Fury could fight Skelton or Kevin McBride next

By Sean McDaniel: With the British Boxing Board of Control refusing to sanction unbeaten heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury’s fight against the faded 42-year-old Francois Botha (47-5-3, 28 KO’s) for February 19th, Fury is now looking at facing either 44-year-old Matt Skelton (25-6, 20 Ko’s) or 37-year-old former Mike Tyson conqueror Kevin McBride (35-8-1, 29 KO’s) next. It’s hard to imagine that the BBBofC would agree to sanction either of those fights, because they are just as bad as the Fury-Botha fight.

McBride may have beaten Tyson and sent him into retirement in 2005, but McBride has now lost four out of his last five fights and he’s far too heavy and faded to give much of a fight against Fury. This is essentially a wasted fight, one where Fury would be getting a name on his resume but he wouldn’t be getting anything out of the experience.

The same goes for a fight against 44-year-old Skelton. He may have been a halfway decent fighter five years ago, but he’s lost four out of his last seven fights in the past two years and he’s clearly not the same fighter he once was. Recently, Skelton has been fighting three round fights for some reason. This would be like a backwards step for Fury. I can’t seriously see what Fury can get from facing guys like McBride and Skelton. Fury would be better off going backwards and fighting John McDermott for a third time, because at least he can fight a little.

Fury was really disappointed by the BBBofC not approving of Botha. Fury sees him as a better opponent than a lot of the others that have been mentioned. I don’t agree. Botha looked horrible in his last fight a year against Evander Holyfield. It looks like Fury has set an incredibly low bar for himself.

This is a good matchup for the two. Skelton is a tough son of a b! Catch the fight between him and Chagaev not to long ago. Good fight for Britian unless Skelton is encouraged to “hold back”.

Isnt skelton still in jail though???

Fury is a great prospect. He has a good jab and moves well for a man his size. He does a lot of things right. Botha had 3 fights in 2009 against guys with winning records. Thought it was a good matchup for Tyson. Fury is only 22.

Try Alex Leapai from Australia and stop fighting past fighters looking for a payday

Skelton and Kevin need to fight each other and Tyson Fury need to fight someone like Chazz, Fres or Harrison to fight this guy. Fury in to fight the best, not no faded fighter.

I’d forget about McBride; he’s listed as an Irish fighter, and he lives in the U.S. Skelton is British and would thus have more of a chance being sanctioned by the BBBC. Fury doesn’t raise or lower the bar, Manny Steward does, and he wants Tyson to fight an old, expereinced opponent. There’s nothing wrong with that; Fury’s only 22, and he needs more time to develop his skills. Manny may not put Tyson in with a top 20 opponent this year.

Fury sucks, couldnt come close to winning against the klitchkos. not in the same class. needs about 10 more fights to come close.

Not counting Holyfield, Botha’s previous three opponents had a combined record of 66-22-4. McBride LOST to 20-29-2 Zack Page (two of the judges had him losing every round!) whom Fury just beat. Skelton has a better record than McBride but is OLDER than Botha and has lost more! I feel sorry for Botha, losing to Holyfield isn’t shameful.

I cant understand why they are trying too line up these opponents for Fury? Botha is in a sorry state, as for Mcbride, he beat a faded, disillusioned and broke Tyson and thats it. As for Skelton, he is one of the most boring, uninspiring fighters i have ever seen, and that was years ago. There are better fights out there surely?
