Bradley says Maidana should have been given the decision or at least a draw

By Scott Gilfoid: WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley doesn’t agree with the judges’ for the Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana but last weekend at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bradley, who many boxing fans feel is the best fighter in the light welterweight division, thinks Khan made a ton of mistakes in the fight and faded badly in the last part of the bout.

Bradley says he fears Maidana more than any fighter in the division. He doesn’t fear Khan, though. I can see why after watching Khan get drilled by Maidana.

Speaking to boxingtalk.com, Bradley said “I would have given it to Maidana or made it a draw. But people who said on TV, told me they thought Khan won. I think some of the things he did were impressive, but he got exposed.”

I totally agree with Bradley. Khan got royally exposed by Maidana in that fight. Khan was not only getting tagged with massive shots all night long, but he was also badly hurt in the 10th and was hanging on literally the last three rounds of the fight and barely staying on his feet. I’d say that’s getting exposed. Khan looked like he was attacking Maidana with his face in the later rounds. It was ugly.

I dont think Maidana won but put it this way he didnt lose. Khan was backing up and took an almighty beating. I would love to see a rematch. Maidanas face looked fresh, Khan looked like he was hit by a bus. A rematch would be fantastic, both would work on their mistakes.

  • U Know Da Flex says:

I actually thought Khan won by 2 points, but I honestly believe Khan and Maidana are the best in the division. Bradley has no chance of beating Khan and would struggle to stay up against Maidana.

for everyone dissing Khan. Khan knocked down Maidana. Maidana didn’t know down Khan. That’s not the whole story, but for a ‘runner’ Khan got a knock down, but did Maidana??? I don’t think so.

If Khan won 6 rounds, and Maidana won 6 rounds, Khan would win by 1 point because of the 10-8 knock down, if every other round was a 10-9

  • Old School says:

Long ago, a fighter that ran as much as Khan during this bout would never have earned the decision. That coward was on a bicycle all night long. Real champions don’t fight this way. They counter punch with movement, footwork, and guard. They don’t run.

  • Jam says:

And this is for you Gilfoid, how has Khan been exposed? The only thing he has been exposed of is that he has matured and can actually take a punch now. Maidana is a quality fighter and will land big shots on any fighter out there. What happened to your overated fight Victor Ortiz? He got smashed and quit like a little girly yank!
Khan might of been rocked but he fought on and didn’t go down! What’s does that say.. Khan has a heart of a lion and is ready for anyone out there now!

  • Jam says:

Khan clearly won the fight by 3 or 4 rounds.. Just because Maidana came on strong at the end doesn’t mean he deserves to win! All the way through the fight he came forward, but took so many shots as Khan performed a master class counter punching strategy. Watch the 3′s 4′s and even 5′s and 6′s Khan was landing as Maidana came forward and didn’t land a punch.. Landing punches on the back foot wins rounds rather than hitting thin air on the front foot!
Who cares what Bradley thinks, he is just saying that because he is scared to fight Khan. Bradley is too robotic and slow to even get close to Khan. Khan would smash him even more than he did Maidana and probably get the KO!

  • ashishwarrior says:

draw would of been fair i think or split decsion for kon

  • Mike says:

The thing is I believe maidana or khan will whip bradleys @$$. Bradley would rather have maidana win because of his wide overhand punches. But in reality if maidana catches Bradley with that it’s lights out. I hope Devon Alexander beats Bradley to weed out the pretenders.

  • Michael129@aol.com says:

@ Blinge- your scorecard is way off- even on Ledermens card. Maidana won rounds 3,6,7,10,11,12.. Don’t believe me look for it yourself- round 3, Maidana was catching Khan flush with the right, 6 was the round after the point deduction and Maidana comes in for the kill- landing uppercut haymakers all day- khan never goes to the body after– by 7 it was Maidanas fight.

  • wowzabean says:

Maidana isn’t some third rate sh*t fighter retard. Maidana would whoop on Bradley all day. After Bradley’s last fight, nobody’s afraid of him anymore.

  • MAIDANA WON says:

HOW CAN THE LIMEYS SAY KAHN WON? IN A DEATHMATCH KUHN WOULD BE DEAD,UGLY FREAK KAHN WAS BEATEN HALF TO DEATH

  • ADAM T says:

Im totally baffled how ppl think maidana won!

  • British Boxing Sucks says:

    Gilfoid is THE MAN!

  • Blinge says:

Look at the punch stats and khan wins rounds 1-6, 8, 9. So with the knockdown khan is already 9 points up. Maidana fought well, but he just was not effective enough until the lad 3 rounds. Khan took maidanas best shots and got hurt, but stayed on his feet. Credit to khan he clearly proved Scott wrong and me as I thought maidana would stop khan with his thunderous power. Props to both warriors

tim Bradley is correct in my observations, watching the fight three times.Maidana won.

This Pacquiao will be massacred if he fights Martínez. His move forward style is taylor made for Marvelous! If the fight ever happens, the medics should bring the stetcher because Pacquiao will be sleeping all the way to the hospital.

  • Michael129 says:

@Hitman- If I’m clueless than what does that make you- a dumd*ss. I had the same card as Lederman except that I gave 11, and 12 to Maidana- lederman gave 11 to khan. That would make it a draw if it were not for the point deduction). Joe Cortez saved Khan… Roach in his own words said “Khan got lucky” “I was going to throw in the towel”..

  • THE HITMAN says:

    MICHAEL129 = CLUELESS

  • 2 Fly says:

@ MBA I agree 100% with U! altough the point deduction was a B*ll Sh*t call on Cortez’s end at least give avwarning first terrible job for the hall of famer. Khan by a point!

  • MBA says:

Granting they won 6 rounds each, didn’t they know that there was 2 10-8 rounds for Khan and 1 10-8 round for Maidana. So if you sum it up, Khan would still emerge the winner by a solitary point. No matter how you look and score it, Khan wins by at least a point. But Maidana did damage Khan’s face at the end.

  • Michael129 says:

@ Anonymous- the right hand landed flush on Khan since the first round, at least 2 times- 4 times per round. In a few of the rounds, including the 4th round where there was a total of 5 uppercut hay-makers that landed on Khan- Khan was taking clean inside uppercuts from the inside all night.(Roy Jones JR even comments on it). Yeah- he was taking a lot of punishment through-out the whole night. Khan refuses to go to Maidana’s body after the 4th, he’s afraid of the counters to his face.

  • john says:

if i am a promoter i will take care of maidana, he is a real deal, a ticking time bomb in boxing. He is a fighter that will make a lot of money.

  • Anonymous says:

Phuck off, you backwood redneck !

Gilfraud, you are the biggest wa.ker ever to grace a boxing column, truly !

Khan was taking punishment all night long ? Which fight was this – not the one I watched ! Khan beat Mad for nine clear rounds and then got tagged, but stood up to it, despite getting nailed by the reputed hardest puncher in the division. Stop talking out of your read-ebd, just for once even !
Infact, in all fairness, Khan started to come back a bit in the 11th and was the man firing shots at Mad for the last 40 seconds of the 12th.

Khan would win a remtach a lot early, I feel … I don’t think Khan would let Mad off the hook again in the event of an early knockdown – Khan should have finished Mad off at that point, but he remained hesitant when he shouldn’t have been. It could of easily been a first round KO for Khan.

  • Nigel benn says:

    Thanks HOLMZY

    nice that someone remembers me!

  • jay says:

I like BRADLEY, like his ‘game’ attitude to boxing. Also respect him for convincingly taking witters belt in his own backyard here in Blighty. But when he does come up against Khan it will be the hardest night of his career. simply because he dont hit as hard as maidana and he sure ain’t faster than khan. height, reach, etc.. i could go on. I would back khan for that fight but thats open for debate innit? P.S… Khan won via a few bumpy moments.. Alas, its 2 people fighting after all, not one against a punchbag.

  • James says:

Timothy Bradley is going to disagree with the outcome..because now Khan has stolen his and Alexander’s THUNDER. The winner of that fight faces Khan next summer in a unification showdown. Bradley sounds scared, given these remarks.

I watched the fight 5 times and on each occasion I scored it 114-111 in favour of Khan.

WHAT THE HELL was Bradley watching?

I had Khan miles ahead before the start of the 10th round..plus he had TWO 10-8 rounds. Maidana was only going to win by KO..which he did not achieve. Thus, he lost..by a margin of 3 points on the scorecard.

Nothing else to say really. No sympathy draw for Maidana just because he had a GOOD last 3 rounds. What about the first 9 when KHAN was whooping his a*** with 3/4 punch combinations!

  • RMC says:

I doubted Khan’s ability to take a shot, his heart and his frame of mind when under pressure. He proved me wrong on all accounts. I think certain people need to GET OVER IT!

Khan won the fight fair and square you cannot take that away from him.

As I said, never been too much of a Khan fan, always impressed by his natural talent but had my doubts.

Bradley on the other hand is full of sh*t and will not be going anywhere near Khan that’s a FACT.

  • Az says:

    @ Michael129

Only someone that thinks the come foward fighters always wins thinks that

    Match stats:

Khan landed 273 of 603 punches (45 percent), according to CompuBox statistics while Maidana landed 156 of 767 shots thrown (20 percent)

Madaina landed 122 out of 496 power punches

Khan landed 190 out of 360 power punches

    The fight was clearly Khan’s

  • Az says:

Bradley and Alexander will be no problem for Khan

Just hear what Manny Pacquio has to say about Khan

  • Michael129 says:

@ insider— Maidana got rounds 3,6,7,10,11,12.. The margin was close my friend.

  • tufftalk says:

dumb f*cks on this site…maidana is to slow for the brothers…khan hits loke a b*tch…looks like a pipe dream

  • Insider says:

Khan won the fight and by a wider margin than what the judges had he only lost 3 rounds and thats because he stayed smart he took the rounds and then kept himself up

  • Insider says:

Why did he say that? is it cos he dont want to fight the real winner of that fight?

  • Run all day says:

Khan is just an “ok” fighter. He’s a runner. Not a brawler. Only reason people hate on Khan is that he says more than he does. I wanted Maidana to win the fight, sure, but Khan won, fair and square. Next thing for Khan to prove is that he could beat Timothy Bradley. Is that going to happen? I guarantee it won’t. For all the Khan fans out there, let’s see what happens when a skilled/experienced/top-class fighter like Bradley gets in the ring with Khan.

  • milo says:

  • Khan's daddy says:

Thanks Mr.Cortez…thank you veddy much for pulling argentine rottweiller off my helpless son..we owe it all to you..our victory is your victory too…hare hare….rama rama…….wooly booly……

  • A True Boxing Fan says:

I think bradley’s just hating, and it kills him to see someone like khan do what he was doing to maidana. Yea grant it he was in a bad spot the last couple rounds of the fight, and maybe he punched his self out. But either way you look at it there’s no way maidiana could have won. You can’t give someone a fight because he looked good for maybe 3 rounds. Bradley know’s khan is the person to fear in that division, and he’s just putting on a front because he doesn’t like him. But even before this fight I felt Khan was gonna be the one to clear out the division, and I hate team roach, so naturally I would much rather see him lose. But the end of the day you deny skills. Honestly I think Khan has a better chance against mayweather then pacquaio does. The way khan came out throwing those combonations, and he has good form, and defense. I think truly Roach knows that and he would much rather mayweather fight khan. I don’t know if I could say he could beat floyd, because he’s one of the best fighters I’ve ever seen. But I think he would definitly have more of a chance then alot of people realistically. I would like to see khan fight maybe a stay busy bout with zab judah, then the bradley/alexander winner, then maybe a andre berto and then Floyd. I think he has alot of potential but he needs to fight some good boxers before he fights floyd. But he’s definitly gonna be the next true star, besides Andre ward. I think Roach actually has a fighter with real skills now.

before this brilliant fight people were saying amir khan hasnt got no chin but after the fight people say he has got chin. bye the way amir khan outboxed maidana and outpaced maidana so whoever is next owta timothy bradley or devon alexander amir khan will easily beat them.

For the record I think Brook & PBF beat Khan

  • UR WORST ENEMY says:

Exactly my sentiments good to a top caliber boxer such as bradley see’s it the same way as me. After I saw the fight again. I thought it was a Draw. because Maidana came on very strong won last 3 rds. rd 10 was 10-8 rd. but on ther other side had Khan landed that body punch 30 seconds earlier he may or not have ended it in 1st rd, either way for maidan to come back after that proves he is very tough and a top caliber fighter. If Maidan wants a rematch great if not then move on

  • don@london says:

Useless writer at best and isn’t even man enough to leave your comments there for all to see when you raise a completely valid point. What a sad little man!

  • Dale says:

Khan won the fight! How can any of you get on here and say otherwise? Go back and count how many rounds Maidana actually won. Just because Maidana excited some by connecting in a couple of round dont give him the fight.

  • Chris R says:

In fact, yes….the referee Cortez did spoil the fight, as neither man was allowed to fight on the inside…this obviously favoured Khan. However, this is how Cortez is and has been for a long time….I remember watching Mayweather v Hatton a few years ago. Cortez favoured Mayweather in that fight and Hatton wasn’t allowed to fight at all on the inside (his main strength). That is just how this ref views how the sport should be.

Would be interesting if we could see both these fights with a ref that allows them to fight up close and doesn’t favour the “hit and move” boxer.

  • kahn is very good, just not great yet says:

Kahn has a real test coming…if he fights Bradley, he will be outquicked and outworked, if he fights Alexander, he will be outslicked, and outboxed, Alexander’s power is vastly under rated, remember he knocked out the never been knocked out Urango, with an uppercut, while moving away….Look for kahn to avoid the winner of Bradley/Alexander…k

  • Chris R says:

Of course Bradley says Maidana should have got the decision. Why wouldn’t he? Bradley wants to fight Maidana NOT Khan in the unoffical “final of the Light Welterweights”. Think Bradley should concerntrate on Alexander before stirring the pot for the following fight.

Khan beats Bradley and Alexander….that is why they’d rather face Maidana.

  • Pauli says:

I think you should give credit to Amir Khan and Maidana for putting up a cracking match, Khan won 7 rounds to 5 i think. I think he can only get better, its good to see he can take hit like he did and stay standing! I think you will see an even better Khan in the future!

  • johndoe says:

Good fight, could have gone either way. What is really noteworthy though is that Freddie Roach again has not been able to teach his fighter ANY defense. The Roach Coach defense: take the punches to your face! Khan has the natural abilities to be one of the best, but unless somebody teaches him some defense, he will never be a truly elite fighter. And Roach has proven over and over again, that the only defense he teaches is to take leather to the face and not to block, duck, or dodge.

    haha

  • Karlos says:

Everyone talks how Khan took a beating or he sort of got KO`d ( Michael 129 ) << Good intelligent comment.
How come no one mentions the fact that maidana was on the floor in the 1st round and the only reason it made it to the 2nd round was because the bell saved him.
Lets face it Khan could of made that alot easier if he had stuck to his boxing but then it wouldn`t of been half as entertaining, credit where credit is due, Khan beat a top class fighter in Maidana and deserves the applause for that and the fact that finally the british fans paid £15 quid and got their moneys worth.

  • Matt says:

  • FromBuenosAires says:

I think Khan won the fight by a narrow margin, I would say by 1 point. However, there are some people saying it was a draw or even that Maidana won. There is undoubtedly room for opinion. I would say that if Maidana would have been Khan, and Khan would have been Maidana, the fact that “Khan” was the constant aggresor would have help him to get points from the judges.

  • Michael129 says:

OK- just for the sake of argument- for all the people that are like “you said Khan was going to get KO’d, and he wasn’t—see I told you so…” Actually, Khan kinda was Ko’d and was saved by the referee. Roach clearly went on record saying that he was ready to throw in the towel… Also the counter argument to those that said that Khan was NOT going to get KO’d also argued that hes boxing was so good that he was never going to get hit… guess what, the right landed on him flush since round one, and by round 4 you could see Khan never go to the body again as he knows that right will land flush on his head. Maidana got rounds 3,6,7,10,11,12- considering that Khan was GIVING a point, and considering that he got his ass beat.. Yeah Maidana won or at the very least a draw.

  • Darren says:

Khan won the last round on the judges cards. Khan made a fight of it and could have won every round and stayed well away from the predictable Madaina………..So what if he got clipped a few times, he did’nt go down and I give Khan respect for making it a fight worth watching. Khan should go back to jab and move and beat over rated fighters like Madiana and even Bradley. I bet you predicted Khan losing the fight?

  • UK BRAWLER says:

Khan took punches easily from the ‘hardest’ puncher in the division according to all the doubters this past weekend. He not only out boxed him for 8 rounds, but he dropped him too.

  • The Northfleet Mauler says:

You said Khan would be ko’ed because he has a poor chin and he was hit with all of maidinas power and still stayed on his feet. Didn’t read you saying you were wrong.

You picked out one guy who thought MM won what about most other boxing experts who thought the fight was won by Khan?

He badly faded after nearly getting ko’ed, but he showed true grit staying in there and his lead was such that he could afford to do so.

You fail to mention that MM was the one who went down and was behind after 9 rds 7-2.

  • MBA says:

    To Bradley:
If you won 7 of the first 9 rounds and lost the last 3, would you be happy if the judges will award the fight to your opponent? It was close, yes and I even felt the referee should have deducted Khan a point for excessive holding, but then, it is what it is, Khan wins by a point to me..With 10-8 round 1 for Khan and 10-8 round 10 for Maidana.

First of all I think (like many people) Joe Cortez helped Khan to withstand Maidana’s furry. I watched the fight three times and many of Amir punches landed at Maidan’s guard or hit the air but he is fast at first impresion is he lands everything. I still don’t understand why Cortez took the point from Maidana even though not Amir nor the judge himself got hit with elbow. Why didin’t he take a point from Amir for constant holding of Maidana’s hand?
But what’s the most important I think after the beating Amir got He would never be the same fighter again.

  • Pied piper says:

Bradley is a joke put him in the ring with Kahn or maidana and I could guarentee he wouldn’t last 12. Rounds fact!!

  • dp says:

    @favalessa

“he really look good for the future”

The future is Pacman and Floyd, and no way Maidana’s name is being linked with these top two guys. Khan has more future, two or three fights then Floyd will fight him.

Maidana? Pffftt..this guy needs to eat a ton of parilla so he can improve his footwork. But I bet if he focus on his footwork hes going to lose his punching power coz he’s clearly drawing his power from his foot placement. Thats a habit hard to change.

  • Anon says:

Let’s hold judgement until the feather fisted Bradley & Alexander fight Maidana

  • dp says:

    @ favalessa

It means 2 points less, your weak, and beaten by a better man (at least on that round).

The pride argentine KO artist cannot floor Khan, yes Khan was caught by his vicious ko punches, but please accept it Khan was way smarter and on his game that night. Its more to me like Maidana was exposed rather than Khan.

Angry dog? It’s more like desperate crazy rabid dog drooling. He knew he is losing. But what can a flat footed guy do? Maybe on rematch he can do better? Until then Khan is way better than him.

  • favalessa says:

dp: maidana it’s only 27 years old , he did not lose the fight vs tomato khan and he really look good for the future , amir khan become a paper champion after the beating. you will see maidana avoided and khan be lured by the fox of boxing on looking for a easy but well paid night.prescoth already invite the young paper champion . the truth it’s on roach mind 。 next fight for tomato khan will be vs another tomato can, not a champion. cortez need to get fired .

  • favalessa says:

x dp : also marquez was flored vs katsidis , what does that means??? khan was good for 4 round than maidana emerge ad massacre him and cortez was pulling away khan from the angry dog!!! these is wath i saw. tomato khan get stuggered and he was on he’s way out twice when cortez give him time

  • Bod says:

Why do i even come to this website?!?
Because newsnow keeps referring me to it, and i think It’s completly baist and stupid, I’ll try to avoid it in the future

  • Yawn, it's Scott says:

Lol, thanks for the laughs Scott.

  • dp says:

Who got knockdown on the first round? Oh that rib hurts, thanks for the bell!

Maidana was totally out-boxed by the younger, smarter, sleek Khan. Truth hurts you know, Maidana was clearly defeated he don’t know what to do he elbow the referee. lol

Defeated by a 24 yr old? I understand the pride of the Maidana fans. Sorry the better man won.

  • BritBolt says:

Well if Bradley says it it must be true then Scotty boy! Different day, same Gilfoid rubbish.
