Why isn’t Donaire’s fights being put on Pacquiao’s undercards?

By Chris Williams: You have to wonder why former IBF flyweight champion Nonito Donaire’s fights aren’t routinely being put on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s big mega fights. I don’t understand how Donaire, who is supposed to be the next Pacquiao, isn’t have his fights being put on Pacquiao’s undercards. Both of them fight for the same Top Rank promotional company and it would seem logical that Pacquiao would stick out his hand and help the rising star as he attempts to capture yet another world title.

Is Donaire being kept off of Pacquiao’s cards for a reason so that Pacquiao gets more attention or is it just an accident that Donaire’s fights aren’t making it on the same card as Pacquiao’s? It would seem like a smart thing for Bob Arum, their mutual promoter, would put them on the same card in order to maximize pay-per-view revenue. Is it Arum who is keeping Donaire off of Pacquiao’s undercards or someone else? It seems like a no-brainer to me. If I’m the promoter, I’m putting Donaire’s fights on all of Pacquiao’s undercards in place of some of the guys that Arum has been putting with Pacquiao.

    There was an article saying that it was Koncz that prevented Donaire from appearing in one of the undercards and that Pac had no knowledge of it. And yes it was allegedly because Donaire did not want Pac’s people to be his handlers. Pac denies knowing about it and if that’s true then blame Koncz.

  • Pac Vs Donaire says:

    This claim that Donaire is a big attraction on his own is BS. Donaire is headlining these flimsy “Pinoy Power” type ppvs against overmatched opponents in fights that no one talks about. Putting him on at least a few Pacquiao undercards would give him more exposure than he could ever get on his own and make him a bigger draw. And I don’t believe the claims that Arum and Koncz are the ones keeping him from Pac’s undercards. Remember, Pac has his own stable of Filipino fighters that he’s trying to promote on his undercards so why would he give that exposure to a Filipino boxer that isnt affiliated with MP promotions??? Aside from that, I also suspect there may be some bad blood between the two. Remember, Donaire scored Pac’s fight against Marquez in favor of Marquez. And when was the last time you ever heard Pac say anything good about Donaire???

    You don’t gain anything by having them on the same card. Pacquiao alone will attract all the Filipino buyers by himself. It’s about money. You are better off putting someone else to attract a different set of buyers.

  • la la la says:

    somehow, this is correct. pacquiao is the big money maker, and this would make milllions of people watch donaire. dam man. bob arum should make them be on same card.

  • Medyo says:

    Because Donaire can draw on his own and putting him on Pacquiao’s undercard would mean less money for him and Arum, stupid. Donaire will be getting a piece of the pay-per-view on his next fight so why would he even want to be on Pacquiao’s undercard?? Stupid!

    mr kanto boy… you’re wrong! chris wrote somewhat not biased but the ulterior motive is to pin point pacquiao was the culprit why!?!

  • Joe says:

    if you think you are better that Arum, then why are you so poooorrr compared to arum?

  • KantoBoy says:

    @Chris
    Wow for the first time, you don’t seem biased. Cheers

    If you would ask Pacquiao, he would surely put Nonito’s fight under his. 101%. But It was Koncz and Arum that preventing it happen from some reason. They just got too greedy and wanted people to pay for both separately. It’s all about money. I just wonder…If Arum dies(pretty soon it seems), what will he do to all of that money in the bank? All of that good stuff will be nothing…poor old man….
