Alexander vs. Bradley: The WBC light welterweight title will be at stake on 1/29

By Chris Williams: For what it’s worth, Devon Alexander’s WBC light welterweight title will be at stake when WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley faces Alexander on January 29th at the Pontiac Silverdome, in Michigan. Bradley has reportedly agreed to pay the sanctioning fees to have the opportunity to win that strap, although it hardly matters. It’s just an empty symbol as far as I’m concerned, as the entire boxing world already knows these are the two best fighters in the light welterweight division without one of the alphabet titles being on the line.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that these are the two best fighters in the division and whether the WBC trinket is up for grabs or not, it doesn’t change a thing in the minds of fans. It’s just one of those extra things that the HBO analysts can mention on January 29th, which will in all likilihood be immediately ignored and/or forgotten by fans. The real important thing is that these two fighters are finally getting in the ring to solve who the best fighter is in the division. I see Bradley winning by a landslide.

Alexander is a good fighter, but he’s not quite in the same league as Bradley. The loser of this fight will likely end up facing Marcos Maidana, while the winner will go ahead and face WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan. I see that as being an easy win for Bradley, because Khan seems to be more of a media creation in the same mode as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in my view. Bradley will easily beat that guy without any problems.
