Khan says he would knock Prescott out in three rounds

Image: Khan says he would knock Prescott out in three roundsBy William Mackay: Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) looked anything like a fighter that belongs with a major title belt around his waist when he was reduced to a pile of spaghetti on the canvas against Breidis Prescott in a 1st round knockout loss two years ago. Khan came out fast, got staggered with a jab and dropped by a hook. Khan got to his feet, staggering badly and was finished off by Prescott in one of the quickest knockouts of the year. Khan for whatever reason never attempted to avenge that loss.

Now, oddly enough, Khan is bragging that he could easily beat Prescott, yet he still won’t fight him to prove his theory. It’s kind of funny. He thinks he can beat someone that trounced him but won’t try and actually do it. Excuse me if I’m skeptical.

In an article at theboltonnews.co.uk, Khan said “I think it would be an easy fight against Prescott now. I would knock him out in three rounds.”

It’s so sad how deluded Khan sounds. It’s as if his feet aren’t touching the ground and he’s walking on air or better yet, walking on water. I don’t see Khan beating Prescott, and I don’t see him stopping him. It’s sad to see Khan bragging about a fighter he won’t face. Instead, he let the smaller Kevin Mitchell face Prescott and do what he apparently reluctant to do. I would believe in what Khan says if he would actually go out and prove that he can beat Prescott, but since he’s not doing it, all I can think is that he doubts himself and figures that if he talks about it enough, people won’t question him anymore about the loss. Unfortunately, that’s not how you convince people. You have to do it in the ring, not with words.

Khan recently defeated Marcos Maidana by a 12 round decision that was very close. Khan ended up getting beaten up around the face, whereas Maidana came out of the fight without hardly a scratch. Khan was badly hurt in the 10th, and continued to get hammered in the last three rounds of the fight while holding onto one of Maidana’s arms from time to time without being penalized for it. Oddly enough, the one that got penalized in the fight was Maidana himself for accidentally elbowing the referee.

Khan says “Prescott does not hit as hard as Maidana. He [Maidana] is as big a puncher in boxing has had for a long time. His record says it all.”

It looks like Khan is trying to build Maidana up because he was hurt by him. I don’t know that Maidana is a bigger puncher than Prescott. I think Prescott hits very hard with both hands. He may not be able to throw with the same kind of power in close like Maidana, but on the outside, Prescott is lethal if he lands one of his hooks from the proper distance. I’d like to see Khan prove that he can knock Prescott out in the 3rd round like he says he could. I don’t believe it.
