Fury happy not to be fighting bums, faces someone named Nascimento on 2/19

By William Mackay: Undefeated Tyson Fury (13-0, 9 KO’s) says doesn’t like heavyweight prospects fight lesser fighters while on their way up the chain, according to boxrec. On Saturday, the 22-year-old Fury faces the little known 30-yer-old Marcelo Luiz Nascimento (13-0, 11 KO’s) at the Wembley Arena, Wembley, London, England.

Fury may not like heavyweight prospects fighting bums, but he recently called out Audley Harrison and was trying to get a fight against 42-year-old Francois Botha up until the BBBofC said no to that idea. Perhaps Fury sees Botha and Harrison as outstanding fighters. In that case, you wonder whether Fury is aware of how badly Botha and Harrison have been looking recently.

In an article at boxrec.com, Fury said “It angers me when you see so called heavyweight prospects keep having bums put in front of them every time. I don’t want to go through my career like that, I want to show them how it’s done, so I’m taking on this guy who has an unbeaten record and is a massive puncher, this is what you have to do to become a star.”

It doesn’t matter than Fury is taking on a fighter with an unbeaten record like Nascimento. The guy has no credible wins over top fighters, so you can throw out pretty much 100% of those wins. Fury is basically fighting a guy with a 0-0 record because has been matched softly his entire four year career against a lot of fighters with records like 0-12, 1-6, 0-2,and 1-2. How can you say someone is good when these are the kinds of opponents that Nascimento has built his fluff record on?

11 knockouts in 13 fights. That’s more than a certain light welterweight former champion has in a career of almost 40 fights. He might not be world class yet, but this fight is against a dangerous opponent, and he’s mandatory for chisora next. If wlad can fight chisora, fury shouldn’t be slated for looking to fight him. Just saying.

You can’t really expect a young, inexperienced fighter to get into the ring with the top fighters in the division straight away. In another four or so years fury will be fighting at world level.

Too bad for Fury, he is not built like primo. Primo was extremely muscular for his time and even today. for a big man, primo was proportioned well.

Fury has fought bums although he has had his tough ones, think about it we are all going to have bums but thats what gets us where we are today !! we need expirience we need different styles at least fury has the guts to fight these people !

GO FOR IT FURY YOUR AN IDOL !!!!!!!!X

I wouldn’t throw away “all” of Nascimiento’s wins, just some of them. Fury’s resume isn’t all that spectacular either. They seem fairly evenly matched. You can’t expect Fury to be fighting guys like Haye, Chambers, or Peter with only 13 fights at 22 years old. Manny Steward will probably line up these types of opponents for young Tyson for the next year or so, until he feels Fury is ready to step up to a top 20 level challenger. Fury is being brought along slowly; there’s nothing wrong with that.

it is funny that fury slags off haye, he sounds just like haye, and is walking the same path as haye, fighting a load of bums.

  • Russ Stewart (Down Under) says:

Fury is a manufactured fighter similar to Promo Carnera in the 30′s (?). His size alone will win him fights in the early part of his career but then when the door is opened to the vast array of seasoned Heavyweights – that is when you will find out if Fury is a real prospect.

  • freemarks says:

there both bums. I hope fury gets a hard liver shot, so i can see his love handles shake a little – ha ha ha

  • canadian boxing fan... says:

well…the guy have only 13 professional fight, he stepping up slowly and that the ways it have to be done…and fighting another undefeat fighter is still better than fighting another guy who is 1 and 4 like you say it

  • ste says:

Prescott had no credible wins before he fought khan but he still got the job done and beat the prospect
