Erik Morales vs. Marcos Maidana: An affront to boxing
By Alex Hedges: On the 9th of April, the latest “insult fight” will take place, between the ridiculously faded legend, Erik Morales 51-6 (35 ko’s) and Marcos Maidana 29-2 (27 ko’s). These are the sort of fights that give boxing a black eye.
So on April 9th, Morales enters a ring with a man who might as well be decades younger than him, in Marcos Maidana, the final end to Morales storied career seems unavoidable. Maidana is a man, whom would not have lived with a prime Morales, they are leagues apart in terms of natural talent, however Morales is so incredibly shot that he cannot hope to outbox Maidana, meaning he can no longer even be considered an outsider to defeat such a limited and predictable opponent.
The fight is an insult to boxing, as all of these sort of mismatches are, expect Maidana to give Morales a terrible beating, probably forcing Morales to quit, and hopefully realize he should never go near a boxing ring again. It’s a shame that Maidana has decided to take this fight, rather than face an opponent with a slight possibility of being competitive, especially after Maidana gave a good showing against the young, up and coming Amir Khan in his last fight, it would have been much better to see Maidana face off against Juan Urango, Andriy Kotelnik or someone of that calibre than a used up old featherweight who offers nothing but name value.
After this fight, Maidana will have to step back up if he wants to earn another title shot, however by that time, either Amir Khan or Timothy Bradley will have unified the division, and will probably be looking for more marquee fights, against Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather.

How does that crow taste? Sounds like you believe all the things the media says.
Mr. Hedges,
I really hope you have the cojones to write about last nite’s fight. I believe you owe Erik an appologize after the harshness which with you hsve judge him. You are right he is an old beatten boxer, but a true champion at heart. A guy who was never affraid of boxing the best in his weight, unlike alot of todays champs. Erik – Thanks for all those great moments man. You will be remembered always as a great champion, but it’s time to take a step to the side.
Hahahaha, goes to show what u know buddy, morales deserved the victory
What do you think now you writing hack? You know nothing about the sport.
@Gareths Sporting Insight, Alright mate, interesting name you got there, where did you pick that up from?!!
why do other people always suspect a good boxer using something? are they saying that they are more compatible than the Nevada State Athletic Commission or other doctors who are checking the boxers? are you a doctor yourself? did you even go to college? damn! get a life people!

“Never under estimate El Terrible”
Think of it, Morales will win this fight. It is Experience vs Youth. Skills vs Strength.. Morales all the way. Go Erik!!!
This fight sucks! I won’t buy this.
I want to see Maidana fight again………….. he one of the top boxer to watch right now
Morelas will come to fight…..Maidana will come to fight……..they will not head butt they will not quit and will never cry
Worst Headline Ever
El Terrible is about to get a terrible defeat.
Come on guys…. Morales has simply been fighting to the caliber of his opposition. Erik will come in with his “A” game and for you non-beleivers “Shock the World”. Morales is a all time great and future Hall of Famer. I could understand writing him off against “Money” or “The Mexican Assassin”… but come on, Maidana is such a one dimensional fighter who cant take a body shot and has such a suspect chin. Morales’s Heart, experience and natural skills will be enough to beat Maidana. I will be in attendance and will definitely take the odds and bet on Morales… Mark my words… I will be leaving the MGM Garden Arena that nightwith a smile on my face, a solid BUZZ and and a nice payday!
spot on morales is shot, maidana has heart and power. a destructive mismatch. Why doesnt the d”ck in-house box24 author mackay scream about this mismatch. Editor do your work. good article a hedges, sorry for ruining it by mentioning the d”ckhe@d Mackay.
In a way, this fight is a loss-loss situation for Maidana. He won’t be praised even if he wins convincingly.
would be great to see Morales beat cry baby Maidana…
“El Terrible” may not be the fighter he once was, but at 140lbs he will not be punishing his body to make weight and let’s not forgot, technically he’s far superior to Maidana who is a little one dimensional. Morales also has BAGS of experience and even though I feel Maidana will win Eric could makes this very difficult for him.
Do not underestimate Morales. He is still young and with good conditioning could be a pain in the .. for Maidana. Perhaps been out a few years was good to recover. However I think Chino has more chances to win but is not a mismatch. Writing such an article shows that the writer NEVER performed any kind of sport professionally.
THIS IS NOT NEW IT HAS BEEN DONE A LOT OF TIMES BEFORE, SO WHY WOULD IT BE AN AFFRONT TO BOXING??
Golden Boy does’nt care if Morales will be getting injured as long as they get profits same thing with HBO,they have short of PPV fighters and they are losing Marquez so only Khan is their star but not a PPV fighter yet.Showtime is laughing to the bank with Cotto/Mayorga and Pacquiao/Moseley fights.
They are building up Maidana after a defeat at the expense of Morales, a sacrificial lamb.
this fight may be reminicent of the alverez guerrero fight,in it for a reclamation of fame but not to be.
