Mosley vs. Pacquiao: Could End Up Being A Classic Battle?

By Edgar Solorzano: We are all aware that Mosley vs. Pacquiao will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7th. There are angry fans that say Manny Pacquiao should’ve fought Andre Berto or Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez instead. While others say Mosley still has something left and can possibly hurt the Filipino champ in the early rounds. Most Boxing experts are favoring Pacquiao for his future battle against Mosley. Whether fans agree or disagree, the ugly truth is that Mosley vs. Pacquiao is not a bad match-up.
The question everyone seems to be asking or thinking about is not who is going to win, but will the fight be worth watching? Everyone seems to doubt Mosley. Not too long ago, four months before Sugar Shane fought Mora. Everyone was saying that Mosley could possibly hurt Manny if they ever step in the ring. It was obvious that Shane Mosley had his power when he fought Mayweather, but it was his stamina the fans were questioning. Stamina could be a major problem when he faces the Filipino superstar that has the heart of a lion and confidence of a tiger.
There are three reasons why Shane Mosley could give Pacquiao a fight worth watching.
Reason #1: Manny Pacquiao has faced fighters that have poor head-movement in the welterweight division. Miguel Cotto is probably the only fighter that had good head-movement, but failed in other parts. Shane Mosley has great head movement and that could make a difference in the early rounds and possibly later rounds if Shane Mosley ends up having good stamina.
Reason #2: Shane Mosley may have few powerful weapons. But there’s no doubt that the jab is one of them. If Shane Mosley uses his jab, like he has been doing in past fights. He might be able to create distance and could set up good combinations to land that explosive hook. Miguel Cotto started pretty good in the early rounds when he fought Pacquiao. Cotto threw plenty of jabs, giving him space and distance to create some combinations. Only problem with Cotto was that he stopped using the jab in the later rounds.
Reason #3: Shane Mosley has that powerful right and left hook. If he happens to land a few powerful body shots and right hooks against Pacquiao, not only will that help Shane Mosley get a chance to steal Pacquiao’s crown, but it will give him confidence. As confidence is an important element in the sport of Boxing.
In order for Mosley to try to pull off a win against the Pac-Man, he will need to work on: foot-work, jab and stamina. He already has the power and can land explosive left and right hooks. Sugar Shane Mosley will have to be determined and work as hard as possible.
I respect both fighters for doing what they do. However, Pacquiao will most likely pull off another victory in the welterweight division. Manny Pacquiao will be too fast and smart for Sugar Shane. It’s been proven before that speed beats power, on fights like: Pacquiao vs. Cotto and Margarito vs. Pacquiao. But don’t believe what most people are saying, that it will be an easy fight for Pacquiao. It could end up being a great fight.
I believe that Mosley vs. Pacquiao will be a replica of the Cotto vs. Pacquiao fight. Everyone wonders if Manny Pacquiao can knock out Shane Mosley. Mosley has a great chin, therefore I think he may last all rounds and finish the fight. However, if Shane Mosley doesn’t come prepare on May 7th, Manny Pacquiao will win by unanimous decision or possibly by TKO in the later rounds, as late as the 11th round.
It may seem like the world doubts that Shane Mosley will get crowned on May 7th, but that’s part of being a warrior. Proving people wrong and conquering their hearts. Manny Pacquiao is a tremendous warrior that will not let any warrior get near his crown. No matter how big they are, how powerful they are or who they are, he will fight back and use any weapon to keep that crown.

I’m in the minority who believes, this fight has the potential to be great. There is no truer saying in boxing than styles make the fight, and in this case, I believe Mosley will five Pacquiao all he can handle.

You sounded like a person living in a very stressful life. The way you presented your opinion in this forum seemed like you are very mad at someone or some people. Especially with Manny and his team. It’s just only a game. You are not involved in it directly. Whether or not you purchase Manny fight on PPV is not going to make any different. If you don’t buy his fight on PPV it is not going to make Bob Arum or Manny poorer, of richer if you buy it. You are just one out of hundreds of million spectators and nothing more. Your opinion is not going to change the outcome let alone you can make any decision. I don’t believe they have ever harmed you in any way or even met you. Manny is a very successful person, a much respected individual by millions. Nothing is going to change whether you like it or not. But one thing is for sure is that it effects you in your life, or maybe your work. I can tell it that it bothers you so much when you hear that Manny is doing well and making millions of dollars. When you are at work, that feeling of hatred will pop up when you are attending customers in a fast food restaurant. If you’re unemployed, you will lose concentration when you’re watching TV while waiting for the mail man to deliver you food stamps. So, cool it, do yourself a favor, and go see a psychiatrist!

This fight can absolutely be a classic!
It’s true that Shane is like NO other fighter whom Pac has faced (and the same goes the other way).
Shane makes it to the final bell and probably loses a fairly close decision (when fighting Pacman, fairly close is 8-4 ish, LOL)
But, if Shane boxes with Pac instead of banging with him, then he can certainly pull off the upset…
PS. “styles make fights” — so, I wouldn’t look at Shane’s fights against Mora and Money May as a barometer (since they are both defensive-minded, and the fight with Mora was at 154).
This will be a tough distance fight for Pac, and those of you not giving Mosley that benefit of the doubt are going to be VERY wrong on May 8.

Pacquiao is a very average fighter, and a 39 year old man is going to expose him.
ITS IN THE CARDS, JUST WAIT AND SEE.
It’s not that Mosley is not a great warrior/competitor; the man has vast experience, excellent boxing skills and the power to go along with those. Five years ago Mosley would have killed Pacquia, but not today. There comes a point in every athlete’s career when your body just can execute what the brain is telling you to do. Shane, as much as I like him and respect him, cannot execute anymore.
This writer said it himself: “… Mosley vs. Pacquiao is not a ban match-up.” However, when you’re putting something on PPV, it needs to be a great match-up. It’s that simple. This fight should be on regular HBO.
@Topfighter, I can understand why you feel that way. But I absolutely do not feel that Pacquiao is that good! Mosely is a fundamentally sound fighter. Pacquiao is extemely fundamentally flawed. The only thing Mosely has going against him is his age. We all will see just how much is left in the tank.
Don’t judge Mosely by his poor performance vs. Mayweather. Floyd is going to make Pacquiao look just as bad.
Sergio Mora ran for his life all night long. This guy should be fighting at back yard picnics for $25 bucks a pop. He’s lousy and would make anyone look lousy.
Mosely is till fast, strong and powerful as hell, and he has some freakishly long ass arms. That is the reason he was able to connect on Floyd. Don’t you think he will connect on a fundamentally flawed fighter that has absolutely NO DEFENSE!!!

Mosley will try hit and hold,pac will hit him from all sides with 5 punch combos ,for 12 round by which time mosley will look worse than margarito if the ref dose nt jump in and stop the murder..
