Kell Brook wants Amir Khan

By Jon Johns: While Amir Khan defended his WBA light welterweight title against Marcos Maidana last Saturday, another star from Britain was getting one step closer to becoming a World Champion. Kell “Special K” Brook defended his WBO Inter-Continental title against Ghanaian Philip Kotey (21-6). The fight was aired on British pay per view on the same bill as the Khan-Maidana fight.

Brook destroyed Kotey within two rounds. Unfortunately, Kotey was never in the fight, and the ref was forced to stop the action within a minute of the second round. Kotey was shaken and hurt from the get go, and soon as Brook tagged him, he hurt him. Brook knocked down the Kotey at the end of the first round with a beautiful two punch combination short right hand followed by a left hook.

This win puts Brook in line for a title shot with Mike Jones (23-0) in mid 2011, both these fighters are undefeated and both have had same amount of pro fights and their knockout ratio is about the same, Mike Jones edging it by two more knock outs. Brook is currently ranked no.1 by the WBO and Jones no.2.

After the fight Brook had a lot to say about his fight with Kotey, and hoped for bouts against Mike Jones and Khan:

Brook went on to say that he was very confident of winning the fight against Kotey, and he mentioned he trained hard to this fight and had a good training camp. He believes highly in his power in both hands as describing them as ‘dynamite’.

When Brook was asked about Jones, he was more then confident in beating the undefeated American fighter, claiming he would scapl Mike Jones, but he does admit it to be a great competivie fight between the two undefeated fighters, but there is some confusing about where the fight should take place accordding to Brooks, he wants the fight in Britain because he is ranked no.1 by the WBO and Mike Jones ranked no.2, but Jones is the champion. Brook says this is been a dream for him since he was nine years old. Brook comes from the same gym that the great Naseem Hamed came from. Brook has always looked up to Naseem, and he went on to say that he wants his own fight in Madison Square like Naseem.

Last but not least, when asked about Khan, Brook went on to say that when Khan moves up to 147lbs, he will have to face him at some point and if he chooses to fight Brook, he said he would destroy him.

This fight between Brook and Khan would be great for British boxing, but let’s not forget this was said before the Khan-Maidana fight took place, so maybe Brook has changed his mind or at least rephrased the word destroy. But one thing for sure it will be a great competitive fight. Both are young, hungry and both have the potential to be great fighters. But let’s not get excited so quick because this fight ain’t happening for another year or s. Khan still has unfinished business with two fighters and he wants to unify the light welterweight division first but this is one to look forward to for British boxing fans and the world!

I don’t know what American boxing fans know about Brook? Please comment

    @ Matt111.
You say Brook would beat Khan because Khan hasn’t stopped anyone in awhile. So I want you to define ‘awhile’ because before he beat Maidana he stopped Malignaggi & before him he stopped Salita so please know your facts before commenting!

‘who is this brook dude never heard of him’
That’s because he has never fought any descent fighter. Look at his record it’s padded with bums and journeymen. His last fight ( his 23rd) was against a guy ranked 450 in the world. How the f**k do we know how good he really is when he’s fighting such fighters?

who is this brook dude never heard of him

I say make the fight. Khan took everything from Maidana and showed he had heart. I think Lamont Peterson would be a good fight before taking bigger fights. he has given bradley and ortiz trouble he is no Bum, has good chin and some pop.

  • Badboy says:

Kell brook want Amir khan….. It should read kell brook want TO BE Amir khan.

  • Mikey says:

Matt 111″shot to Maidana proves that, but there’s nothing to suggest he has the sort of one punch concussive knockout power that Manny or even Brook has at world level.”
Mate what the Fu*k are you on about. Brook has never fought any world level fighters so how do you know what power he has at that level. His KO ratio is in the 60s and he has not fought anyone, that tells you he ain’t a massive puncher. He has only ever fought 1 fighter in the top 50 and that was stopped on cuts and he was floored against a tomato can journeyman named Karl David

    Brook is class

Malignaggi corner pulled him out and personally I don’t really count Salita as he shouldn’t have been in the ring with him in the first place. Let me rephrase slightly – Khan hasn’t knocked anyone above domestic level out at all. Not one. There’s no doubt he does have power – the shot to Maidana proves that, but there’s nothing to suggest he has the sort of one punch concussive knockout power that Manny or even Brook has at world level. My point was that I believe Brook does and its merely his lack of credible opposition that’s not allowed us to see this yet. If you look back at the fighters that have come out of the Ingle gym and look at the power all of them carried I think you have to agree its a fair assumptioni based on the looseness and fluidity of their style and the excellent balance ALL of them had – Jonny Nelson, Junior Witter, Herrol Graham, Ryan Rhodes, Prince Naseem. Brook will carry his power to world level – they all did. They could all knock a man cold with a single shot from either hand.

  • H says:

Mat 111 say khan hasn’t stopped anyone for a while…..WTF are you on, he stopped his last 2 before maidana and almost stopped maidana if he had another 30 secs.

  • matt111 says:

Brook would beat Khan now no question – better reactions and more fluid. He’s as quick as Khan and puts his combinations together better – he misses less, Khan throws a lot and misses a lot too. His footwork is far better than Khans and his defence is better. He’s got at least the same power – Khan hasn’t stopped an opponent for a while but I’d wager Brook will take his power with him right up to world class. The amatuers is nothing to go by at all – they’re both twice the size now and Khan’s style is perfect for the amatuer game.

  • matt111 says:

Totally agree with you Paul – I reckon Brook would give Manny and Mayweather more grief than any other welterweigh at the moment. He’s got the reactions of a cat and the same near perfect balance as Pacquiao – very similar style in some ways although recognisably an Ingle fighter. Not many fighters bar Manny have that uncanny ability to throw power punches from odd angles apart from Brook – heavy legs just like Naz had. Lower centre of gravity, more stable, less top heavy and astonishing power in both hands. He’s going to explode onto the welter division in the next 12 months assuming he can get a name to fight him.

  • PAUL says:

BROOK WOULD GIVE MAYWEATHER A RUN FOR HIS MONEY

  • fair but firm says:

khan very over rated. you need to have punching power to be classed as great

  • 8oz-of-leather says:

Khan stopped brook twice in amateurs! Hate to see what he’d do to him in pros! Khan by murder or t
    Gbh at least!

  • indas says:

jones is no match for kell brook

  • DEANBRUM says:

Maybe one for the future but not now, so lets stop getting excited!

    dean

  • GraniteCHIN says:

    Khan by murder…..

  • Andreas Kotelnik says:

Brook is a good fighter and will go on to win a world title. Saying he would destroy Khan is laughable though. Blistering combinations would stop Brook dead. He hasn’t fought anywhere near the level of Khan yet.

  • GB1985 says:

And here i was thinking Manny was the WBO WW Champ…..

  • jonny l says:

brook would got outboxed by khan at this stage

  • £££$$$ says:

Khan and Brook know each other from the armatures, there is a history, which is in favor of khan..

  • Mike says:

I bet if the khan haters met him face to face they would be all smiles shaking his hand, wanting autographs, taking pics, telling him how big fans they are and what an amazing talent he is…loooool….. They’re just KEYBOARD WARRIORS who would not have the balls to say anything to his face and they know it!!!!

  • James says:

All the khan haters must be DEVASTATED that they cannot legitamately use the favourite ” khan has a glass chin” anymore. LMFAO……I just can’t wait to see what they hate about khan next….. They’ll probably say he has a glass ear and it hasn’t been tested yet and once a power puncher lands on his ear it will KO him..lool…

  • raz says:

How many big names has khan beaten? Apart frm Maidana, none of his fights were hard, oh yea who cud forget prescott, but we all knw prescott aint a good boxer jus a power puncher! Anywayz bottom line is this will b a great fight and I can see either one of dem winning, but personally think brook is the better all round fighter…..he’s still undeafeated lol unlike khan, he hasn’t got a ‘You Got Knocked da Fuxk out’ on his record LOL

  • Lamont says:

Kell brook is 24 and his last fight was against a bum Phillip kotey who is ranked 452 in the WW devision. Khan is 24 and his last fight was against Marcos maidana who is ranked 4. Need I say more…..

  • Manjot says:

Kell Brook has a great chance of beating Amir Khan!

  • al maktab says:

Watch out loud-mouth Froid, King Khan will destroy you soon enough.

  • Jamie says:

Brook has fought a bunch of bums and tomato cans. He has fought one descent fighter (Jennings) and that was stopped on cuts after only 4 or 5 round I think. He has not fought any good fighter. Those who disagree with me, please list the good fighters brook has fought.

  • Steve says:

Not another fighter trying to get in the headlines by using khans name and looking for a HUGE pay day. He know a fight with khan will make him more money then he’s made in his entire career so far. By the way I like brook and think he’s quite good, but please remind me who has he fought?

  • brianmac says:

brook will murder khan hope this fight happens

  • Mr X says:

I don’t get how Brook can have a higher ranking than Jones if Jones is the champion…
