Hatton vs. Alvarez: Is there a chance Matthew won’t get brutally knocked out by Saul on 3/5?

By Scott Gilfoid: The way I see this fight, Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) has about a zero percent chance of finishing this fight on his feet against the hard hitting WBC Silver junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) on March 5th at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California.

It’s not that Alvarez is a great fighter, because he’s pretty limited in terms of boxing skills. He’s slow, defenseless, and utterly inexperienced. But Alvarez can punch with his right hand and Hatton, 29, is little more than a European level fighter with little power, speed or boxing skills. He’s incredibly beatable, not just to a limited slugger like Alvarez, but to a whole bunch of fighters in the welterweight division. But by putting him in with the bigger, stronger 20-year-old Alvarez, I see nothing but bad things coming from this for Hatton.

It’s sad that Hatton doesn’t see it. I kind of see it as a lottery-type gambling move by Hatton. He seems to be willing to bet that he can pull off a once in a lifetime upset that will make this risk worth it.

In a press release sent out today, Hatton said “It is a big step up in class for me, but I have proven myself at European level and I am ready to move on. I will take on all-comers and the experience I have of fighting in big Las Vegas bills on my brother’s undercard will be a great help. I am going there to win and prove that I belong in world class.”

It’s so sad. Hatton has no chance of winning this fight, and he seems to be the only one that doesn’t realize that he doesn’t have a chance in this fight. Hatton is more at home beating limited fighters like Roberto Belge, Gianluca Branco and Yuriy Nuzhnenko. Those are guys Hatton does well against, but not sluggers and especially not a hulking brute like Alvarez. This is going to be a massacre on epic proportion’s.

hatton has a chance of winning this fight. alvarez has great potential but right now he is not all that great of a figher. he wont be knocking out hatton he might win but hatton wont get destroyed. alvarez still has a long way to grow.

I was reading boxrec the other day and I came across a fact that really made me delighted.
Did you know that it’s a fact that Froch beat Dirrell.
    Isn’t like wonderful.

Although I don’t agree with mr. gilfords opinions on the other british fighters he seems to hate, I do believe that Hatton will get annhilated by Saul Alvarez simply because he has reached his level and Saul has just started.

Great props for Hatton for taking such a dangerous fight against a future great !!!

Hatton will lose by late stoppage or decision but his stock can only go up from making a big fight

however Hatton has been the underdog for the last 3 or 4 fights and he has won them all … maybe this is his Kostya Tszyu

as much as i hate to say it, and hate isnt probably anywhere near a strong enough word.

i have to agree with gilfoid on this one.

not a good piece of matchmaking by hattons handlers, big up to matthew for taking this one, but it’s one hell of a stepp too far.
alvarez is going to be way too powerful and will no doubt end this one in the first few rounds.
anywhere past 6 rounds and hatton deserves double his fee for the fight.

Thanks Scotty, I wasn’t sure how to view this fight but now with your invaluable insight I can see Hattin stands about zero chance. You’re a breath of fresh air – keep up the good work!
