Khan will likely never face Matthysse

By Dan Ambrose: Boxing fans may be excited at the prospect of seeing Argentinian knockout artist Lucas Matthysse (28-1, 26 KO’s) face WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) in what would likely be an exciting fight – at least on paper – because of the way that his fight would mimic Khan’s fight with another Argentinian fighter Marcos Maidana. Unfortunatley, a fight between Matthysse and Khan will likely never occur, because Khan’s management aren’t eager to put him in with sluggers for some reason.

And also Khan says he wants to move up in weight to the welterweight division to try and get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. if Khan can beat the winner of the Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander bout and unify three of the four titles. Khan won’t have all of the titles, because that would require him sticking around and facing the winner of the Zab Judah vs. Kaizer Mabuza fight, and Khan doesn’t plan on doing that. Khan wants to move up to welterweight and chase a fight with Mayweather.

Khan will likely fail at getting a fight with Mayweather and will have to be content with facing a beaten up 40-year-old Shane Mosley and possibly a fight against Andre Berto. I seriously doubt Khan will face Berto, because that guy can not only punch but has fast hands as well. Khan will probably pick and choose fighters and not focus on belts, and just look for winnable fights. In the end, it may be a wasted trip for Khan because other than an old Mosley, there’s no reason for Khan to move up in weight if Mayweather won’t fight him. But as far as a fight between Khan and Matthysse goes, that fight will likely never happen in this life time, just as a rematch between Khan and Breidis Prescott and Maidana likely will never happen either.
