ANTHONY FITZGERALD new European ‘EBA’ Middleweight Champion !!

by the ‘European Boxing Association – EBA / ANTHONY FITZGERALD (Ireland) was proclaimed last Saturday March 19th in Dublin, Ireland, the new European ‘EBA’ Middleweight Champion after beating by TKO on the 4th round (min. 0:52) to the strong and well experienced French challenger AFFIF BELGHECHAM. The fight was lead during the first four rounds by the local star, causing even a deep cut on Belghecham’s nose that almost cause the intervention of the ring-doctor. However at the beginning of the 5th round, and after a strong combination of punches from Fitzgerald that put Belghecham defenseless against the ropes, the scoring-referee of the Championship Mr. Jose Ignacio Martinez had to stop the fight by TKO. The other two judges were Stanley Christodoulou (RSA) and Alfredo Polanco (MEX). The scores from the three judges up to the 5th round were unanimously 40-36 for the local.

In the main event of evening Interim WBA Super Bantamweight Champion Guillermo Rigourdeux (CUB) beat the local hero Willie Casey in the first round by KO after three consecutives knock-downs. The promoter of the event was Dolphil Promotions and it was broadcasted live by Ireland RTE Two.
