Kellerman skeptical about Adamek’s chances against the Klitschkos

By Eric Thomas: Former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek (43-1, 28 KO’s) has received his big wish of a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers in September. This is Adamek’s big chance to try and become a three division world champion by beating one of the two best heavyweights in the world right now.

However, the chances of that happening are incredibly slim to say the least. HBO analyst Max Kellerman also has his doubts about the 6’1 ½” Adamek pulling off an upset against the Klitschkos due to the size differences, among other things.

In an interview of Kellerman at fightnews.com, Kellerman said “Adamek is so much smaller than these guys [the Klitschkos], and these guys can fight. These guys are large, large and they can fight.”

It’s not just the lack of height that will be a problem for the 34-year-old Adamek. He also will be giving up five to six inches in reach to both of the Klitschkos, as well as 35 pounds in weight. This isn’t going to be a fight where Adamek is taking on an old 6’7” Michael Grant, who isn’t throwing any punches all fight long and just letting Adamek do whatever he wants in the ring.

Adamek will be getting nailed all night long on the outside and every time he comes in to try and land. He’s going to have serious problems against either of the Klitschkos. He will no doubt have his brief moments in the fight where he is able to run forward and land something before scurrying away. But that’s no recipe for victory.

You can’t beat the Klitschkos by running forward every once in a while to land one punch and then running away. That won’t work because the Klitschkos will be nailing the shorter Adamek repeatedly with jabs and hooks while he’s running around the ring in wide circles. He might as well forget that plan altogether and just get it over with and rush the Klitschkos and hope for the best. Adamek’s end will be much quicker and painless in comparison to getting jabbed to pieces.

Adamek has a tune-up bout against 37-year-old Kevin Mcbride (35-8-1, 29 KO’s) on April 9th at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey. McBride, 6’6″, has been picked because of his size in hopes that he might get Adamek partially prepared for facing one of the tall Klitschkos. McBride probably won’t help Adamek get prepared one bit, other than perhaps getting his confidence up because McBride won’t be competitive. There’s no comparison between McBride and the Klitschkos.

If the K bros dont stop the Polish dude then they are not very accomplished great heavywieght champs don,t lose to that much smaller man.but rocky was small, but never faced the likes of a klitschco.

All jockeys should be flyweights with Docs thinking! Adamek is a freakin disgrace.

adamek and haye would have been better of staying at cruiserweight. their show down there would be one of the biggest fights in history. and would establish one of them as a great cruiserweight. neither of them had top notch competition at cruiserweight. adamek only has to look good, not beat vladimir to establish a legacy. when a fighter is that much smaller, looking good make him greatl. and being a two weight class champion, he becomes a legend. and he could still get hayes belt, it always has a weak defender, regardless of who has it. (adamek fans have to be realistic. i am a big chambers fan, but never thought the had a chance against vladimir). (watching chambers beat samuel peter, who was 40 pounds heavier, was a thrill.) i find chambers, adamek, and haye all interesting to watch. and they are the same size. those would be great matchups…plenty of give and take.

  • Haye the running master says:

I’m Adamek’s big fan but I have no illusions, he won’t beat Klitschko. But I’m hoping that he will give him (Vlad or Vitali) the toughest fight he ever had. One thing I’m sure of though, he will give him more problem than Haye ever could.

secend of all he is coming to fight. He will do what other fighters have never tried-simply to fight yhe giants. And he will definetley will not lose the fight befeore he enters the ring like most of Klitchkos former opponents.

  • Ivan Drago says:

Adamek should fight Haye. This fight would be much better than any Klitschko fight.

  • look says:

First of all Adamek is 6’3 not 6’1. I am 188 and standing next to him and he was taller then I. He is taller then Arreola Peter etc.

  • James Blond says:

You have to like a boxer such as Adamek, he is upright, aggressive and talented. If Adamek has one flaw it is that he is relatively easy to hit and for the likes of the KlitschKO brothers he will of course be nothing but a statistic on their road to boxing immortality.
Look for the plucky Pole to go down fighting unlike Haye who prefers to talk a good fight but won’t show when a brother is in the ring.

Wasnt Max Kellerman the one that made that rascist comment to look for the real Hvwt champ in the NBA or NFL. Ignoring the fact that a boxing champ is a born fighter. Adamek who is a definite fighter is a bit of a chiseler too thats why hes fighting McBride and not Ustinov or Thompson!

Adamek CAN NOT beat either K brother he is too Small period.

  • Stuarty_Glasgow says:

Wether he wins or not at least Adamek will have a go and go out on his shield! Unlike some of the recent challengers we’ve seen. If Haye gets past Povetkin/Chagaev and can’t agree terms with a Klitschko then him and Adamek would be a good heavyweight bout to see. And a real 50/50 fight to!

  • Shagalang says:

Adamek Vs Haye would be such a better fight for boxing

i like the Klitschko’s as much as everyone else but i can only stand watching fights that are not competitive for so long

i will go as far as saying im bored of them now

i just previously stated against the klitschco fight adamek escaped witha narrow victory.I meant aeereola where he narrowly escaped. And with all due respect Adamek would have been far more potentialy effective against the smaller in all dimentions Davd Haye.but i see Haye winning that one also.but not so easy.i think the Hayemaker would land and make life very wobbly for tomas.

  • Anonymous says:

well I respect kellermans assesment and as said it seems probable that he is right on the money,If it is Vitali he won,t escape as he did aginst klitschco and will pay a much higher price trying to trade with them, even though the Polish fighter is as togh as they come.giveing away that size in all dimensions from wieght to hieght and reach would be as Kevin johnson found outn eisier to immagine than it is to accomplish.a huge step up to the brothers in every element of the game.

  • john says:

I think this article is dead on…..abd ther same thing can be said about David Haye. I think Ademak and Haye should fight.

  • waynewanke says:

Dont write off mcbride too soon, if he gets in shape and deploys the right tactics, he could be a good outside bet. I dont think he is a better boxer, but he has power, and can make it an ugly brawl. The clever money is mcbride in the 9th/10th. Otherwise its ademek on points(you wont get v-good odds for that).
