Montiel to get plastic surgery to fix a hairline fracture in right cheekbone

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel is to undergo plastic surgery to repair a hairline fracture of his right cheekbone he suffered when he was tagged by a powerful left hook by challenger Nonito Donaire last Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The the punch thrown by Donaire knocked Montiel flat and created a huge dent in the side of Montiel’s head. It looked as if it had partially created a hole in the side of Montiel’s cheek.
Montiel, to his credit, got up from the knockdown but he was quickly overwhelmed as Donaire landed a fast one-time that caused the referee to halt the fight.
Montiel was never able to get his offense in gear because the fight was over too quickly before he was able to land any of his big power shots. Donaire appeared to hurt Montiel in the opening round after tagging him with a hard left and right hand. Montiel stayed on his feet but he was forced to back up and regroup. It wasn’t a good sign for what was to come later in the 2nd.

Donaire has no business in the same ring as jml or gamboa they would take him out quick and in a way peds do increase your chin because it builds reflexes and what you can see coming doesn’t hurt as much as the unexpected use logic
I hope that Great Montiel can recover and fight another title fight. Mexican boxers are the great and respected rival with Filipino boxers hope both you can promote boxing as an art not a war.

like I said before, anabolic steroids does not improve one’s ability to take a punch, enhance reflexes, increase stamina. It’s just anabolic meaning it increases muscle myofilaments ( muscle proteins ); Thus, increasing muscle size.
Common man, if you do understand boxing and human physiology, a muscular boxer may have the punching power but lacks stamina (chin and reflexes that is inborn). Marion jones is a track and field star. She is a sprinter meaning she only runs short distances. The anabolic steroid helped get a burst of energy because of her increase muscle mass. She cannot run for longer distance because anabolic steroids does not improve blood vessel supply of glucose and oxygen ( these 2 are important so that our muscles can make ATP, THE ENERGY CURRENCY OF THE BODY). Just like the heavy weights big and powerful but lacks stamina.
That is way people that do strenght training have lesser stamina (but have the strength) than people that do cardio or aerobic training.
To the doubters…. untill you can substiate claim that peds help an average boxer to become great one, you should just your mouths and marvel at the talent of Filipino boxers.
Only one name… just tell me one boxer in history who’s gone from average to become the greatest because of peds.

I get it guys, but on the real we all should take it up with the commission and the sanctioning bodies. Tell tehm to change their testing procedures.
On another note real Olympic Testing is less invasive and most of it is done in training when doping is most effective. It would be really dumb for an elite athlete to come in to any competition dirty.

I have been watching boxing for 10+ years … and I have to admit Pinoy Boxers are not flashy or have the classic counter/defense.
Both Manny and Donaire fights on instincts … they find a way to over come the opponent. Look at Donaire’s last 3 fights … each fight he found away to win … looking for the right shots.
illegal performance enhancing drugs (PED) are made in countries with money to make them. that’s the reason why there is heavy testing in the olympics. because it is international and many from the poor countries find it unfair to complete against athletes from the first world, that have better facilities in everything, and if they would use enhancers, that’s going beyond natural human capabilities.

To clarify my point on Martinez, his first fight with Williams was a twelve round fight of the year war of attrition with Paul Williams that Martinez lost. Which is what made the 2nd round one punch KO even more astounding.
Clearly that KO was not what was expected, at least I thought I was in for another 12 round battle.
My point is I didn’t see you on this site on every story about the KO rant and rave that Maravilla was on the juice.

It’s just coincidence that you do this to only Pacquiao and Donaire? Listen to have a one punch KO like that you need accuracy and timing. If you watch replays of the first round Donaire connected with a clean counter left that didn’t floor Montiel. The second one was perfectly timed and unexpected.
Pacquiao floored Hatton in the first round of their fight too, the one punch KO was exactly what Donaire’s was, and in reality for Pacquiao it hasn’t happened since. The loose connections you make are truly just carless observation.
Maravilla’s one punch KO after a twelve round battle the first round is more out of character than the Hatton and Donaire KOs, but you don’t question that one.

He says that he wants to unify, but I would like to see him going up to 122 and fight for another championship, perhaps against Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. who is the WBO Champ. He has quite some options: Abner Mares, maybe another fight with Vic Darchinyan, Koki Kameda or Joseph Agbeko. The big names are two weight classes above 118 lbs. At 126 we have Chris John, Juan M. López and Yuriorkis Gamboa.
