Bradley v Khan: Amir has nothing to worry about

By Alex Sharp: After watching the Bradley-Alexander fight last night I can now come to the conclusion that Amir has nothing to worry about if he fights either of these fighters in the future. People were talking about this fight as being the real decider for who rules the light welter-weight division well let me tell you that fight already happened back in December when Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana fought. That fight had everything and has since been named fight of the year but people still call Amir Khan for that fight which no matter what anyone says he clearly won.

Tim Bradley is a completely one dimensional fighter who uses his head an awful lot to gain an advantage when he fights. He does have very good movement and throws accurate punches when close but really he is a refined brawler. I thought that in the middle rounds of the fight he looked sluggish and missed with a lot of shots even though Alexander is really easy to hit. He also uses his head a lot and was often landing a punch or two and aiming his head straight at Alexanders and often landing it. Devon Alexander proved that the last fight against Kotelnik was not just a one off. He looked completely clueless and was on the back foot the whole fight and did not know what to do when Bradley threw flurries of punches. It was almost as if he was fighting Maidana the way he was backing off. He was so tense and looked so slow when trying to let his punches go. The fight last night really showed me neither of these guys have ever been in with really class opponents.

Last night also showed why there has not really been much interest in this fight with fans. A lot of people have been moaning saying the Khan Maidana fight got more attention and this fight was a bigger fight and not getting the attention it deserved. Well the proof is in the pudding. It was a truly awful fight with two really over-rated fighters. It was just really boring to watch. Now compare that to Khan-Maidana and you can see why there was so much more attention surrounding that fight with it being billed as thunder vs lightning. Well last nights fight was more like wind vs rain. If Tim Bradley got into a ring with Maidana and fought like that he would be taken out in a few rounds. Hardly any of the punches that hit Alexander hurt him, Maidana would simply walk him down and pound him.

Amir Khan could also stop him when they fight but I think a points decision is more likely. Khan is simply to quick and to big for Bradley to deal with. He would jab his head off and probably throw many more power shots as Bradley has zero power compared to Maidana and he took Maidana s best shots and stayed standing (just). These fools who talk about Amir trying to dodge Bradley next fight are on something. It is by far a much easiar fight than his last fight against Maidana. I think Maidana should go after Alexander next and then take on Bradley after he looses to Khan. Then when he beats both he and Khan should fight again just to shut all them haters up once and for all.

@ dean- Good idea! Khan v Bradley and Maidana v Alexander and they could call it “WINNERS and LOSERS” Should make it happen!!!

  • dean says:

    Just to top it up
    Khan vs Maidana II

Now I would travel across the world to watch that.

    undercard

    maidana vs alexander

all in one event wow! but we all know it will never happen

oh! bradley will not be easy for Khan to hit.Trust me this is professional ,and the rules favor Bradley,I mean Khan will be fighting a Jack in the box,not a straight up fighter real difficult for the conventional man.

    @ Raz

Yeah I’ve never been terribly impressed with Bradley either.

I think Lampley or Merchant defined him best when he said that Bradley is a guy where you can’t really explain what makes him good. He just is.

  • James says:

Very nice article! Good one Mr.Alex Sharp.

  • Zane says:

The only way to take Khan down is to k.o, but Bradley is too weak for that..

  • RAZ says:

i dont understand why bradley is even rated number 1?? hes really not that good. alexander deserved to lose, he should have went the full 12 rounds. maybe then he would have kept hes belt. maidana would batter both of them with hes pole axe style and khan will wipe the floor with him. bradleys got a cheek to even mention the likes of mayweather and pacman, he needs to come back to reality.

Khan is becoming technically sound…but I think right now he’s still very upright and methodical. Maidana telegraphed every punch he threw! And still landed a decent amount of punches, if he had any slick boxing skills to avoid punches he could’ve done better in the Khan fight. Tim Bradley has that slickness in his fight style naturally. Khan is bigger and I think a little faster than Bradley, but Bradley is used to and comfortable fighting bigger men. I see the two styles creating problems for each other…and ultimately I think whoever makes the best adjustments first would emerge victorious.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves; Khan is trained by Freddie Roach…who recognizes unfavorable styles for his fighters and steers away from them. Bradley vs Khan should be in the making…let’s just see which camp is serious about making the fight.

YOU MUST BE VERY FOOLISH TO THINK KHAN WOULD BEAT BRADLEY EASY.
YOU CAN’T GO ON LAST NIGHT’S PERFORMANCE, ALEXANDER RAN AND BRADLEY WAS WILLING BUT ITS HARD WHEN SOMEONE RUNS THE WHOLE NIGHT.
I DO THINK BRADLEY WOULD BEAT KHAN ON POINTS.
KHAN STILL LOKKS VULNERABLE AT TIMES, BRADLEY NEVER LOOKS VULNERABLE AND I THINK IF BRADLEY CAN ROUGH KHAN UP ON THE INSIDE I THINK HE WILL WIN.

    Excellent article,well done.

  • Money tg says:

Wow! some ppl dont get boxing-jus becuz 1 fight is better than another fight it does not mean
a fighter is better. styles makes fights

  • Pete says:

Khan will destroy Bradley – from what I have seen they are now on completely different levels. Khan has heavier hands, faster hands and much more variety in what he does – Bradley will be lost.

  • dsmoke51 says:

I think when alexander got in the ring and saw the lights(magnatude) like floyd likes to say,the boy froze up.u could see it. Bradley was expected to rush in with looping shots.he didn’t.he showed us he can be elusive.and adjust to who hes facing.we can’t excuse the head butts but I don’t think they were on purpose. Some styles can make a fight ugly even the most decorated fighter. Andre ward, hopkins, froch…. its how u come out and adjust to the next guy. Bradle has better D than madiana. And if Khan. Can keep it up for 12 is the question. Alexander really lost to kotelnik. My opin..

  • Mrs. Focker says:

This is how I get excited in the fight. First- I like to see how many people in the arena, Second – Fighters mixed up each other. Third – I like to see blood on both fighters caused by a punch, not from head butts of course. I tell ya!! I will get orgasm before the fight is done.

  • elbeto says:

@Bully I agree with you When you are Latino you have to be 10 times more than a Black or White Fighter to be in the Top Ten! Like Martinez BRUTALLY Knocking out so called #3 Pound For Pound!

  • jersey says:

I think maidana would beat both bradley and alexander. But Khan has just about the same skills and power as these two so I think a fight with him would look like last nites bout. Khan has fast hands and not a whole lot of power. And none of these guys could handle floyd or manny. So keep dreaming but these guys would get beat easy.

  • Anonymous says:

Sorry but khan is garbage. He’ll most likely look for Bradley in the future to unify the belts and duck everyone especially Prescott the make his way to welter weight to look for a fight with mayweather that he won’t get. I also don’t see mayweather coming back in the near future, especially to fight Kahn.. One of roaches stables because of the criticism he will get for not fighting pacman and agreeing to a bout with someone at 140. The kid just wants a pay day, plain and simple.

  • Anonymous says:

Nah Khan didn’t clearly win. he ran the last 3rds and hardly threw a punch. you need to look at it again. sometimes a full minute went by w/o khan throwing a punch. It was a draw and they should fight again. Maidana had he not pressed the fight it wouldn’t have been a fight so mr.Sharp you need to take a close look at the fight and give credit where its due

  • Bully says:

A couple of days ago, these two were part of the so called top ten P4P.

When you’re black and american, it seems like it’s an easy way in.

I can’t wait for Khan and Maidana to demolish this hype job.

  • Serg says:

Bradley should be deducted points for head butting. Everyfight someones cut because of it. Does he has a metal plate in his head or what.

  • Tim says:

god article, finally a nice article to read.

  • Anonymous says:

i must say i am not a khan fan but he will have no problem with these two fighters, they both looked poor last night

  • SugarRayDuran says:

Khan or Maidana will beat either of these OVERRATED fighters.

  • Argiboy210 says:

Bradley is totally overrated .. i saw him as one dimensional but he is far better then last nights performance

Devon looked shell shocked and neither truely wanted to be there

what made me laugh was Bradley wants a fight with Pacquiao !! he wouldnt last round 1 !!!!

Khan wins his bout with bradley by KO in the middle rounds

  • Scott MacKay says:

Bradley I think would lose to Kahn, therefore he will do his best to avoid the fight. kahn & Maidana are the top dogs @ 140

  • Rhodrik says:

I don’t quite agree Alex, I think Khan would emerge victorious against Bradley, but bRadley is very very awkward as he proved last night. He can also be difficult to hit when he wants to be elusive

  • bri says:

two evenly match boxers it sometimes looks the way it looked yesterday. maidana and khan are both not on the level of these boxers. hopefully the two bouts are set up khan vs. bradley and alexander vs maidana so the talkin in done in the squared circle. like i say people can have there opinions lets see who is correct instead of just talkin about it.
