Arum used to be Morales’ promoter years ago, but became concerned with his health after his loss to David Diaz in 2007.

In an article by writer Michael Marley at examiner.com, Arum said “I am fearful for Erik. I am very nervous right now, and if you ask why, it’s because in his last fight for me which was a loss to David Diaz, Erik told us that he felt ringing in his head.”

Arum then decided not to have Morales fight again. He’s now worried about what may happen to him.

Morales have a big task ahead of him in trying to beat Maidana. Forgetting what Arum had to say for a second, Morales is likely going to get pounded in this fight because he’s not a true light welterweight and he’s facing the biggest puncher in the division in Maidana.

Morales, a former super featherweight before retiring in 2007, he ballooned up in weight to the 190s in retirement. To his credit, Morales has stripped off over 50 pounds of blubber. However, he still seems a little flabby and needs to take off even more weight to get back down to his old weight class.

The problem is when you take that kind of weight off, it often leaves a fighter much weaker than they once were. Perhaps that’s why Morales has seemed so weak since coming back. He’s won his three fights, to be sure, but he’s looked incredibly slow and weak. Maidana will have no problems catching up to Morales and putting hands on him. Hopefully, the referee is on his job on Saturday and pulls the plug quickly when Morales starts getting beaten up by Maidana.
