David Medina challenges Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Coming off the heels of one of the grittiest performances of his career, World Boxing Council (WBC) contender David “Strictly Business” Medina (22-2, 10 KO’s) was elevated to the WBC’s top 10 in the latest World Boxing Council rankings. Medina, who came off the deck to defeat a game Anthony Shuler in El Paso on September 24, suddenly finds himself in line for a major fight in 2011, and he already has his eye on who he wants next.
Medina has never fought an opponent as highly regarded as the #1 contender Chavez, with only one ESPN fight under his belt, but Ramirez is confident that the Colorado born brawler would have no problem with a high profile fight.
“David has fought on several PPV cards” added Ramirez, “and he has been eager for the opportunity to fight a top ranked guy for several years now. I know that if he were to fight Chavez the world would see the best David Medina, and I know that if the best David Medina shows up then Chavez goes home the loser.”
Medina, who has impressive wins over Shuler, ESPN’s “The Contender” alumni Miguel Hernandez, and prospects Skyler Thompson and Victor Lares, also recognizes that he is in the cross hairs of a lot of fighters as well now that he is a top ten ranked contender.
“David is the most exciting fighter in the division, he really earned the nickname ‘Gatti of the Rockies’,” added Ramirez, “and if he can get that high profile fight against another contender, or even against champion Sergio Martinez, I think that he will not only live up to that moniker, but that he will shock the world.”
Medina is currently scheduled to fight a TBA on a Zeferino Entertainment promoted card in early 2011.
