Margules speaks on Campaign for Prescott/Khan Rematch
While Colombian power puncher Breidis Prescott’s campaign to give WBA Junior Welterweight Champion Amir Khan his shot at redemption by way of a rematch has gained strong traction with boxing fans, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer still seems resistant.
For those who don’t recall, Prescott (23-2, 19 KOs) knocked Khan silly in 54 seconds in September 2008 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester.
According to Margules, while more money may lie in fighting “big name” opponents, what Khan stands to gain in facing Prescott again is much more valuable. “Great fighters take matters in their own hands and demand certain fights to preserve their legacy. I guess we will find out what kind of character Amir is by how he handles avenging his only defeat. You can read all over the Internet how much the fans agree that Khan must face Prescott again if he ever wants to be considered truly great.”
Notably, in an interview with the Daily Star, Schaefer’s boss, Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, has called a rematch with Prescott “definitely doable” and added that “It would be about revenge and there’s nothing sweeter than revenge.”
“Richard, you know I respect you and you’ve done a terrific job with your fighters, but let’s think this over,” continued Margules. “Your kid wants to have a ‘significant fight’ in the UK in April and you’ve mentioned Lamont Peterson as the possible opponent. Again with no disrespect to Peterson, but Marcos Maidana knocked out Victor Ortiz and Peterson could only get a draw against him. You’ve already beaten Maidana, so what will fighting Peterson prove? Make the fight against Prescott, one with real significance to your kid’s career. If Amir Khan is truly a great champion, what is there to be afraid of?”

prescot would destrot khan…
and de la hoya wont let it happen…
mccloskey would be a big fight! world champ v european champ, eng v ire, lets get it on!
come on this is a stupid write up, once again saying prescott would beat kahn, the answer is no as prescott as gone backwards losing his previous fights and getting schooled by kevin mitchel dispite trying yo catch him with those wild swings he got no where. Kahn had the wrong tactics and wrong trainer, this time round kahn would school prescott making him fustrated and miss. To say prescott is a bigger puncher than maidana is ludacris i think you should quit writing.
khan doesnt care about his legacy. he thinks to win a fight you have to talk about how you would win it and that’s enough. this is why he’ll never be great
There is no point going backwards now Prescott has gone down hill and khan the other way if Prescott really wants to fight khan the the best thing is win a belt go for the vacant ibf belt and then call khan out
if khan does’nt fight prescott he should face unbeaten irish european champ paul mccloskey but khan will prob dodge him cause he knows he’ll get beat..peterson looked terrible in his last fight
