DeGale: Groves won’t be helped by sparring with Dirrell
By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten British super middleweight champion and former 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist James DeGale (10-0, 8 KO’s) isn’t impressed in the least that undefeated Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves (12-0, 10 KO’s) is sparring with super middleweight contender and former Super Six tournament participant Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) to help get the 23-year-old Groves ready for his fight with DeGale on May 21st at the O2 Arena, in Greenwich, London.
DeGale raises a good point. How can Groves honestly beat him if he doesn’t have much in the way of hand speed and comes in with his head not moving at all to get out of the way of shots? You’d have to make DeGale a heavy favorite in this fight no matter how many times Groves spars with Dirrell.
It simply takes too long to really show improvement no matter how good your sparring partners are. When you’re dealing with a fighter that is superior to you the way that DeGale is with Groves, it’s not going to help him nearly enough to put him in with Dirrell. Besides, Dirrell and DeGale don’t have a similar fighting style. Both are southpaws but DeGale is much more offensively minded than Dirrell and throws more combinations than the American fighter.

De Gale has the knack of getting people offside with his arrogant demeanour. I hope Groves can topple him.
Degale the talking horse.
Degale is a dirty mongrel who looks like a horse. I would rather be ginger than a mong. everyone wants degale to loose. his so arrogant he thinks he get more support than george. Horse head look at the boxing forums and comments on youtube. everyone wants you to get knocked out! “you get me blud” no we all hate you.
Degale more attacking than direll
What planet are you on
Dirrell is fast and crisp in his punching.,he will show alot even to a sparring partner. To do any good as a partner,Who knows?
DeGale is a horse, his head has been grafted on from the 3.05 at Cheltnam.
“Why the long face?”.
Ha ha, a story with Dirrell in it that actualy involves the talented one! I hope the talentless Mr Dirrell is not going to teach Groves how to run all night, then, in the event of taking a couple of hard shots, fall to the floor in an Oscar winning performance.
The mention of Dirrell’s name is justified here, because he has been called in to help Groves to prepare for his bout with DeGale.
wow, is this a first?
another writer has mentioned the name ‘Andre Dirrell’.
Scotty won’t be happy that his territory has been trampled on
Degale is a complete idiot
Degale is a ponce
