Tyson Fury to appeal 42-year-old Botha ban
By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten British heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury (13-0, 9 KO’s) isn’t happy that his February 19th fight against the 42-year-old Francois Botha (47-5-3, 28 KO’s) has been blocked by the British Boxing Board of Control. Fury, 22, and his promoter Mick Hennessy plan on appealing the ban. Hennessy had this to say in thesun.co.uk, “Decisions like this are killing the sport. I’m told it’s because of Botha’s age, yet George Foreman won the world title at 45.”
Instead of appealing the decision, Fury needs to try and fight better opponents. Fury is reportedly looking at facing 44-year-old Matt Skelton or 37-year-old Kevin Mcbride instead. Fury might be better off seeking out some of the top British heavyweights like David Price instead.
Fury might end up as a good heavyweight someday but he needs to be brought along with guys that can actually test him, not old fighters that are only capable of soaking up punishment.

Basically, Fury’s been stopped from claiming another easy scalp and he’s not happy.
Maybe he should fight David Haye, they’re both as bad as each other.

“Why wont they let me fight an old man”?
Russell, because Frans Botha has been taking too much punishment in his career and the medicals are much stricter in Britain than some other countries. It is an ethical decision and no one wants to see a former boxer end up as a punch drunk imbecile in later life.
I think the British Boxing Board have made the right decision.
Botha was winning that fight five rounds to zip – he’s still a very decent heavyweight, and certainly better than McBride and, for my money, Skelton.
Fury should’ve just dropped the decision and moved on to another opponent. It’s not worth antagonizing the powers that be in the UK. He has a point, but the decision could also be a subtle message to British fighters to fight British opponents in Britain. On the other hand, at 22, Fury has plenty of time to step up, and valuable lessons can be gained from old timers. That’s why Manny Steward wants Tyson to take on some “safe” older opponents.
