Golden Boy still going ahead with Donaire’s next fight on 5/28

By Eric Thomas: Even with the threat of an impending legal battle with Top Rank promotions looming, Golden Boy Promotions, the new promotional company for WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KO’s), are busy working hard looking to find a suitable opponent for Donaire’s next fight on May 28th. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he still has a valid contract with Donaire, according to Ringtv.
Donaire is coming off of one of his best wins of his 10-year career with his 2nd round TKO win over WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel last February. It was thought that Donaire would stay with Top Rank, who were talking of putting him in with WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno and making Donaire a rich fighter. However, Donaire suddenly signed with Golden Boy Promotions and now Top Rank are looking to get him back.
Arum is reportedly looking for an arbitration hearing on the Donaire matter, with the judge being Daniel Weinstein, the same judge that settled Top Rank’s previous contract dispute with Manny Pacquiao in the past.

guys let us give donaire a chance to defend himself…but with the golden boy i don’t know,it seems oscar now care only for the money and not with the sports of boxing…shame.

Pacquiao really entertain fans whenever he fights. The only problem is he cherry pick opponents. Pacquiao the greatest fake in boxing today.
Golden boy will grab every opportunity to outsmart Toprank whether it means lawsuit. Right now they are still salivating because of envy, for Toprank owned the biggest money making machine in the business-Manny Pacquiao. Toprank outsells Golden Boy by a margin of 20 to 1 in form of income. Every Golden Boy’s effort to marginalize Paquiao by hiring sportswriters like Lahr and Williams is useless because Pacquiao really entertain fans whenever he fights. Now they are seeing another Filipino upcoming fighter in Donaire and they will use every opportunity to use him to at least balance the situation. Besides being a former boxer, Oscar de la Hoya is a businessman who will do everything to earn extra millions even to almost being rendered handicapped by Manny on the ring. If they are unsuccessful in their bid for Donaire, you will again see lots of damaging write-ups for him by Lahr and Williams.
I think Donaire did not get a good advice on his career. Or just been influenced by his wife. Its alright to move to GBP but you have to wait for another two months to finish his contract with TopRank. They said Arum is greedy but I think GBP is worst. NBA,NFL,MLB Teams don’t sign up players if you have a contract to another team. GBP lured Pacquiao and Donaire with big cash to sign up with them. (Is it illegal to pay Pacquiao $700,000 cash as signing bonus. How can uncle Sam tax that money?) It was returned though.
GBP got lucky the first time to get percentage to all Pacquiao fight. I don’t know about this time. You can’t do it twice. Its a bad precedent.

A one championship fight that Donaire got from Top Rank is one better fight than few combined fights he could have made with another promoter, to include GBP. Well, will see about that. Maybe GBP will slap Arum’s face with what GBP can make out of Donaire.
HEY PACQUIAO DID SOMETHING SIMILAR TO GOLDEN BOYS. HE SIGN WITH GOLDEN AND THEN SIGNS WITH TOP RANK TOO. NOW GOLDEN BOY IS SEEKING FOR REVENGE.
Donaire needs to punch arum..and it’s over.
Top Rank in the past had all the chances in the wotld to give Donaire the fights he deserved but sadly came short of it and to the disgust and frustration of Donaire and boxing fans. Top Rank practically sat on Donaire’s career all these years. Arum just got what he deserved.
