Johnson vs. Froch: Does Glen have enough left to beat Carl?
By William Mackay: At 42, Glen Johnson is an old warrior with countless fights under his belt and many war scars from his many battles. Johnson, a career light heavyweight, has found success recently by moving down in weight and participating in the Super Six tournament.
Johnson’s best hope is with the defensively limited Froch, who fights with his hands down by his sides and doesn’t have much in the way of hand speed. Froch, a big puncher, is the favorite to beat Johnson on May 21st because of his power and size advantage. However, Johnson has a couple of things going for him that may help him find success against Froch.
Johnson has a very high work rate and is capable of really letting his hands go. Froch, as we saw in his loss to Mikkel Kessler last year, has problems with his stamina and doesn’t seem comfortable with fighters throwing a lot of punches. Froch needs rest breaks and Johnson can beat him if he stays near Froch and keeps landing until the Brit wears down and is ready to fold up.

funny
Froch is a beast, I should imagine he’s training hard right now, while you’re typing, then tonight when you sleep he’ll be training before he goes to sleep and dreams of training.
Stamina issues? Froch is MR STAMINA, I have no doubt the road warrior is going to wish he’d run down an even longer road.
I wouldn’t put Froch in the no stamina category, more like the rather die in the ring type. I think he was off his game the night he fought Kessler, but it doesn’t matter as he had no chance of winning a Sauerland promoted fight held in Denmark.
The jury is out on the actual winner of the Kessler fight anyhow.
I am looking forward to this fight so much. Glen Johnson is brilliant for boxing, he would get in the ring with anybody and give any boxer a fight!
Carl Froch last 5 fights being Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler and Abraham…winning 4 of 5. 1 win was controversial, 1 loss was controversial. Losing to Taylor until he knocked him out in the last round, Dominated Abraham from start to finish, had in my opinion one of the fights of the year against Jean Pascal.
I can’t wait for this fight, Froch SHOULD win this, but I would never ever count Glen Johnson out. He will be dangerous for Froch from start to finish.
Prediction: Froch by Unanimous Decision
IT WILL BE THE SAME AS THE JOHNSON VS GREEN FIGHT. ONLY JOHNSON WILL PLAY THE PART OF GREEN .
It’s arguable if glencob ever had enough to beat froch
It should be a good one ,but froch is alot younger.
easy tune up fight 4 carl b4 de final
@Guvnor
you sir, have got it spot on.
Froch to win super 6!
first, there is no way Froch can win by ko or tko. Glen has never been stopped except once long time ago against B-hop. Johnson has fought more skiiled opponent like Bad chad dawson and he put them in trouples and he never was an easy fight.
I think froch will decision Johnson by 2-3 rounds.
FROCH STRUGGLES WITH HIS STAMINA, ARE YOU KIDDING ME.
HE HAS THE BEST STAMINA OUT THERE, OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVEN’T FOLLOWED FROCH THROUGHOUT, JUST THE SUPER SIX OR MAYBE FROM THE PASCAL FIGHT. EVEN SO, FROM THE PASCAL FIGHT GOING ONTO TAYLOR ISN’T IT OBVIOUS HE HAS A SUPERIOR STAMINA COMPARED TO MOST?!
I CANNOT SEE ANYTHING BUT A FROCH WIN, HE IS AN AWKWARD CUSTOMER, THROWS FROM FUNNY ANGLES COMPARED TO MOST, AND WITH REGARDS TO HIS DEFENCE, HE DOES WELL AT NOT GETTING HIT AND YOU CAN SEE IN THE ABRAHAM FIGHT HIS HANDS WERE UP WHEN NEEDED AS HE KNOWS HE HAD THE POWER TO KO..
WITH FROCHS GRANITE CHIN, SUPERIOR STAMINA AND THE HEAVY LEATHER HITS TAKING THERE TOLL ON THE AGEING JOHNSON THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE WINNER HERE..
I actually believe Johnsons workrate will be an advantage to Carl as Glen will keep coming forward and he wont have to go looking for him like he did with Dirrell.
I do question the comment around questioning Carls stamina as he has in his last few fights won late rounds to win the Dirrell fight, stopped Taylor in the 12th, won late rounds to clinch the Pascal win and stood toe to toe with Kessler in the 12th.
What I do belive is that Carl is too complacent, bordering on lazy at times. How many times does Carl finish a fight and look like he could have go on for extra rounds? Nearly every fight.
I believe Froch will stop Johnson in the middle rounds and will then travel to the Final of the ‘Super Ward Six’ tourney.
Result of that 1 – Im not sure yet. Splinters in my arse time.
i think it might be Johnson’s last fight, bless him. I hope Froch doesn’t hurt him too much, he’s a good bloke.
Froch is top draw and will win the fight.
to everyones suprise i see johnson stopping overhyped and overrated froch. Froch has it coming to him for ripping dirrel off.
Green was actually ahead on points until Johnson knocked him out with what was only a glancing blow…
Full respect to Johnson – he’s a true warrior, but Carl has too much of everything basically.
Froch will pound Glen and stop him late on. People are making too much of his win against the overrated Green! Should be a good fight while it lasts though!
