By Dave Lahr: Sugar Shane Mosley has been in with them best of them in his career from guys like Oscar De La Hoya to ones like Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mosley has now won the lottery by getting selected out of a number of potential opponents to face Manny Pacquiao on May 7th. The selector was Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, who obviously thinks Mosley is someone that his fighter can beat because otherwise Arum wouldn’t have hand picked him.
In an interview by Greg Leon at boxingtalk.com, Mosley said “I think Mayweather is more diffucult…I view Mayweather as being a more difficult fight because of the way his defense leads to his offense. Manny is a lot more open to land big shots than Mayweather is and I could punch a little bit.”
Yes, I agree with Mosley. Mayweather is a much more difficult opponent than Pacquiao. Mayweather has lightning hand speed, pin point accuracy and great defensive ability. Pacquiao is kind of a primitive fighter that just rushes his opponents looking to land combinations and then run away. You see, Pacquiao likes to bum rush his opponents and he’s so hittable when he’s coming forward when he does this. He’s not helped by the fact that he has such short arms. Mayweather has got longer arms, and is so athletic. Mosley is going to be able to land a lot of shots against Pacquiao, and if Mosley still has a little left in the tank, he’s going to beat whip Pacquiao and leave him bloody and battered. I can’t wait.
But, yeah, Mayweather is a heck of a lot better than Pacquiao. There’s no comparison. I agree with everything Mosley says. I’m starting to like this guy.

Ok first of all pacman handpicks his opponents fights at catch weights and has no unique fighting style. He’s going to fight mosley at 148( pactards natural weight) for pacs 154 title? Wow really? There goes forked-tongue Lahr again! First, he says the Mosley-Pacquiao match is a “mismatch”. Then, he turns around saying Pacquiao does not have good defense and Mosley can beat him. Of course, we all know that the Siamese Twins – Williams and Lahr – are Mayweather die-hards and Pacquiao haters. Am I right, or am I right?! These two guys doesn’t want Pacquiao to win against anybody, period. In fact, if Pacquiao were to fight a mannequin – they’d want the mannequin to win!
If Mayweather is that good and everybody is saying that he will beat Pacquiao, why then is he running away from a bout with Pacquiao? The truth is Mayweather is so afraid of Pacquiao that he’d rather be in jail than fight Pacquiao in the ring!

Pac is the P4P champ right now so he can pretty much fight anyone and Arum will justify it. He could a guy named Dairy McQueen and Arum will sell it. If Mayweather fights Martinez and beats him, May will move ahead of Pac on the p4p list. This will force Arums hand then. The only reason May is not on top is because of his inactivity. He has stated multiple times that he only fights once or twice a year any way.
Floyd is an enigma for anyone fighting him, he doesn´t let you hit him so of course he is more difficult than Manny. Styles make fights and nobody has a tougher style than Floyd but that doesn´t mean Shane vs Manny won´t be a good fight, in fact I can guarantee it will be more exciting than Shane/Floyd.
If they should be stupid to do 24/7 waste of time IMO. when they do the face to face are we gonna see roach beside manny holding his hand again. what part of face to face don’t you understand roach it’s a meeting between the fighters to see how they interact between each other, to test each other. this will build interest because we could see each fighters true character in the fight. that’s drama, but no for manny roach has got to be there beside him asking ?s putting his 2cents in. stick to training let the fighters do their job roach. still some would claim it was the best 24/7 interview in the history of series or that they had ever seen.

It’s simple actually, all Pac man has to do is submit to a standard test that will emsure that he isn’t taking some form of performance enhancing substance and Mayweather will fight him.

1) Guilty people lie? Manny never said himself that he agreed to testing up to the fight, and Arum and Konctz both had conflicting stories and are both known liars. But if the guilty lie than how do you explain it when Ellerbee says that no negotiations ever happened? Or when Floyd said that 50 cent’s album was dropping later this year around the same time as the biggest fight in boxing history? That came out of Floyd’s own mouth. Do you really think he was talking about Pascal-Hopkins?
2)Pacquiao has a recorded video from 2005 when he says that having blood taken out before the fight weakened him. That was in 2005 so how is that anything different than what he’s saying now? It’s not, it’s the same. Floyd Mayweather can learn something about that kind of continuity.
3) Floyd’s drug demand always had the provision that both fighters would be taking the same test. Manny didn’t come up with that. Seriously man, stop regurgitating what you hear form people who are not as smart as you. The only person who defamed any one was FLoyd when he called Manny a drug cheat.
4) Team Pacquiao’s stance never changed in terms of what testing they would agree to. Floyd said he wanted blood tests done to test for steroids. Roach said they’d do any test. The point that got debated was the time table. Roach said 3 blood test and unlimited urine, then Floyd said “No” and said that he wanted completely random blood and urine all the way up to the fight.
5)What demands did Floyd agree to? Standard ring size? 8 oz gloves that are standard for WW fights? The only unusual demand that Manny made was the $10mil weight penalty which was justifiable given that Floyd broke weight against JMM and paid that standard fine like it was nothing.
6) The “employer” argument is the dumbest yet because Floyd isn’t the “job” that was asking for the test. Floyd would just be another employee. The Commission is the boss and Manny is fully prepared to do what the commission asks.

shane wins this fight by 10th round tko. Even tho shane is past his prime, pac is perfect for shane. Pac gets hit too easy because his defense sucks and shane is a smart boxer who will do what clottey could have done and thats simply unload on pac because pac only knows come in and try to land a punch. Shane past his prime is still too good for pac.
And Mayweather never said Pac was cheating…until Pac wanted to hold up the whole fight and try to defame Floyd for asking that they both do the random testing. When your job asks you to take a urine test, that does not mean you are automatically presumed to be dirty. But one’s REACTION is considered evidense. Team Pac originally said they were willing to undergo any test, since they had nothing to hide. Then they started changing their story. Meanwhile Floyd had agreed to all of Manny’s demands. Floyd only made one single demand. Can’t get that though. Pac’s reaction makes Floyd believe Pac is hiding something. Roach’s fighters have been cuaght using steroids before you know.
I wish it was gamemanship, but I really do doubt it. However I do agree with you that Floyd most likely did not want to fight Pac the second time around just like you said. He just got done fighting Mosley and you see the form he was in and that must have taken a lot of effort to get in that form. Plus if you watched 24/7 (and i know you did) you heard that Floyd had to catch up on taxes and not earn too much inside one year or be forced to give it away in taxes again. I have a hard time believing that Mayweather actually believes that Manny is using steroids and I have an even harder time believing that it even matters to Mayweather whether he is or not. I do believe that Mayweather feels he can beat Pacquiao no matter what.
Gamesmanship. People don’t realize that your fight with Mayweather doesn’t start in the ring but the negotiation table. He’s always looking to dictate the pace.
I believe that Team Pacquiao thought that Floyd’s demand was gamesmanship and they didn’t want to play that game. So Team Pac agree to be tested but only half as much as Mayweather wanted to. Then Floyd goes and insinuates that Pacquiao is on steroids in an effort to get Pacquiao to do what Mayweather wants him to do. Then Arum goes on vacation and walks away from negotiation like he said he would if Mayweather turned the negotiations into a circus which he did. The fight was dead at that moment.
Then Floyd fights Shane with the testing. Team Pacquiao accepts the fact that Mayweather may be serious about the testing so they agree to the 14-day cutoff that Mayweather offered during the first negotiation.
But Mayweather never had any intention of fighting at that time due to Roger’s trial and taxes (these aren’t proven but that what I’m thinking) which is why he never came to the negotiation table.
Now Mayweather is in serious legal trouble that will stall the fight yet again.
In no way do I believe that Mayweather is afraid of Manny or is ducking him, and neither do I think that Manny is on steroids and is ducking Floyd.
I believe that the drug testing was a spot of gamesmanship that got blown up by the media and the dumb fans on either side when Manny balked and Floyd accused Pacquiao of doping. Now there are some serious legal issues that stand in the way of the fight getting made.
But make no mistake. BOTH fighters will have to compromise to make this fight. It’ll be 50-50 split with a 14-day window on blood and Urine all the way up to the fight.

No, I love when a fighter wins all the time, but only when its against quality opposition. Sorry but Clottey, Margarito, and Mosley don’t fit the bill. Defend one of your belts for once against a top contender, or fight for one against the best in that weight (sorry, Diaz and Margarito weren’t that). Manny should try fighting top fighters. When you refuse to fight anyone that has won at least three straight AND is not the #1 in that division, than it is really hard to argue that he’s fighting the best or that he is one of the all time greats. Pacquiao might be one of the all time greats but we will never know unless he actually fights a few fighters with a pulse. Seriously, I am surprised he hasn’t fought Julio Ceasar Chavez Sr. yet. Maybe if their is ever a vacant middleweight title they can fight at 155 for it.

Mosley is right! The writer however isn’t! yeah of course Pacquiao is a little easier to hit than Mayweather. Pacquiao comes to fight whereas Mayweather is a counter puncher, but they are both effective at their own style. Mosley might stay with Manny for the first 3 or 4 rounds but after than Pacquiao will be too quick and have too much stamina and will win easily!
Mosley definitely is a self promoting machine for the May 7 bout with Manny Pacquiao. Of course Mosley will say Mayweather Jr. is more difficult than Pacquiao because Mosley already lost to Pacquiao. After Pacquiao deforms Mosley’s face during the May 7 bout. Mosley can objectively compare who is the more difficult fighter. Yes Mayweather Jr. will be a bit more elusive than Pacquiao but Mosley will definitely get a beating worse than he has gotten in many years. Floyd Mayweather is a more difficult fight than any other boxing fighting right now, he´s one of the best defensive fighters that we have ever seen in the sport. His natural talent allows him to stymie his opponents like no one else in the sport right now. This isn´t rocket science here, it´s such an obvious statement it´s retarded.

Seems like alot of people have short memories on this site ! When Mayweather decided to fight Mosley anyone who knows anything about boxing knew Mosley was a sure win for Floyd then . But they all kept saying Mosley was a tough fight for Floyd (this site) ? Now Manny has decided to fight Mosley and all the sudden Mosley is a bum ! Well see it is still a sport. Fans need to respect the business side of boxing.
There are a lot of broke boxers out there that either spent their money too fast or didn’t invest properly.
Fighters now are savvy to that. We, as fans, should not be so selfish as to not let the fighter make his money while he can.
We are basically faulting a guy for not wanting to be broke or walk away with the most money possible after years of getting beat up. How crazy is that?
Besides, what choice did Pacquiao really have? Mayweather is no where to be found and the only other credible fights that are left or either against other old fighters or huge guys like Martinez or Williams.

That´s pretty spot on but I´m not sure Manny can KO Shane, a decision I can see but it would have to be a late KO when Shane is completely gassed. I expect the beginning of this fight to be very competitive, Shane has limited battery life, after round 5 his only chance is a punchers chance. Keep in mind, Shane has lost 6 fights in his career but never been KOd.

How bout this? How many fights did Manny Pacquiao have at WW before he fought Oscar? Hell, how many fights did he have above 135 before he fought Oscar?
Floyd was suppose to win that fight with De La Hoya. Roy was suppose to beat John Ruiz? Did anyone say the same about Pacquiao when he fought Oscar? Not really.
Besides, you didn’t see Roy Jones or Floyd go on to fight anyone else in those weights did you? Did Floyd challenge Spinks? Did Roy fight anyone else at Heavy? No. They all went back down in weight while Pacquiao kept climbing.

I agree that from a dollars and cents point this fight makes sense for pacquiao, arum, and roach, but it’s just a little disappointing because it makes no sense at all for boxing fans, I’m not bad mouthing pacquiao it’s just as a real boxing fan it’s a let down

Do people forget that Mosley and Mayweather were suppose to have a fight years ago but never did? Couldn’t the same thing be said about Mayweather in that he fought an old Mosley?
Besides, Pacquiao only had one fight at WW when Mosley challenged him and he was suppose to then move on to fight Mosley? Would you do that? Of course in hindsight, people would say “sure, why not?” But in that time, no one blames Pacquiao for fighting Hatton over Mosley.

I agree with you. Beating Mosley doesn’t prove anything. But neither does beating a green Berto or an old undersized Marquez. None of the three opponents that Pac had to choose from were legacy enhancing opponents in my opinion.
The only people at this point that Pacquiao could face that would elevate him in terms of boxing history are Floyd Mayweather, and of course Sergio Martinez.
i think mosely is a awesome fighter, but pac will out box him, just like pac would outbox floyd. People just put floyd as great as he has a 0, but honestly if he wen’t against pac he would get outbox and exposed.

First of all floyds straight righthand is his best punch… Manny has an easier style to adapt to bc he is one dimensional lets state the obvious, each fight was hand picked for him. Mosley has zero percent chance at winning. Manny just simply beats you up. He will box with mosley and let mosley punch himself out then he,will beat his ass, but pacman gets hit a lot more,than mayweather so it should be interesting. But manny vs floyd is where its at bc manny,throws alot of punchs and floyd doesnt get hit too often, I think if it gots the distance floyd wins but manny may be too much for him
Great analysis of Pac’s skills. He’s just an unskilled lunger who will be whipped by any skilled boxer. That’s why he never fights anything other than tomato cans.If Mosley has anything left, he will be able to pull off an upset. However , I don’t think that it is likely because Pac’s team makes certain that he only fights poor competition.

Manny is a better BOXER then people think. Mosley has lost to any decent boxer he has faced. Manny will retire Mosley and have to show more mercy on him then he did Margarito. I agree with Mosley that Mayweather has a different style than Pacquiao but that does not mean much. Mosley had that one chance to put Mayweather out and he didn’t. If that is Pac and he will get those chances, not once, but many times, Pac won’t let up, not once but for 12 rounds. That is the difference. Mayweather knows himself better than anybody. The reason why he is scared to fight Pacquiao is that he knows that Pacquio can beat him. Mayweather’s silence and not confronting Pacquiao head on is a sign of him ducking Pacquiao. A lot of people has confidence in Mayweather more than Mayweather himself when it comes to Pacquiao but only Mayweather knows and that if he faces Pacquiao, he loses. End of story. He knows it.

As much I don’t like Mayweather style of fighting, his character, and his innactivity, I do have to agree with the writter that he is a much better fighter than Pacman.
As for Mosley beating Pacquia, you are dreaming. This fight is fixed. First Mosley is only a shell of his former self and cannot sustain the pace that will be required in this bout. Second, Arum has probably sweetened the pot (unofficially) a bit for Mosley not to win.
If Pacman were to lose, it would compromise the possibility of the richest fight in boxing history. There is no way in the world that Arum would allow that to happen.
pacquiao style is not primative mate. if you want a primative style look at ricky hatton not pac. pac is a clever fighter an punches from lots of different angles
