Image: Andre Ward is going to finish off Arthur AbrahamBy Scott Gilfoid: The class of the Super Six tournament WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-1, 13 KO’s) is going to show no mercy in finishing off a badly beaten and discouraged Arthur Abraham (31-2, 25 KO’s) in their semi-finals Super Six tournament bout. I don’t even see this as being a competitive fight, as Ward is just too too talented and is levels above the short, slow and punch limited Abraham. The defeat will send Abraham packing his backs, eliminating him from the Super Six tournament.

Ward has looked absolutely brilliant in slicing through his first two Super Six tournament opponents like they were butter. Ward started off the tourney totally dominating Mikkel Kessler and beating him by an 11th round technical decision in a fight that Kessler was never able to compete in. The contrast between the dominating performance that Ward put in with Kessler and the way that Kessler defeated Carl Froch was startling. It showed how much better Ward is compared to some of the other Super Six competition.

Abraham was beaten in his last fight by Froch, and before that by Andre Dirrell. It was Dirrell that seemed to get the ball rolling downhill for Abraham when he totally dominated Abraham for 10 rounds until Abraham blew it in the 11th round when he fouled Dirrell after he had slipped on the canvas. Abraham was later defeated by Froch, but it looked nothing like the same fighter that Dirrell had schooled. Abraham just wasn’t there mentally when he fought Froch, and did charge him aggressively the way he needed to in order to get the win. Froch was free to do whatever he pleased and was able to beat Abraham almost by default.

Now it’s Ward’s turn to beat up on Abraham. However, in this case he’s going to put on the coupe de grace and finish Abraham off and send him out of the tournament in defeat. It’s going to be one of those humiliating losses where Abraham won’t win a round and just gets swatted around for 12 rounds without stop. If his corner person is smart, they’ll pull the plug on the fight before Abraham gets hurt. After all, we don’t Ward to wreck the guy permanently.
