Rees injured, Crolla fight off

By Sean McDaniel: British lightweight champion Anthony Crolla (20-2, 8 KO’s) is now in search of a replacement opponent after his scheduled opponent for April 16th, former WBA World light welterweight champion Gavin Rees (34-1, 16 KO’s) injured his nose while training and won’t be able to make the 4/16 date to take on Crolla for his British title. Crolla is fighting on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Paul McCloskey fight at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England.

Crolla recently defeated John Watson by a 9th round stoppage to claim the British lightweight title in February. With Rees out, Crolla is going to have to look quickly to see if he can find someone suitable for the card. This would be a huge blow for the Khan-McCloskey card if Crolla can’t make it.

There’s not a lot of interesting fights on the card with only Scott Quigg facing Andrei Isaeu, Craig Watson vs. Lee Purdy, Matthew Macklin vs. Khoren Gevor, Martin Murray vs. John Anderson Carvaelho, and Graeme Higginson vs. Andy Murray. The fight is a pay-per-view card but there is precious little in the way of interesting fights on the card, including the mismatch in the main event between Khan and the little known McCloskey. They would do well to drop the price on the PPV card or make it free unless they can find a really interesting fight to take up the slack for the dull fights on the card.
