Image: Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao: Detailed Reasoning For Not FightingBy Jose Mendoza: Now I’ve read a lot of articles and reasons why all the fight fans think that the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight has not happened yet and to be straight forward I find it very irritating. It shows me that there are real boxing fans and there are people who just look at boxing which is a very big difference. So I’m going to very detailed give you my opinion on why the fight has not happen and the only way it will happen. Since Pacquiao’s destruction of Oscar De La Hoya on December 6, 2008 his name has become the most popular in the sport of boxing and that’s something we can’t argue about not one bit.

He’s been undefeated since then and every opponent that has stepped in the ring with him has not left in the best of shape except for Joshua Clottey. So now the world has been screaming for a fight between Floyd and Manny but it hasn’t happened yet. You hear people say that Floyd Mayweather is scared and ducking because he doesn’t want to fight and seems to be making excuses. Does anybody remember after the Pacquiao vs Cotto fight when they asked Manny 3 times if he wanted to fight Mayweather and he responded “I want to take a vacation”, “I want to spend time with my family”, “you will have to ask my promoter”, not to mention when Floyd came out of retirement and proposed that him and Manny could give Juan Manuel Marquez $1 million dollars to step to the side so they can fight and Pacquiao declined it.

So I would have to disagree, in their 1st round of negotiations Manny said that he wanted 10 million dollars for every pound that Mayweather came in over the weight limit, he chose the size and style of the gloves including the ring and all these demands Floyd verbally agreed to. On the other hand Mayweather said all he wanted was for Manny to take Olympic Style random testing done by the USADA but he (Manny) declined. The test that the Nevada State Athletic Commission does do not detect what’s in the blood the way USADA testing does. Can we all say Marion Jones, Timothy Montgomery, Shane Mosely, Fernando Vargas and Barry Bonds. Team Pacquiao wanted a 24 day window and alertness of when the tests would be, that’s not random. So after that, they were offered a 14 day window and again they declined.

Manny would move on to fight Joshua Clottey on March 13, 2010 and Mayweather fought Shane Mosley May 1, 2010. Shortly after, the question of the super fight being scheduled for November 13, 2010 was back in action. If you are a true fight fan that knows boxing then we all knew that wasn’t going to happen because Mayweather only fight’s once a year and have done so for the last 4-5 years. On the 2nd round of negotiations it was stated that Manny accepted the 14 day window and he was doing it for the sport and fans of boxing because they deserve it, but there was only one problem, that was no longer the deal anymore.

At the end of the Mayweather vs Mosley fight, Floyd stated that if Manny didn’t agree to take random testing up until the day of the fight then there was nothing for the camps to talk about. There were reports and youtube clips were all Manny says “I agreed to all the testing that he wants and he still don’t want to fight”, but never says specifically what it is he has agreed to. By saying you agreed doesn’t mean anything unless we know what it is your agreeing and agreed to. Mosley who have a prior history of using steroids accepted Mayweather’s demand for the USADA test, and the last time Shane had his blood drawn was 18 days before the fight and a urine test the day he left for Vegas. So random doesn’t mean everyday up until the fight like I read in an article that Amir Khan has said.

Publicly Roach stated that Pacquiao was freaked out by needles but we all know that he has body art. In his fight with Marquez, Manny was dripping blood and more than what was going to be required of him for the testing. I don’t know how many of you have kept up with Manny from the early parts of his career, but do we not remember this is same guy who use to get KO’d by hard jabs. Me personally find it strange when any person doesn’t want to take any kind of test to prove their innocence. Most have said that Freddie Roach has changed Pacquiao’s fighting style but again I have to disagree. Take this into consideration, Manny has never had the stamina he has now or the KO power like he delivers to these guys.

The older you get you don’t get faster and stronger unless you just already have a combination of both abilities. People like Roy Jones Jr and Mike Tyson for example are people who had both of those talents early in their career and the ending, not when they got in their 30’s. So we have to fair and respect that Mayweather and other’s who find that shaky and are very skeptical of it, which is the cause of a non-fight between the two yet. Another funny thing is that nobody finds it ironic the way Manny walks through these bigger guys punches like it doesn’t bother him. True indeed that he is more exciting in the ring than Floyd but here are the differences. Manny is quick and throws a volume of punches, can’t fight going backwards and has no type of defense.

Mayweather on the other hand has the speed, defense and can fight going in any direction with marvelous ring leadership. Mayweather is more like a Snake who stalks his prey before really attacking while Pacquiao is a tiger who goes in for the kill immediately. On May 7, 2011 Pacquiao is set to take on Shane Mosley which is going to be a disaster because Mosley does not have the skills he use to that are needed for a fight like this. So all I can say on my behalf of the whole boxing world is “Manny just take the test so this fight can take place”.
