Double “M” In 2011: Mayweather vs. Martinez

By Reynaldo Sanchez: The calmness, fewer frequent in the Floyd Mayweather field after his fight with Sugar Shane Mosley, it seems that it’s putting his face out and smiles at the boxer from Grand Rapids. MI. The last news, they suggest that ‘Money’ Mayweather will leave behind the legal problems that he has, and this situation, it indicates that perhaps this year we should see the undecided fighter expose his record (41-0-0) 25 KO’s.

The question is, who will be the rival chosen by ‘Money’ to make the annual fight that, from 2007 Mayweather carries out every year. In 2009, he faces the Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, in 2010 he defeated Mosley and during 2011 the world of boxing hopes to see it facing Manny Pacquiao or Sergio Martinez.

The potential of facing any of these two fighter, are determined to the quantity of money can produce these fights. Also, another machine of money, the Filipino Pacquiao influences categorically on this matter. Let’s see.

Clearly, the fight that will make major money is Pacquiao-Mayweather, in spite of that. It’s the least probable fight of reaching. If we see the things with less emotion, we will understand that the boxing is a business, and due to this. Those who have invested money want to get as it is normal, huge benefits. Let’s forget the fear, which doesn’t exist in the real boxing. The important thing is the money. The victories and defeats are insubstantial, there are numbers that the historians were using to compare performances, and this will be only his real value.

The fights, in this stage for the elite’s boxers, are beyond crowns and world titles. Sergio Martinez affirms; “there comes a moment in which a boxer already does not need so much the world titles. At present, Pacquiao can fill a stadium although he fights with another boxer without having in line any world title. I hope to be soon in the same level, and possibly by the ends of 2011 be able to reach this status. ” The victories and defeats, they are translated in more dollars or less dollars.

On the other hand, those who without being Organizations as the WBC, IBF, WBA, or WBO, have an enormous interest in those fights, are in fact, who decide when, where and against whom the elites boxers fight. The TV nets came to the boxing of the hand of the PPV. Few people can remember now, when they transformed in the owners of the boxing, but they all know that they are.

Does this situation lead us to asking us, the Organizations are really necessary? If we take Martinez’s words as true. The response is NOT!! Well, that is arguable, not all the boxers are at the level of Martinez, Pacquiao and Mayweather, but, for fights as which these boxers might make between them, the crowns or titles are not necessary. There are at the end of the day unnecessary expenses. Why would Mayweather or Pacquiao have to give any money for fighting for titles or crown to those Organizations, if the reality is that they have no value for them? It would be illogical.

In this point, what fight has more chance to be a reality? As I can see, the most reasonable fight is the double M, Mayweather-Martinez. There are here many reasons to believe that the megafight Pacquiao-Mayweather is not possible and those reasons are the following ones.

First of all, the money, Floyd Mayweather will impose his conditions in a possible fight with the Argentinean. Surely he would take the biggest part of the cake.

The fight will be making in 154, not stranger weigh for Floyd, in the past he face Oscar de La Hoya in super welter, Martinez, a middleweight will lower from 160 to 154, a weigh more comfortable for Floyd.

In case of Martínez win, surely there will be revenge. This guarantees at least 2 big fights for Mayweather, and obviously a lot of money in both fights.

Nevertheless, it’s reasonable that mention for what I think that the fight Pacquiao-Mayweather will not be possible; first of all, the money of course. Pacquiao and Arum will not want to split the cake 50/50, this is the principal reason.

Then, the ant-idoping control, Mayweather will try to impose the type of control that he imposed to Mosley, they will not reach an agreement in this and nobody will yield in their position.

Now, the most important matter, Arum doesn’t want to negotiate with Floyd Mayweather, a defeat against Mayweather, does not guarantee revenge and the value of Pacquiao would diminish drastically, harming his business and profit.

Another possible fight Martinez-Pacquiao is little less than impossible. The weight is a determinant factor; I doubt that Martínez could lower less than 154. Sampson Lewkowicz, talk on this fight “ Martinez would have to cut a leg, to come to 147 ”

After all, I think that the fight that we will see at the end of 2011 will be the double M, Mayweather-Martínez. Possibly many think different and I don’t blame them, in spite of that, even a space stays for the mega-fight, but, from my perspective it is very small. We have as I see a big fight before the end of 2011, Mayweather and Martínez will be an extraordinary fight, the fans we want to see these fights, the best against the best, with titles or without them.

Another dreamer ! When you write about Mayweather fighting in 2011 – it’s that your daydream. When you talk about double-M Martinez-Mayweather , it’s fantasy. Get real !!!

Mayweather is choosy b?tch! He will choose someone he sure he can win by points …41-0 + more of cherry picking fights .

  • don@london says:

There’s absolutely no way on this earth that Mayweather would take a fight with Martinez and i’d be prepared to bet my house and life savings on that!

  • OYOYW says:

This Double M fight would be a good match up. It would be a toss up on who wins I would go for Martinez to KO Mayweather by the Eight Round

    @Da truth

I dont think Floyd is scared but i think he cares more about the 0 on his record than being involved in great battles.

Lets face it a lot of the greats have losses on there record.
Floyd is a selfish guy the 0 is for his own pride.

I think Floyd would be held in higher regard if he fought Paquiao win or lose!!

  • Fightgame24 says:

    @Da truth

    I do agree

It is about the money now, but i think Floyd is more guilty than Pac for avoiding fighters and picking the right time to fight them.

  • da truth says:

    @fightgame24

ok ill give you who he avoided but he still fought solid fighters instead i mean its clear mosley is shot now but no one thought so befor the fight when zab was still a threat they fought when hatton was unbeaten and considered one of the best they fought and so on and so on pac avoided some fighters too but i would not call him scard and he faced weaker fighters then floyd i think its just about the money on both parts it has to be worth the risk

  • Micky says:

    ARIZA=DRUGS

  • Fightgame24 says:

    @Da truth

The proof is there to see it is not so much who he has fought but who he hasn’t?

Marquez was weak due to the weight gain which Floyd knew and it was clear to see how badly it affected Marquez one of his worst outings.

Mosley is shot no doubt and Manny should not be fighting him either so dont think im a Floyd hater!!

Floyd avoided Sugar all his career?
    Floyd would not fight Cotto?
    Floyd would not fight Margarito?
Floyd would not fight Paul Williams?

These are all facts so how much proof do you want?

  • Fightgame24 says:

I am getting bored reading posts on Floyd Mayweather and im sure deep down the hardcore Money fans are too.

Mayweather needs to fight Paquiao to secure his legacy win or lose (fact),but i think Floyd cares more about the 0 on his record than taking a dangerous fight with Manny.

As for Martinez this fight would be too dangerous for Floyd or Manny,Martinez would destroy both!!!

  • da truth says:

i think befor you say something about floyd in picking safe fights look at his past fights most of his career he has fought top fighters and a couple of unbeatens so how can any one say he is scard to fight a danger fight can any one prove it cause i cant

  • the bradguy says:

In 2005, maywetaher went up to 147 lbs and subsequently NEVER fought a legitimate top 147 pounder to this day over 5 years later!
Now in what world would maywetaher EVER fight the big dog at 160 lbs, Sergio Da Sex Martinez?
Only in fantasy world, that’s where, you dolt! Not even at catchweights.

  • Neire says:

since manny moved to the 135′s and above he has never faced any fighter that has looked good. They all came from losses and to make it even worse they were handicapped just toseal the deal..
I dont like Floyd but I give it to him… he’s faced this guys at their comfort…ODH at 154, Corrales, Castillo, Judah(when Judah was good, Marquez, Genero hernendez etc.
=====He was supposed to fight Cotto after Gatti but Cotto decided to fight for the WBO instead of facing Floyd as a mandatory
+===Then he called out Mosely in 1999, 2004, 2005 and mosely ducked talkin bout vacation and a tooth ache etc… he embarassed Baldomir with a hurt right hand while Baldomir was the undisputed champ……
Guys ps quit with all that woofing..
Martinez vs Floyd would be a blockbuster and even if Floyd wins Manny will not fight the looser coz its a sure loss for Manny.. I bet on it

  • kid dynamite says:

meant to say ‘doesnt mean he isnt a brawler’

  • kid dynamite says:

    @lefty
manny is a fighter/brawler, he aint the greatest of boxers but because he likes to get in there and fight is why people want to see him as he is exciting to watch. now just because he turns his man and cuts ring off etc doesnt mean hes a brawler as thats what boxers are supposed to do, only some do it better.end of the day people are split with regard to boxers and skills, mayweather is a great boxer as he was boxing in his nappies and pacman is a great fighter which is why i like to watch his fights…in light of these facts it all comes down to style make fights…fighter vs boxer

  • Jon Bovi says:

pac smells, he isnt gonna fight anyone coming off a good performance. I cant believe the boxing world has to deal with this fraud for 6 more joke fights.

  • manila stinks says:

The pacroid needs to cut down those orange trees at his back-yard first b4 dreaming of fighting floyd, the roid-free great.

  • lefty says:

    @ Arc of boxing
Brawler? you’re insight is flawled. you call a boxer that moves in and out, and turns their opponent a brawler? C’mon, you need to get your eyes checked! bro.

  • lefty says:

PBF will not fight Martinez, Sergio is a big, versatile boxer. There is little to gain in fighting Martinez. LESS $$$ and higher chance of loosing his “O”

  • Joe Blow Low says:

As soon as Manny Pacquiao signs up to fight somebody, Floyd will come out and start yapping and showing himself out on the open.

Well, the coast is clear for the meantime, Manny is preoccupied with Mosley so Floyd is free to roam around.

Open your eyes people…that’s the way of the coward like your Floyd Mayweather jr.

  • floytergeist says:

if he wants to keep his “0″ then martinez is a good choice

  • floytergeist says:

what make you think floyd will come out and fight martinez

fighting smaller pac for bigger pay
    or
fighting bigger martinez for smaller pay

  • Cashcow says:

one thing that people don’t realize is this, a coach follows a boxer to the ring and thinking that his boxer will win but at the end of the day they end up failing. In other words i think all of us are saying our opinions. but you have to know that Floyd has the best game plan. Unless you knock him out if not and the fights travels to the last end. Dont think about it again because he will win by points.

  • Serg says:

No way Floyd fight Martinez. He got all scared when margarito called him out. He couldn’t even concentrate he just kept flinching and looking around. Martinez can box and
Has power. To dangerous he will retire and his fans will Say cause his women beating habits.

  • Serg says:

Mavilla kos floydie in round 7 or 8. He won’t tire and he’s a moving target. But I put my money on Floyd fighting m Hatton or j Chavez jr.

  • hebron says:

Some guys is better u don’t comment because you only insult floyd withouth reason, arum don’t want manny to fight floyd and remember floyd is not insane he won’t do what arum wants ,no compromise no fight.

  • boxing purist says:

FLOYD IS ON PEOPLES MINDS TOO TOO MUCH …LIKE KOBE..ONLY THE VERY BEST PEOPLE ARE SUBJECTED TO SUCH CRITISISM….YALL PEOPLE ARE THAT SAD MATE…

  • BL1978 says:

If I were at Martinez shoe, I should just move up in weight rather than draining myself to get beaten. But oh well, We all cry for that dough. I guess his willing to wait another year to get that fight, he should just start his diet now. The sooner the better……

  • Arc of boxing says:

Floyd vs Manny will never happen not because Floyd is afraid, but rather is about money and drug testing and arum. As long as Arum is alive the fight will never happen. Floyd still wants 60-40 and random drugs test. And random test is the starting point to negotiate. Floyd won’t even discuss money without random drugs testing being in place.

In the end Manny’s mystique might be over soon. A lost or give decision against Mosley Manny vs Floyd never will happen.

Steroids are keeping Manny undefeated for real.
A brawler like Manny will never beat Floyd. If Manny is so good agree to random tests and prove that you can beat Floyd.

Floyd doesn’t have to prove anything, he is still undefeated.

  • tbone says:

well we know one thing, if mayweather fights martinez, he wont ask for a catch weight like that other coward

  • BL1978 says:

As I said you guys should stop hating Floyd, his actually helping the sport of boxing as well as Pacman to gain more publicity. That’s why Pacman praise him most of the time. co’z once Pacquiao faces him and the Pacman wins the fight, his career is over. Nothing more to prove, then we’ll have to of the best fighter in our generation disappear. Who would love to watch a pacquiao fight after he wins against FMMJ, think about it??? It sucks does it..

  • elgato says:

its Manny who would never fight someone who he thinks can beat him. Floyd has better opponents in his resume. Floyd has more prime opponents. Manny best win is still old MAB.

Don’t believe me tell who is better than Barrera that Manny has faced.

  • Juice says:

This is EXACTLY what you Pac fans said before Floyd ran up on Mosley. Just because Pac can’t fight Martinez don’t mean Floyd can’t. Let’s just wait and see what happens…You never know.

  • MoneyPack says:

Floyd is done boxing. Martinez had already called p*ssy boy out but Floyd ducked as usual. What’s new with Floyd? Mayweather-Maidana, bring it on.

  • Floydie Sucks says:

No Lapu Lapu, I think its more likely a Mayweather/Montiel match if Montiel wins against Donaire at a catchweight of 143.lbs. So Montiel has to jump from bantamweight to 143 lbs to be a slow and bloated Montiel…..Montiel is Floydie’s kind of opponent.

  • Anonymous says:

Fm jr will never fight any fighter that has the remotest chance to beat him ……………Mosley had him but then laid down it appears that was the script

  • Lapu Lapu says:

Floyd Jr will not fight Martinez at his prime. No Sirr….. If you want a double M. Mayweather/Maidana would be a possibility at a cathwieght of 143 lbs. Again Floydie will cheat on the weights anyway and just pay the penalty.
