Andre Berto Needs to Call out Juan Manuel Marquez

By Tommaso Nappo: Since not getting the fight with Manny Pacquiao, which he was a long shot at best. The next course of action from the Berto Camp should be to call out Marquez. While Marquez is apparently in negotiations for a bout with Erik Morales, it is not a done deal.
As far as Berto is concerned it would give him that “big name” on his resume that is currently missing. He would have an advantage as Marquez has fought at welterweight one time and looked poor. More importantly it would give him the experience of being in a “super fight” prior to a Pacquiao fight. He would at least then have some idea of what to expect although on a smaller scale then a fight with Pacquiao. The fight if it is marketed properly is basically an eliminator to see who fights Manny next. Resulting in a pretty good payday for both Marquez and Berto more so then any other fight out their for either of them this side of a fight with Pacquiao or Floyd.
For Berto this is the quickest way him to gain instant credibility with a victory over Marquez. People will over look the fact that Marquez can’t carry the weight nor power moving up. They have overlooked it obviously as Marquez was still the popular favorite to fight Manny at 147 even though he has not won a fight above 140. Lou Dibella needs to get on the horn, start a PR campaign anything to get Marquez in the ring next. If Marquez is serious about trying to beat Manny at 147 and not just showing up for a payday then he needs to test himself against a legitimate Welterweight prior to fighting Manny, Berto provides a perfect opportunity.

Marpedz won’t fight Berto for he is a coward. He won’t neither fight King Khan. Marpedz ducked so many already. Marpedz is no draw, he can’t sell tickets, can’t fill seats, yet he hogs more money than his worth. What an alligator. Even the age-defying drugs of Marpedz won’t do him any good at the higher weight classes.
Marquez is looking for his retirement check on fighting Pacquiao. Anyone that thinks he can beat Pacquiao at welterweight is just another fool like Marquez himself.

AGREED. Put Berto in with Marquez and the winner faces the winner of Pacquiao/Mosley.

@R.Martinez: I feel you on that one. Still want to see these two Pacquiao/Mayweather fight, but now they are saying not in 2011. Who knows maybe 2012, meanwhile other fighters need to beef up their resumes before they put it on the table to fight Pacquiao or Mayweather.

@R.Martinez: Dude it does not matter, people will always dog Pacquiao out. First, if he fights Marquez, people are going to say Marquez is old, fat and does not belong in the WW division, Mosley is old , but has a strong chance of hurting Pacquiao, Berto in the other hand has too small of a fan following. Mosley was Berto’s rise to fame, but that fight did not happen because of the Haite thing. They all want a shot at Pacquiao. In the WW ranking Mosley is number 4 and Berto is #3, but like I said Berto does not bring anything to the table. You know who is #1 and #2 is, guess who #5 is? Clottey and that is your top 5 right there. Mosley/Pacquiao is going to be a good fight I think.

@R.Martinez: Dude, you need to take a hard look at Berto’s record and tell me who in the list of names is a known fighter. Berto is not a big draw for a champion, maybe it’s because he has fought no names fighters. I recognize a couple names in his resume that is it.

Andre berto does not need to call out MARQUEZ . The only way ANDRE can get a fight with PACQUIAO is to get knock out or beaten up. We all know marquez doesnt fight as good in the bigger weight class. So a fight with berto is stupid! And if im right didnt manny weigh in at 144 lbs for his margarito fight. So why not pratice what you preach and give marquez a catch weight fight at 138? Its because there’s some risk invovled in doing that. Everyone is saying floyds hiding we all know he has legal touble thats why he isnt fighting. But if he was fighting it still wouldnt have been manny.

Marquez wouldn’t fight Khan at 140. Therefore he wouldn’t take the risk of fighting Berto at 147 especially when Berto is less of a ‘name’ than Khan and won’t offer the same payday.
Marquez is coming to the end of his career. It’s either Pacquiao or bust for him.

1.) Marquez –> needs to prove his competetiveness in the welterweight division to land a Mega-fight with Pac..
2.) Berto ——> needs to fight an elite fighter to land a mega-fight with Pac.
I guess both fighters(Marquez and Berto) dont have a scheduled fight yet.

I realize what anything above 140 is techinically a welterweight fight. Yet, Manny has insisted he won’t fight JMM BELOW 147. He couldn’t fight Cotto at 147 and can’t fight JMM below 147. And as for Margarito, really? That proved to Manny his limits? That was one of the easiest wins Pacquiao has ever had! And he’s had some easy ones. Than Pac should immediately vacate his 154 pound title if he acknowledges he cannot compete against fighters in that weight class with any talent. Marquez and Beristain are not stupid. They are not going to fight at 147. Marquez is a natural featherweight, Welterweight is too much for Marquez, he would give up too much of an advantage. Unless Marquez takes some growth hormone, I don’t see how he can fight at Welterweight effectively.
Andre Berto needs to fight el Perro Angulo, why isn’t anyone calling out Perro Angulo. If Berto wants to make a name, fight el Perro Angulo. I doubt it though, because he will get killed.

yeah dude, marquez hurt pacman but at lighter weight. marquez had only one thing proven at welter, and that he is a D- fighter. pac gave him a shot for the third time for 750,000 dollars but JMM turned it down by fighting chris john for a measly 30,000 dollars where JMM lost that fight. now marquez wants another shot at manny without proving first what he can do at welter and worse, he priced himself up. he beat katsidis but its nothing. katsidis was already knocked and beaten by a senior citizen casamayor. now it seems it was marquez who doesn’t want the fight. he keep on crying he wants another fight at pacquiao. when he says something, his actions mean another.

Johndoe – You do realize that the 147 and 140 are maximum weight limits for welterweight and jr welterweight respectfully. So if Manny is in excess of 140 it is a welterweight fight whether he weighs 141 or 147. He is comfortable at that weight feels strong, and the proof is in the results. The man fought Margarito and came to the realization that there is a limit to how high he can go how big an opponent he can fight Martinez has said he can’t go lower then 154 . I know the guys that don’t like him would be happy to see him in their with a Klitschko. This would be a very good fight, very competitive and exciting. Hopefully it happens but knowing boxing it won´t, keep hope alive!
Pac could not get above 144 pounds for a 150 pound fight. So why in the world would he fight at WW? Let him face Berto at WW or go to his natural weight class of 140 and fight the plethora of talent there! Manny is naturally a 14o pounder at best, so look how brave he is by fighting clottey and Margarito who are so much bigger! He has to pump 7000 calories a day into his body to get over 140 pounds! Than when you ask him to fight at 140, its no, no, no Manny’s a WW! He will only fight at WW!
