Mayweather vs. Spadafora in July?

By Daniel Echevarria: Hey Fight Fans news is circulating like wild fire about a possible fight between “The Scientist” Floyd “Money” Mayweather and unbeaten “The Pittsburgh Kid” Paul Spadafora. The history of these two fighters dates back ten years ago when they clashed in a Las Vegas Gym in which video was captured that can be found on YOUTUBE which many say Spadafora got the best of Mayweather which Floyd claims he wasn’t in shape at the time.

Michael Acri promoter of Paul Spadafora has gone on record saying he has been approached by Don King and others connected to Mayweather for a possible fight in July and Paul is interested in finishing what he started ten years ago. Fight Fans this is obviously a tune up fight let’s not play dumb here OK but check out the video of the fight on YOUTUBE and here is some info on “The Pittsburgh Kid” Paul Spadafora – Known as “The Pittsburgh Kid”, Spadafora hails from a borough outside of Pittsburgh named McKees Rocks.Spadafora had a fruitful amateur career, winning 75 of 80 bouts. His dreams of becoming a professional boxer were almost dashed before he turned professional:

According to the official reports, Spadafora was traveling in a car that was driven by a friend. When his friend began to go over the speed limit, he was chased by a cop. Since the driver refused to stop, the cop fired a shot, hitting Spadafora in the achilles’ tendon . On October 18, 1995, Spadafora made his professional debut, winning a four round knockout of Steve Maddux. He won a total of four fights in his initial year.In 1996, he fought eight times, winning all, six by knockout. In 1997, he fought six times, but his percentage of knockout wins dropped considerably when he only won two of those six bouts by knockout. In 1998, he continued his winning ways throughout the year, winning all six bouts, three by knockout. One of the aforementioned KO’s took place on the exhibition bout card, featuring long retired veteran Dan Maloney and Tim Witherspoon.

He began 1999 by raising his quality of opposition, facing the veteran Rocky Martinez. He won that fight by a unanimous decision, and after one more win he and Israel Cardona met in Chester for the I.B.F.’s vacant world crown on August 20. An underdog in the betting lines, Spadafora nevertheless became world champion, defeating Cardona in a 12 round decision. Then he retained the title with an 11 round knockout of Renato Cornett to finish the year.He opened 2000 with a 12 round decision over Victoriano Sosa to retain the title, and subsequently defended his title again by knockout over Mike Griffith in round 11, and beat Billy Irwin in a 12 round decision to close the year. By 2001, Spadafora was already a regular on the HBO Boxing television show. He retained the title with a 12 round decision over Joel Perez and won one non-title fight that year.

He began 2002 by retaining his title over Angel Manfredy with a 12 round decision. His only other bout that year was a 12 round decision win over Dennis Holbaek, also with his world title on the line.

In 2003, Spadafora and WBA world champion Leonard Dorin decided to meet to try to unify their world titles. They met on May 18, but the fight was declared a draw (tie), both boxers remaining as world champions in their respective organizations.

  • yatusabes says:

@ Collin brown Cotto is too good to be a left over. Mayweather knows that thats why mayweather ducked him years ago. Cotto won’t stand there taking a punch like mosley but its ok an ammateur would not know any better only a pro like me would

  • yatusabes says:

    what??

  • lou says:

Johndoe you and all the Fraud fans know if Mosley was on his EPO that night that fight ends in round 2 or 3. Mosley is nothing but a shot fighter when he’s not jucing. I’m sure he’ll be juiced out to the max when he faces Pacquiao

  • BIG MOE says:

This is a mere tune up fight. Nothing more; nothing less. People will always try and find something to hate about mayweather no matter what. just like shane is a “keep busy” or “tune up” fight as well. what do people want? for mayweather to jump right in the ring against pac without getting his feet wet? how silly. it would be a trip if this fight does over a million against a virtually unknown fighter. Pac/Clottey did 700,000 buys and people said pac sarried the fight. if the mayweather fight cracks a million, then floyd’s star power will undeniable.

  • bri says:

why would floyd set up a bout when he will probably be on trial at that time??????? more rumers somethin different every day. and you idiots fall for it every time.

  • Administrator says:

Spadafora should have the bigger cut in the purse. He’s UNDEFEATED with 45 wins vs MW’s 41 with an asterisk on his W against Castillo

  • tin says:

A fighter has the right to fight whoever they whant,it is he who is going inside the ring and not us, if we dont like it dont watch it,if Floyd fans dont want to be criticize then stop criticizing Paq .

  • Josh says:

I would love to see this fight because this guy is underrated and knows floyds skills Floyd does not really have any other options and I think it’s a harder fight then Mosley pacquiao so I don’t see what the big deal is I would buy the fight

  • The Fighter says:

Only those who let themselves fool by Floyd will watch another tune up fight!

  • tin says:

Lets not overreact this is just rumors.keep our thought until it is confirm

  • gagoka says:

another non sense fight paid by FLOYD JR. he cant faced a credible baxer

  • Achillesrage says:

What happened to the talk about facing the winner of Martinez vs Williams the 2 best 154 pdrs. what happened to manny? it’s OK Paul Spaddafora is a lot better than most give him credit, he kicked floyds Arse is sparring twice so hopefully he will humble this braggart

  • kev says:

    @JOHN DOE

finally somebody who knows wtf they’re talking about…. good post bro i couldnt have said it better myself

  • johndoe says:

About as true as the Matthew Hatton rumors were. Thats all Pac fans kept saying after PAC WALKED AWAY, was Floyd is gonna fight Matt Hatton, what a cherry-picker, blah, blah, blah. Then it came out that as soon as Pac lied to get out of fighting Floyd, Floyd turned to the #1 WW and #3 p4p fighter and no one else. Then Pac fans said no way would Floyd fight him, he would fake an injury and not fight(which he has NEVER done) and then it became Mosley would kill Floyd and then immediately after the fight Mosley was too old and nothing but a cherry-picked bum. Boxers mention the top fighters names for a reason- to get their name out there! Truthfully, I would like to see a Spadafora-Mosley fight, as I would give a slight edge to Paul in that one.

  • True Pinoy says:

And how much is Floyd demanding to make this fight? Yeah, maybe $90M. How close is the RBT to the fight? Where is the greatness?

  • the truth about mayweather says:

this article is no where near true, there is a recent report that Muhammed Ali is making a return and Mayweather wants that fight real bad. It could make a lot of money.

  • lou says:

Catching Paul when his skill’s have eroded behind prison walls. King of the Cherry picken. We are all hopen you lose you fraud.

  • king khan says:

To be honest pacs opponents have been laughable so this is basically the same

  • steroids help says:

First of all this is a good sign… This may be a tune up fight bc he isnt going to make a crazy amount of money on this fight so this may be a tune up fight to sharpen his skills and maybe fight pacman in the winter… Either way people arent going to order this fight it will be as competitive as pacman mosley

  • Kostya Tyzsu says:

If this fight happens fans will hate Mayweather even WORSE. Paul Spadafora is a fighter undefeated as well in over 40 fights, but i’ve been watching him for YEARS ever since ESPN and he is no match for mayweather. He will lose and Mayweather would make him look bad too. I have a feeling we will finally see a Mayweather Pacquiao in december. If not then it will not likely ever happen.

  • Ros says:

If this is true, Money May chooses to fight someone for nothing, no millions there, isn´t it? I´m amazed, it seems like a big demotion to me. He is definitely avoiding Pacquiao. But I have this feeling, one day once Pacquiao retires, Mayweather will regret why he didn´t take the fight. The problem is once Pacquiao retires, no plans coming back in boxing for him like what the other boxers did. There is a reason why Pacquiao is still fighting, he is just waiting himself to turn 35 yrs of age and maintains his popularity until then. Then he´ll run in the governorship or Senate, and then runs for president down the line.

  • bro says:

more rumers about floyd. if he cant make more then 20 million fighting he is not getting out of bed. any b.s. rumer spreads like wildfire.

  • kulogo says:

sinong niloloko mo,Ayaw nga nya lumabang sa mga walang pera..sasabihin mo lalaban sya kay Spadadora. anong makukuha nya rito barya lang…Tigilan mo na kahibangan mo.

  • ryan d says:

p4p what a joke!!! buy a ppv fight to get put to sleep by floyd fighting a guy know one nows!!! floyds done cherry picking and just gonna start fighting nobody

  • Anonymous says:

    ah hahahaha

  • reverse says:

    what a joke

  • Dummy says:

Wow and people are giving Pac $hit for digging Mosely. I don’t even know who Spandafora is.

  • Anonymous says:

If this Spadafora is so good, how come he’s not better known to boxing fans?

  • Anonymous says:

It means nothing to anyone except PBF fans, it’s absolutely pointless.

  • AAA says:

How much is May making on this one? 90 mil? HAHAHA!!!

  • Floyd's On Roids says:

This would be a good tune up fight for Floyd. Paul Spadafora is a southpaw and an undefeated light welterweight (45-0-19ko’s) I’m sure Floyd will demand Olympic style blood testing all the way up to the fight, for this one! I’ve seen Spadafora fight on ESPN’s Friday Night Fight’s a number of times, an entertaining fighter. Spadafora is the boxer with the tattoo’s all over his body and was arrested for cocaine, and did prison time for the attempted murder of his girlfriend, Nadine Russo.

  • TIRED OF PAC says:

Its good to hear a different name attached to Mayweather than Pacquiao for a change. I would like to see an under dog who is still hungry to fight instead of an ego and a huge pay check

  • jersey says:

Sounds like a good idea to have a tune up fight. But he will get bashed because of who he is fighting.Let him get one under his belt then judge him on his next fight.
