Roach wants Pacquiao-Marquez III at 147, without a catch weight

By Dan Ambrose: In the latest boxing news, trainer Freddie Roach likes the idea of Manny Pacquiao fighting Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time, albeit at the full 147 pounds of the welterweight division without a catch weight to help Marquez bridge the gap.
Given that Pacquiao has been able to use his huge popularity to get other fighters to agree to catch weight handicaps to help him in the past year, it seems a little off putting that the favor isn’t being returned to Marquez, who clearly doesn’t have the ability to put on weight as easily as Pacquiao for some reason.
While Pacquiao is able to put on pure muscle very quickly, Marquez’s results have been far less impressive. When he attempted to bulk up to 143 pounds last year to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr, Marquez was visibly fat and slow at that weight.
Without a catch weight for Marquez to fight Pacquiao, the Filipino fighter would have a tremendous advantage over Marquez. It’s not exactly sporting given how bad Marquez looks at 143, and you have to wonder whether Roach feels that his fighter Pacquiao really needs this advantage in order to beat Marquez.
Pacquiao could easily strip off some of the extra bulk that he’s put on recently by not drinking so many of Alex Ariza’s weight gaining milkshakes and meet Marquez at a weight closer to 135, say 140. That would be a lot fairer, I think. If not, it’s just going to be another one-sided win for Pacquiao over a fighter not at his right weight.
Roach reportedly really wants Pacquiao to fight Marquez in order to clear up the mess from their other two fights in the past. Marquez appeared to beat Pacquiao twice, but was given a 12 draw in the first fight and a lost a controversial 12 round split decision in the second to Pacquiao.
By having Marquez fight at the full 147, Roach’s fighter will likely win easily but what good is it if he can’t fight Marquez closer to his own weight. To me, that’s like raising the bar to a level where you know your fighter is going to win without any problems. I don’t see that as very sporting at all.

If Marquez want a piece of Pacman again. He should be the one chasing the champ as what he did to Mayweather. Pacman agreed to fight Margarito at 150 lbs even if He only weight less than 145 lbs at official weight in. It was a big disadvantages for Pacman as you all know how big is Margarito was. So why can’t Marquez do the same as what the Pacman did.

Guam boy, most people picked Oscar ot beat Pacquiao when they fought. When they fought, Oscar was 35 – younger than a 39 year old Shane who fought Mayweather. I hardly think Cotto was shot since he beat Clottey and many favorred Cotto to beat Manny — in fact Floyd’s father accused Manny of PEDs becuase he was impressed he beat Cotto who was bigger and supposedly stronger. Clottey was the third ranked fighter in the class when he fought Manny. You say Manny makes people fights with disadvantages how so? Cotto weighed in at 146 at the clottey fight, the same weight he weighed in with Manny. When Manny fought Clottey, CLottey was clearly much bigger. When Oscar fought Manny — Oscar clearly was longer, taller, had the longer reach, got the bigger cut in pay..had more experience and championships. started off at l35 i believe yes? 147 isnt new to Oscar..

Freddie Roach has major input into who Pacquiao fights, but that is not the only reason why Pacquiao made $20-$25M in his last fight while Marquez only made $1.4M. Now that Pacquiao has crossed over to the US mainstream despite fighting naturally bigger foreigners (Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito) in his last 4 fights, the smart move is to fight more American fighters in his next few fights to attract more casual American sports fans.
Freddie Roach is a joke. He knows that marquez would cause problems for pacquiao at even 144, so what does he do talk about making the fight at 147. if marquez could not easily weight at 147 then it isn’t somebody’s fault. Pacquiao is at best at 147 because he is a great fighter. If marquez want a big shot with pacquiao then he must challenge pacman where he is at his best weight so that there will be no excuses if ever he luckily beat pacman. Pacman already made statement with regards to his next opponent, “Anyone will do!” He had said before that he is just doing his job and that he will always be ready whoever promoter Bob Arum puts him in the ring with. the best fight for pacquaio might be against andre berto, at welterweight. berto might be a flawed fighter, but at least the fight would take place at a weight that is natural for both boxers. and the fact that berto is flawed means that roach will be more willing to make this fight happen.

Roach needs to stop playing mind games with Marquez. Marquez needs to concentrate on his game plan for his next bout and not let Roach get in his head like if they were really entertaining the idea. so, at 147lbs against cotto, it was fine for a catchweight because manny was so small, against a smaller fighter, suddenly there’s no need for a catchweight and 147 is fine. Either he can fight at 147, in which case it was tactical against cotto, or he can’t, in which case it’s tactical against JMM. One way or another you have to see this as somewhat dubious surely?

Why won’t you ask Marquez to fight Martinez @ 140 lbs or 156 lbs. Pacquiao is done pleasing everybody. It’s time for them to adjust their weight not Pacquiao. Pacquiao should stay at 147 lbs. If they want to fight him they move up or move down in weights. Pacquiao move UP to fight De la Hoya, move DOWN to fight Hatton, move UP again to fight Cotto and move UP another weight to fight Margarito. If they’re tough, can they do the same? If they can’t then they’re the one who’s a pu$$y. They need to start wearing their panties. lol

catchweight 142-143, remember pacquiao only managed 144 with trying to put weight on, he can easily make 142. Catchweights work both ways.

manny only does catch weights wen it suits him and roach and all mannys team know marquez cant be succesfull at 147 as we seen when he fought floyd he looks over weight
pac’s handlers are nothing but sh*t. In a way i can understand them tho, now that they can protect him they will. when he was tryin to make a name for himself he lost to morales the first time, then marquez wooped that ass twice, even the 2nd barrera fight he couldnt own barrera like he did the first time, and since barrera loves to fight dirty got taken some points away. They wanted to escape that and get big paydays against cherrypicked pastprime/weightdrained/bignames. I loved pac and how he competed back then. now a days tho, he’s a disgrace to boxing.

To be fair, Manny Pacquiao should come down to 143-140 lbs. to face Juan Manuel Marquez. The outcome of Marquez vs. Katsidis tonight, should determine Marquez’s chances of another possible showdown with Pacquiao, if he wins impressively.
If Marquez wants this fight really bad, and not just for a big payday, then he should face Pacquiao at 147 lbs., with no catchweight! The Pacquiao catchweight complainers on this site then shouldn’t have anything to complain about.

Read somewhere that Marquez has no problem fighting Pac at 147. This should be a good trilogy to prove once and for all who really won the first two fights and hopefully Marquez fans will be contented of outcome even if he loses. For I know he will end up like Morales! No mas!

If Marquez feels that he can beat Manny. He needs to show up on his best weight either 135 or 140. Look what Manny did to Margarito he did not try to bulk up to 150.
