Hopkins says Pascal thinks I’m easy pickings
By Jim Dower: Photo credit: Casino/Showtime – Bernard Hopkins thinks WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is overlooking him for Saturday’s bout in Quebec, Canada. Hopkins is coming off of two unimpressive wins over Enrique Ornelas and Roy Jones Jr, fights in which Hopkins looked sluggish, slow and threw few punches.
In an article a USA Today, Hopkins said “Considering what was said and reported after (the Jones) fight, he thinks I’m easy pickings. You know what? That’s when I’ve been at my best.”
Hopkins can certainly say that about his win over Kelly Pavlik in 2008. Hopkins went into that fight an underdog and ended up badly schooling Pavlik over the course of 12 rounds. However, there’s a huge difference between the slow moving, plodding Pavlik and the fast Pascal. This is a completely different situation for Hopkins, because Pascal is so much quicker and bigger than the slender Pavlik. Hopkins had the size advantage over Pavlik, who moved up in weight to take the fight. Pascal matches up well with Hopkins in terms of size.

I guess I over-estimated Pascal’s abilities.
I’m not taking anything away from Bernard Hopkins who proved once again he is still a force to be reckoned with, but I did expect Pascal to fight with smarter tactics than he did and throw his punches straighter in clusters before moving away from Hopkins. I think the draw was as good as he could have wished for considering how the fight went.
I hope there is a rematch between Pascal and Hopkins and also Khan and Maidana in the new year.
Pavlik is as tall as Hopkins why continue making excuses for Kelly. They both were middle weight champions.
When will you all learn,(probably never! LOL) NEVER EVER underestimate Bhop!
I bet Pascal is taking Bhop very seriously.
Looks like a good amount of people hoping Hopkins loses. Notice that Hopkins never called out Dawson. But right after Pascal beats Dawson, Hopkins decides to not move up in weight and fight Pascal. The old man sees something… my guess is it’s the short arm-reach of Pascal. Watch and see what Hopkins has in store for this young lion.
BHop will get spanked and I’ll be loving every round of it.
Hopkins will be holding and hitting, headbutting, smothering those punches and it will be close. so in other words boring *ss fight as are all Hopkins fight are. But i hope he takes a whipping and retires
I am afraid BHop will realize that age factor in boxing is indeed a huge factor.
*has lost lots of respect
Hope hopkins gets knocked out or badly beaten. Chances are tho, tat we will see another jab then grab, rabbit punch, then walk around then jab then rabbit punch scenario. Hopkins should just retire already, he is no longer exciting and has lots of respect for the way he fights now. His last 2 opponents were worthless, and yes, roy jones was worthless at that stage of his career. Hopefully this pascal guy can put hopkins out of his misery.
hopkins has never been stopped, never been hurt, so thats not gonna happen.
While I wouldn’t under-estimate Hopkins, I expect Pascal to win this either by a clear points decision, a stoppage or for Hopkins own corner to pull him out if he is taking too many punches.
Sorry B-Hop fans, I have to go with the younger Pascal for this fight.
Do not underestimate Bernard Hopkins, because he is a very smart fighter. To me, he is second only to Floyd Mayweather among current fighters, in terms of ring smartness. Let us not forget the Ali-Foreman fight. Pascal still has some rough edges that need to be refined before he can be reasonably considered a top fighter.
