By Jim Dower: Photo credit Sumio Yamada – Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KO’s) made quick work of WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (44-3-2, 34 KO’s), taking him out with a huge left hand to the head that floored Montiel in the 2nd round in their fight on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Montiel made it back to his feet but he was badly hurt. Donaire landed some more shots and the fight was quickly stopped. Montiel loses his titles.

Lucky punch? Think about it. Donaire landed same punch in round one and montiel with a poker face pretended that he was not hurt but in second round he was not able to absorb the the same punch that is why he say GOODNIGHT EARLY TO DONAIRE!
What does fighter cover up as his punch is landing. If you watch the knockout closely Montiel just landed a right a split second Donaire landed his counter left hook. My point is Montiel did not have any defense for a counter. Montiel landed his right just a fraction of a second he got decked. The only way Montiel could defend a counter is not to throw punches at all just like Clottey did with Pacquiao.

Dude, what can Montiel do more? Montiel did try to give a good fight at the start of the second, but obviously, he’s just not what he really is. This is Donaire’s announcement that he finally arrived here, and he is definitely one of the elite fighters up there. That fight showed the big difference between good and best fighters.

Why are people saying that Donaire is the second best pound for pound fighter?!! Sergio Martinez has beaten three world class recognized fighters in their prime or close to their prime. Williams, Pavlik and Cintron(we all know he knocked him out). Marquez has had two close fights with Pacquiao( Even beating him) and has only lost to Mayweather as of late and that was because Mayweather didn’t respect the agreed catch weight and chose to pay $600,000 to secure a victory. Donaire has only beaten Darchynian and Montiel. He needs to face at least another two world class fighters such as the winner of the tournament and Wilfredo vasquez. Impressive win but should not be ahead of Martinez and Marquez on the pound for pound lists

Lahr and Williams should be put on suicide watch. Someone please make sure neither are around any sharp objects. Also, hide all of the prescription meds they take for bi-polar and hater problems. They’ll probably need a couple of those little white jackets that make you hug yourself. First Pacquiao and now Donaire… Those dudes must feel like it’s the end of the world. I just hope when they accept the reality of Pac-man and Donaire being the new P4P #1 and #2, that they will give Nonito his props.

The opening round had Donaire avoiding any of Montiel punches. Donaire looked like the bigger guy in the ring. Donaire was on Montiel in the ring after a a few exchanges. Donaire had good movement. It was hard for Montiel to land. Quick counter and he was gone. I give you credit for writing a truthful non biased article. Good Job. Donaire beat a champion.

Donaire is a class above Montiel…. if they ever rematched it would be same result….. fight might last longer but same result!!!!!!!
boxers do not make lucky punches. they train for fights and make sure they land their best punch so that the best punch of the opponent does not land on them.

If there’s a rematch, then its a mismatch. Nonito is too intelligent, big and tall, fast and has power (very powerful for 118 div) while Montiel is very slow (snail punch) and short. Montiel has power but it is useless or negated once you are going to be hit first by a powerful 1000 lbs bomb (exag).
Mind over matter and that is what a ring genius saw during the actual fight where Nonito sees right away the mistake/flaws on a very short time that makes the fight a very short one.

I don’t think that was a lucky punch. That was a counter punch that came after Montiel’s right cross to Donaire’s head. I think Donaire’s team really did their homework.
Montiel get’s tagged in round 1. In round 2 Montiel got boomed out. Donaire nicely setup that punch to the head just like what he did when he fought darchinyan. Not a lucky punch at all.

That was only a lucky punch that hit montiel (my prediction of what should Darchinyan says) and want to see Donaire-Darc rematch and shut the big mouth of Darc. Long Live Nonito. Want to see Donaire fight on 122 and conquer that overcrowded division.

It was not a lucky punch. it was a well landed punch. Still i think a rematch is much needed i dont think montiel will make the same mistake twice.

Poor Fernando! Donaire needs to move up in weight and fight Juanma Lopez. I was amazed that Fernando came in weighing more than Nonito. I can only imagine if they weighed the same. The punch might have knocked him out cold.
