browsing a little time I came across the name Andre Dirrell. I then clicked on this name and it said he had fought Carl Froch. Then something happened that almost made me die of laughers. The thing that was so hysterical was that Froch actually best Dirrell and that this statistic wil
bradley will kill khan.
Pacqui boy is going to get beat by bradley and that will be the end of him The gready smelly sh+t has P!ssed of all the promoters that will be the end of him good riddens
no mate mccloskey style is just really awkward stupid decison by khan to choose him. this puts to bed any talk of khan fightin floyd if he looks like that against mccloskey imagine how bad he would look against floyd
well said scott . 1st time i agree with this clown
fck amir khan nothin but hyped up CHUMP
I WANNA SEE KHAN FACE MAIDANA
Your comments DOC are spot on in every detail ,Khans got much to prove yet and Dudey was given a real raw deal last night stopping the fight on a insignifcent cut FACT.
Nope, I don´t think so and please stop crediting Maidana for Khans lack of concentration. I think his new conditioning coach doesn´t really know what´s the best for him yet. And my guess, Khan is not concentrating that much, because he was too irritated, more worried and concerned about what had happened recently where Sky Sport pulling out at the last minute, the lack of support from british fans and the thought of McCloskey earning more money than him.
Khan didnt look great last night, and I’m really sorry for poor schelps that had to pay for that fight (in the states we got it for free on HBO) but it wasnt that Khan looked bad as much as it was that Mcklosky looked good or at least better than we all thought he would. His defensive moves were great he just didn’t have the offense to counter punch with Khan. The thing about Khan is that he hasn’t lived up to the hype he has gotten and he is so arrogant that he talks after fights like he is dominating like Mike Tyson. Until you give me that spectacular show against a fighter on your level I’m not feeling the hype is matching the hope that he is the nest great boxer. For me what I saw in the Maidana fight was not that he had to run away at the end to keep from getting knocked out(I thought he boxed beautifully given the bad shape he was in) but what got me was in the 1st round he caught Maidana with a liver shot and then couldnt finish him. If you ever boxed sparred or been around fighters then you’ll know that a livershot is the worst place to get hit in boxing and its a gift to the fighter that threw the shot.
Anyways, there were three big fights last night and Khan was fourth.
Brain. Khan. You cannot put those two words in the same sentence. He is devoid of any grey matter. All he’s got is an oversized mouth, the same as Ha Ha Haye. As for the fight. Mc.Closkey was the stronger. The long and short of it is that cheating Khan’s headbutt stopped him from getting beat. It won’t be long before that Khan will be smashed into oblivion, and good riddance. Give Mc.Closkey another chance. He deserves it. As for Khan – get lost, and dont bother coming back.
I will say though if the Kahn Bradley fight is tight and awkward for the first six Kahn may ko himself on bradleys head trying to him haha be some sight wouldnt it. They could always tie both fighters hands behind there back and let them square off like giraffes I’ve seen stupider decisions from the athletic commissions haha
I believe Kahns carear will be simmilar to that of hatton where best in his class he’s always in with a good chance but attempting to step up for p4p status will be a disaster. He is young though and could devolpe slightly more. Where as rick was hitting the twilight don’t get me rong he wouldn’t done much better if he was peaking when he fought ffloyd and manny. Some-one mentioned Bradley having good head and body movement. I first saw him when he beat witter. And remember thinking then Kahn would pick either of these boys a part and he hasn’t been in a fight since then to make me feel different.
I hate american fight fans. Just because they dont see someone hyped up on HBO they assume hes a bum.
mcclosky had a very awkward style and i think khan was trying abit too hard for the knockout u can see he was losing his feet everytime he lunged in. against bradley he wont mke the same mistakes because hell want to box him from the outside which works well for his style.
Typical of the arsehole “writers” on this site! It’s very easy to sit back and be a “critic”. Khan was not good last night and i feel a bit of a knob paying to watch it! But why not admit McCloskey was alot better than what all the self proclaimed “experts” on this joke of a site thought he was? McCloskey gave a good account of himself last night and with Ortiz & Salido both winning their fights it just goes to show EVERY fighter must be respected at world level no matter who they are.
I wouldnt say he struggled to beat him he just missed 80% but still beat him comfortably but had that being Floyd oh dear Khan would of never hit the target and had being hit back
I would have like to seen the later rounds of the fight, Khan couldn’t sustain his agility forever and McCloskey was fit as a flee. One or two big shots on the end of Khans’s chin would have sent his weary bones to the canvas. McCloskey has the class and hopefully he’ll get a crack at the other big names.
I said McCloskey would give a good account of himself & yes he did, the fight should not have been stopped, what a joke, what is boxing becoming!!
full of s**t on ere.GIV mcCloskey de credit he deserves,he gave khan a tough fight not because khan is wrecked but because mcCloskey is a very skillful fighter, amir was gettin tired n dey needed any excuse to call de fight off incase amir lost.also khan wasnt clearly all over n beatin paul.it was close n de part sum1 z bou khan been all ova him was khan been desperate
It was a disappointing fight but lets not get carried away here. Khan won every round and won them easily.
McCloskey looks like a very good boxer and one who could easily match any of the top ten in his respective division, but he was never going to beat Khan. He made Khan miss but was not catching the champion with very much and Khan was all over him. Bradley will be much easier to hit then McCloskey and I see Khan smashing Bradley up.
McCloskey will be back and hopefully can fight for another world title very soon, he deserves it.
You know what? I think that Khan didn’t fight well last night because:
1. He got moved from Sky Sports Box office and lost money.
2. He has become so used to the good life in LA, he cannot be bothered with fighting here in UK any more.
3. He has switched conditioning coaches and it’s affecting him.
and 4. He just struggled with McCloskey’s awkward south stance, and just couldn’t figure him out.
I believe these reasons all contribute to why Khan didn’t do well last night.
That khan guy has the biggest mouth in boxing right now, watch out Mayweather I think he is out for that title too…
Reading his twitter comments post fight made me think that he [khan] lives in an alternate reality…
THE FIGHT WAS PACKED WITH KHAN FANS AND YOU SAW THEM ALL. ALL TWO AND A HALF ROWS OF THEM UP FRONT AND SITTING IN SEATS THAT KHAN GAVE TO THEM OR THEY WOULD’NT HAVE SHOWN UP FOR. ONLY HIS DAD MIGHT HAVE SHOWN UP IF THE SEATS WEREN’T FREE.
khan was rubbish a real letdown to any fans he might have
1 Question Scott? Was your brains wrecked from Boxing? Back in the bare knuckle days punch drrunk and brain damage didnt happen so much cause people split there knuckles first
Yes and he probably wrecked morales too.I would like to see a rematch.it would be no different.
RNS-SO WHATS UR POIINT???….I THINK THAT KHAN IS AFRAID OF GETTING HIT THE WAY PRESSCOT AND MAIDANA TAGGED HIM!!
Looked like khan was having trouble with Paul’s head and body movement, imagine the trouble he will have against Bradley, someone with superior head and body movement. I felt the fight was stopped prematurely, at least give the cut man a chance to do his job. I’m sure khan would still have won, but no doubt they want him in good condition for bradley. another Golden boy production
I think its a fair question. There was a piece on TV leading upto this fight where Roach and others were saying he was taking too many shots in sparring, laying on the ropes and not moving as much. It was suggested that after the Maidana fight he was more confident in his chin so felt he could stand in front of people a little more and show some balls in the gym. I think Khan looked ragged tonight. His movement and more importantly his balance were all over the place and he looked rather tired very quickly. I aint sure you can lay the blame at Maidana. I know he was a fitness coach but the only thing thats changed for Khan is losing Alex Ariza.
hahahaha…ko artist…maidana took a step up in class…and who has he knocked out
the thing is when prescott knocked khan out he appeared to give khan whip lash. as in, khans head and neck were twisted at high speed and it was very nasty. a boxer cant take too many shots like that and i think with maidana punching khan over and over it may have disconnected some nerves in khans brain. this may be why he couldnt coordiante well enough to knock someone out who he thought all along was complete rubbish.
