Omar “Panterita” Figueroa, this week’s boxer con caracter!

NEW YORK (November 17, 2010) – Boxing fans viewing last Friday night’s TeleFutura broadcast of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” sat in the judge’s seat and cast their text votes naming hometown favorite Omar “Panterita” Figueroa as the fighter with the most character. Figueroa’s bout with Arturo Quintero ended in a draw after eight rounds, but 64 percent of fans watching at home and at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, considered Omar the fighter that showed the most bravery and character in the ring.

Launched by Tecate, cerveza con carácter, the “Cinturón Tecate,” award gives viewers the chance to recognize the strength, courage and determination of up-and-coming fighters featured on “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.” The boxer who receives the most text votes will be announced during the following week’s program. As part of the promotion, adult fans who participate will receive free ring tones and screen savers for their cell phones.

Thousands of votes have been received in support of the up-and-coming boxers featured on “Sólo Boxeo Tecate,” and below is a leaderboard summary of the boxer’s with the most character.

The next voting opportunity will be on November 19, when “Sólo Boxeo Tecate,” returns to Argentina with former Welterweight World Champion Carlos “Tata” Baldomir facing off against hard-hitting fellow Argentine Amilcar Funes. Fans at home will have the opportunity to vote and determine the boxer with the most character by texting their votes to 55333. To support Baldomir viewers must send code B-1 and to vote for Funes they should send B-2. Tune in on Friday, November 19, at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT (10:30 p.m. CT) on TeleFutura.
