Abraham vs. Ward could wind up at the Home Depot, in Carson, California on 5/14

By Jason Kim: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) could wind up with home advantage in his semifinal Super Six tournament fight against Arthur Abraham (32-2, 26 KO’s) in a fight that Dan Rafael is saying could take place at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California on May 14th. Ward isn’t from Carson, but he does live in the same state in northern California in Oakland.
But Abraham doesn’t have much of a chance to win this fight no matter where this fight takes place. The fight could also take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey. They might be a better option for Abraham, because there’s a large Armenian population in the East Coast, and Abraham might be able to get more fans that would come see him and give him a little support in the fight. Abraham needs all the support he can get, as he’s lost two out his last three fights. He was beaten by Andre Dirrell and Carl Froch in the Super Six tournament recently.
That string of losses was broken in Abraham’s win last week against Stjepan Bozic. Ward is a lot better fighter than Bozic, and we’re likely going to see Abraham go back to losing again. This fight could take place in Germany and Abraham would still have problems. He doesn’t throw enough punches and his hand speed is too slow for him to catch the better fighters he’s been facing lately. Abraham needs to move back down in weight after he’s eliminated from the Super Six tournament and try to make the best of things at middleweight. He’s too small to compete at super middleweight and his losses to Dirrell and Froch has highlighted that fact.

I think Ward should fight outside of his home state. But for all the concerns over Ward getting preferential treatment from the referee, the problem would be at least as bad if the fight was in Germany (in Abraham’s favour). Realistically the fight will have to be in the US. I expect Ward to win regardless but at least we should see his head butting (whether it is deliberate or not) curtailed by a good referee.
The reason that Froch and Abraham had to fight in the morning for their home matches is not because anyone is trying to make it harder for them, but because the American TV audience is so important. It would be financial madness not to hold the fights at these times.
By the way I am English, and hope Froch can win the Super Six.

Andre Ward has graciously agreed to fight in another stadium in his home state, and in an extraordinary act of kindness decided that Abraham will be allowed to have 10 fans present at the back as long as they sit quietly.
To ensure the event runs smoothly the referee for this event will be David Ward, judging will be Steve Ward, Allen Ward and Wards mum.

You can write essay after essay but it doesn’t change the fact that Ward’s protected and that the super six is a total joke. I don’t care that Abraham is now confirmed as being out of his depth or that Kessler lost convincingly to an unsporting butter.
The fact is this, Ward’s at home AGAIN, he’s been allowed to repeatedly fight dirty in all his home fights at home in his home stadium at HOME. Can you see the pattern……………..

4th home fight in a row for Ward, 2 points for not fighting and it’ll pan out all fights are in his home state with the possibility 1 is in the next state over 560 miles from home.
Froch fought Dirrel at 3.30am to suit Dirrel and the American TV audience, same for Abraham who also had to adjust his body clock even though it was hi home fight.

This “Ward time” event, the “Ward Six” where Andre Ward fights at the “Ward Stadium” in Wardland is in no means biased.
Fighting out of Cali”Ward”nia every fight is not an implication that the event organisers “Ward time” want an American winner.
Rumours that the Andre Ward trophy has already been engraved have not yet been confirmed.

I’m a fan of the tournament and I don’t have a favorite fighter so with respect to all when all the promoters sat down in the beginning they all agreed on the venues and sites. Saurland with Kessler and Abraham aboard loved the idea of presenting their charges to the American public and this is why they agreed to more money and if you pay attention to the first round it was no coincidense that it was Europe vs the us. We just need to be honest with ourselves and the saurlands never in a million thought ward was going to take off on Kessler or dirrell vs Abraham was going to expose Arthur as being over rated and whiney. No euro fan on this site or any other site complained before the super six started about their champions coming across the pond. Because the pre-fight hype was we are the champions and a faded Taylor and two young inexperienced Olympians. Now as the smoke begans to clear they want to squash the original agreement. Why now? The facts are ward and dirrell weren’t as good as they are going to get but Kessler and Abraham weren’t as good as they appeared to be and were advertised to be. This is why Kessler shrewdly was advised to drop out of the tournament because saurland felt Abraham would beat froch and have no problems winning the super six and meet Kessler who was rewarded with champion emeritus fulfilling saurlands original plan. Well we no it didn’t turn that way thanks to mr.froch who reminded Abraham that he was over rated. Now they are whining along with their fans that hey we want this and we don’t want to do that but when you look at ward he was going to fight Taylor in Atlantic city but he pulled out and the dirrell fight was going to be at a neutral site but he pulled out. Ward is the only one who has had two original opponents drop out and their replacements green,bika, chose more money by coming to the bay area. It’s tough when things are not going as planned but the last thing abraham needs is fans who have lost confidence in him start whining about this and that and judges,refs,location etc. The simple fact is they have lost confidence in Arthur and instead of owning up to that they want to say ward gets help and he hasn’t fought anyone,he can’t punch,etc okay then from here on out no one should have a problem with ward.Arthur should get in the ring and kick his butt.

If this fight is not held in Germany then this tournament has clearly been orchastrated in favour of Andre Ward. Ward should also be keen to fight away just to prove a point!
Jetlag not good for Arthur. Not fair boxing always home. Not fair coming in with head always. Ward very good boxer. But no like his style. Like more ko-Style of Abraham. Hope, Arthur k.o. ugly-styled Ward and become star in US.
It’s ok, let the Americans have the home advantage they clearly need in order to win the fight against a pre softened opponent. Will make it all the weeter when froch stops him in the final.
This writer needs to do his homework. Glendale ca. Is a Armenian community that’s 20min from the fight site. Also palm springs is heavily populated with Armenians. Abrahams aunt lives in Glendale so he should feel at home.
This fight shouldn’t take place without neutral judges and referee. Apparantly this isn’t allowed in California. So California should be ditched.
