Image: Mayorga says he can see fear in Cotto’s eyes after he refuses to face offBy Dan Ambrose: Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s) appears to have gotten the better of WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) during their final press conference on Wednesday when Cotto refused to stand and look Mayorga in the eyes for the traditional face of.

Mayorga was at first baffled and then amused by Cotto’s reluctance to look him in the eyes. Mayorga saw at as a further sign of fear coming from Cotto, and it’s hard to disagree with that. Cotto clearly looked intimidated by Mayorga, not just at this press conference but at the other press conferences as well.
Mayorga had this to say about Cotto:

“I’m either going to knock Cotto down or I’m going to bust him open with a cut on one of [his] two eyes. I guarantee you that’s going to happen in the first round. As soon as that bell sounds, I’m going after him. I’m going to kill this guy. I can sense that Cotto has a genuine fear of me. I can see it in his eyes. I can see it in his face.”

Cotto said “You can take the picture with your mother.” That may have been a slightly witty remark but Cotto said it at a distance and looked afraid while saying it, like he didn’t want to get too close to Mayorga for fear he might get tagged.

I agree with Mayorga. He’s not just joking around. Cotto really does look scared of him. Mayorga is like a time bomb where you never know when he’s going to go off. Cotto has never been in with a guy like this before sand he seems way out of his element.
