Marquez and Berto would beat Mosley

By Chris Williams: I think Shane Mosley is a terrible choice of an opponent for Manny Pacquiao, and it only makes me think that Bob Arum and Pacquiao are tuned out from what the casual boxing fans want to see as an opponent for Manny.
At least Marquez and Berto have excellent stamina and can fight hard for 12 rounds without going into a permanent state of exhaustion like Mosley. I think Mosley would do a reasonable job against those guys for two rounds, then go into permanent freeze and just play the part of an old statue for the remainder of the fight while Marquez and Berto tattoo Mosley with shots and dance circles around him. It wouldn’t even be a fight. Mosley looks totally shot, and it is so sad that he, out of all the potential guys that could have been picked for Pacquiao, was the one that ended up being selected.
It seems like the last part of Pacquiao’s career he’s being put in with guys that stand little chance against him. I don’t understand this fight above all, because this is a fight that they could have made over a year ago when Mosley still had something left in the tank.
It was only after he began to look totally shot that he was finally selected as an opponent for Pacquiao. And really, this fight won’t likely make much more money on pay per view than fights against Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito. This isn’t going to be a huge difference like Arum might think it will be.
The reason is because Mosley was never a huge star, never had a big fan base, and has looked completely shot in his last two fights. Boxing fans are going to remember how horrible he looked in his one sided loss to Floyd Mayweather and his 12 round draw with Sergio Mora, and they’re stupid enough to think that Mosley is a legitimate opponent after watching those fights.
Arum and Freddie Roach obviously are thinking that the casual fan will want to see this fight because they’ll remember Mosley’s name, and not much else about him. I think they’re going to be disappointed with the final PPV numbers, which won’t be as good as the Margarito numbers.
I do think they’ll be better than the Clottey fight numbers, but not by a whole lot. The numbers are going to be about the same for anyone that they put Pacquiao in with aside from Mayweather. But the difference is the product will be much worse with Mosley than it would be if they put Pacquiao in with Marquez and Berto. Those guys would have an excellent chance of beating Pacquiao, unlike Mosley.

They both would be competitive,but i wonder if shane could do enough to beat either?he could surprise Berto,with his style he can be hit.Berto could be more comlete if he learned to back off once in awhile.That is why berto Pacquiao is intriguiging.

I think a berto vs mosley would have been a good fight, but Marquez is way too small to fight Mosley. But I do know one thing…Marquez would still go to bat against Mosley.
The only way mosley can beat pacquiao is by putting pressure the first 6 round cuz after that he’s stamina won’t make it I rather see Marquez vs pacquiao 3 he’s the only one that know him the best but it seems like he’s scare to face him when He bring the excuse of money u have to be kidding the fight is gonna take place 2 days after a Mexican holiday Marquez has a bigger fan base than mosley and berto put together

Hey, Williams – perhaps Marquez should have called out Mosley first, before he thought of chasing Pacquiao. If he had done that, then we could rightfully say – “I deserve the fight, pendejo!” And Berto – why did he allow himself to be bought out by Mayweather? He should have fought Mosley, earthquake or no earthquake. Instead, he sold out to Mayweather, then fought an easy fight with What’s-his-name. And Berto thinks he deserves a shot at Pacquiao?! Berto has never even been deep in a fight except for one and hasnt faced tough competition as of yet and if you think otherwise please let me know who these guys were. If marquez couldnt fight mayweather at 147 what makes you think he could even contemplate that with mosley because he would get mopped up easily and mosley would bully him around the ring just because of the natural size difference.
Mosley has the potential/power, but is going to be out-punched by Pac. He’s gonna have his face battered in like Cotto. What boxing fans should want to see is PAC vs BERTO. Is that gonna happen? No. Berto is eventually gonna be beaten by the likes of JMM and then JMM will be beaten by PAC since the Mayweather fight is never gonna happen…. until PAC’s retired and Mayweather needs more money.

I agree that Mosley is more dangerous than Marquez, but he’s no where near the most dangerous possible opponent out there. Andre Berto and Sergio MArtinez both pose a much bigger risk than Mosley.
I won’t even waste time mentioning Floyd Mayweather because he’s no longer a potential opponent for Pacquiao. Money May is simply too scared to ever fight him.

Bangem this isn’t 1970 to 1990 anymore there’s a lot less Black Champions these days. The problem was back in thoses Era’s only 3 countries participating in boxing USA, Mexico and Puerto Rico. With Europeans and more Latin countries now boxing we have a global participation which has dwindle the amount black champions. Basically at higher wieghts Europeans are better boxer’s than Blacks at lower wieght Latin and Asian fighter’s are better and entertain the fans more than Blacks. Don’t be surprised if Mosley was playing old in his last fight in order to tempt Pacquiao. We all know how Pacquiao likes easy assignments, or he would’ve fought Berto, or Bradley or even James Kirkland if he wanted to really challenge himself. A Pacquiao vs. JMM III would be boring to everybody. It would end up in a unanimous decision for the Pac Man after a boring defesive fight from JMM. Nobody would buy that.
Berto is not a star. He has everything to prove before getting a chance at a big shot. He is a contender and as such should fight JMM firt.
Mosley has the experience and is a star. Trouble is that he is pas his prime since 2 years (the fight against Mayweather underlined that). The good thing is that this fight will sell and Mosley still has a puncher chance.
Conclusion, this fight is the best Arum could get now. And considering the number of comments on this fight, I would say it is already a success.

berto and marquez will beat mosley? berto will have a chance but marquez? marquez had not proven that he can win against a welterweight. if we go to the basics of matching boxers we will always consider the weight of each other and the fighters that they fought. if we consider these 2 factors now i have doubt if marquez could defeat mosley, or even his handlers and promoters will ever consider marquez to fight mosley. marquez ventured into welterweight division once and he lost and up to this time he never tried again. now, paquiao vs mosley has been made lets wait and see what happens. in the meantime, let berto and marquez fight each other and i believe the winner deserved to fight the winner of pacquiao vs mosley.

Rubbish match up. Manny should have fought Marquez who he struggled against. Mayweather is a different league to Manny. Manny would get countered all night.
