Rigondeaux defeats Casey, looks impressive
By Eric Thomas: In a fight that perhaps shouldn’t have never been made in the first place, undefeated interim WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KO’s) destroyed Ireland’s Willie Casey (11-1, 7 KO’s) in the 1st round on Saturday night after knocking him down three separate times in a fight at the West Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. Casey, ranked #11 by the WBA, used the wrong approach to fighting the 30-year-old Rigondeaux.
Casey staggered badly as he got to to his feet and incredibly the referee let him continue to fight. Rigondeaux calmly took him out with a few quick shots that caused to go down briefly for the 3rd time. The referee didn’t give Casey another chance and stopped the fight at 2:28 of the 1st round.

The fight was a mismatch. Don’t how the promoters or willie could have made any serious money out of this fight. A few defences of his European title and playing it safe, would have made willie more money, kept his career in tact and then go after a world title. Now he is back to square one.
el shakal will shock the world, only neeeds time to get in the pro ranks ,only time will tell!pound for pound watch out guys shakal is coming for you!WORD!
i want to see him fighting donaire..
Have to agree with Don…. Willie is a legend but with 50 fight’s under his belt he still would’nt have a chance against Rigondeaux, the man is pure class a totally different animal.
It’s true Willie could of been seriously hurt If Rigo even went to 2nd gear….The fight was a mismatch from the second it was announced.
sorry eric..tactics in this fight were never the issue..the fact this fight was ever allowed to happen stinks”would like to hear the irish boxing commisions views about this;;casey was never ever gonna b competitive..too much smoke being blown up his backside”this shouldnt b happening in the sport..
