Gonzalez decisions Vargas

By Eric Thomas: Unbeaten WBA junior flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (28-0, 23 KO’s) defeated Manuel Vargas (29-8-1, 14 KO’s) in an optional title defense on Saturday night at the Plaza San Diego , San Pedro Cholula, Puebla, Mexico. The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 119-109. Gonzalez effortlessly jabbed and tagged the over-matched Vargas with shots all night long and had little problems winning.

Vargas had had a lot of problems in the last couple of years, losing to Donnie Nietes, Nonito Donaire, Ramon Garcia Hirales, Giovani Segura and now Gonzalez. The only thing you can say about these defeats is that Vargas has showed a pretty decent chin except for the Donaire and Seguara bout.
