ower: Number #12 ranked WBO middleweight contender Craig McEwan (19-0, 9 KO’s) says he’s going to be sparring with unbeaten World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KO’s) to get ready for Andy Lee (24-1, 18 KO’s) on March 12th on the undercard of the Dzinziruk vs. Sergio Martinez fight in Connecticut. McEwan, 28, already has the slicker boxing skills compared to Lee. But with Dzinziruk sparring with him on a daily basis, McEwan won’t be able to hope but to get better and possibly beat the 26-year-old Lee.
McEwan said “This will be the first time I have had a proper training camp before a bout and I expect to step into the ring better prepared than I have ever been. I will soon start sparring with top Ukrainian Sergiy Dzinziruk who will fight Sergio Martinez for a world title [the WBC middleweight crown] on the same bill.”
This is a really tough one to call. On the one hand Andy Lee has power but McEwan looks to have a good chin and probably better boxing skills and a little more in the tank. Both fighters can be quite vulnerable in defense McEwan a little more with his guard down fighting style. McEwan seems to have a better work rate. I think it is going to be an enjoyable for the fans and either a KO for Lee or points win for McEwan. Good luck to both.
