Bute-Magee: Lucian needs to start stepping it up after this fight

By Jason Kim: IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (27-0, 22 KO’s) has yet another dull title defense in his next fight when he takes on number #8 ranked International Boxing Federation contender 35-year-old Brian Magee (34-3-1, 24 KO’s) on March 19th at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada. Bute, 30, is literally aging as he fights one sub part contender after another without attempting to break out of the mold and stepping up and facing someone that can actually fight and perhaps test him a little.
After Bute finishes destroying Magee, he really needs to try and fight someone who can really test him. It would be sad if Bute’s entire career is spent just fighting the weaker contenders that the IBF has ranked. Instead of looking to get a good money fight and prove that he is the best fighter in the division. I think Bute was the best fighter at one point, but his skills are starting to deteriorate with age and the soft competition that’s being fed to him fight after fight. Right now, I see Bute ranked behind Andre Ward, Froch, Mikkel Kessler and Glen Johnson. Bute should fight one of those guys as soon as possible before he gets much older.

why should he step it up.,He is looking good against B fighters.
First you should know that Magee is no easy fight….Just go check the fight he does with Froch and you’ll be surprise…Bute did a lot better than Ward against Miranda and also better against Zuniga than Cloud. I could continue like that. Remember that Brinkley win againts Stevens. Steven have lost a close fight with who???? Dirrel.
Finally, if you know boxing….You should know that Bute was sparring with Glen Johnson last year and for the first time he had to ask for a pause because of Bute pressure….
Maybe Pavlik’s comeback fight could be against Bute and then the winner could take on the Super Six winner!
He’s not like Froch who get beaten by one eye Kessler, the main reason Froch is still there is because Dirrel and Kessler are out, Froch has an easy fight again Abraham a middleweight and now everybody think he’s gonna make it to the final, it’s not done yet, Froch had all the problem in the world to win again Dirrel and Jean Pascal a guy who get beaten by a 45 years old Hopkins, the only good fighter who could became champion, a real one is Cleverly, U.K. has nothing left.
